Tool Time Tuesday: Making Money with the xTool D1 Pro 20w Laser Engraver

Ойын-сауық

Today I’m going to walk you through my favorite thing to make on the xTool D1 Pro. I love these projects and they are a great selling item for gift shops and craft shows, etc.
I used solid kiln-dried walnut for this piece but you can use birch or bamboo plywood as shown in the birch trees lantern, or walnut or cherry for a more elegant look. I used cheap colored poly school folders on the birch trees and vellum for the leaves. Here are affiliate links for both:

Hi glad to see you’re still getting stuck in, and producing great work, letting the machinery do the bulk of the work ( boxing clever ) 👍🐝🌞

Wow Lisa, you have everything going on here ... boxes.py, shellac, DIY wood, box joints, tea lights, DIY patterns, and of course, that great engraver/cutter ! Thanks for sharing. Take care. -Mike p.s. tip(s) from my RC balsa plane building days - assemble all parts and use thin CA along the joints as it'll wick in; and maybe try self adhesive film used to 'skin' the plane - there's ultra light weights and fantastic colors available.

Thanks for the tips Mike! Surgery was about a week and a half ago and I'm already over the sling and the restrictions. One video edited, several more to do, but we're finally done with all the obligatory laser videos and can can back to wood turning!!!!! Super excited about that 👍

I wonder if you could make the joints for the box dovetails rather than box joints? Might be cool, if possible.

Hi John! I'm sure it's possible m, it would just take some trial and error to get the fit right 👍

@@LisaRamlow I was thinking about it later. The pins would need the laser to be at an angle, so I don't know how you'd do that. I assume the laser always points straight down. You'd have to put the work piece on a wedge or something to angle it. And then how would you align the work piece in a way that would cut the pins at the exact location? Or you'd just cut the pins manually, which stinks. Or maybe you get a CNC cutter to do that part? I love your content!

@@LisaRamlow How did that go. Still feeling any pain in your shoulder?

  • @LisaRamlow

I'm doing great. I didn't have a lot of pain before the surgery - problem was that the torn labrum was allowing the shoulder to sublax/dislocate. So if it don't come out of socket, it was mostly ok. But it got a little worse every time it dislocated so after 20 years of putting it off I decided I'd better get it fixed before it tore the rotator cuff or something equally bad. While the surgeon was working on the labrum she noticed a small tear in the rotator cuff so cleaned that up as well. The post-op pain was minimal and I have first post-op appointment next week but everything seems to be going really well. However I'm already over this damn sling and all the restrictions - having serious turning withdrawal but at least I have some turning videos to edit so I'll keep myself busy til I can get back in the shop 👍
