TOOL -PARABOL/ PARABOLA (REACTION VIDEO)

In this video I reacted to tool's Parabola.
Holy shit ! This video was a mind fuck. As usual, tool does their thing and delivers a well- written throughout masterpiece of music.

I love watching people react to this when they do it properly with Parabol first. That ethereal, metaphysical priming. centering. And I sit back relax, and wait for it to hit. They distill it. Decant it. Present it. And then you taste it. BOOM! Mindgasm. Everybody jumps.

Great reaction. As a huge Tool fan I can say all their music is left for interpretation. Their music is to be used as a tool (hence the name) for whatever is going on in your life. Use it in whatever way you need to. Use it to grow, open up, release, etc. That being said, I interpret it as there being a collective unconscious where we are all there. Whether it's a state of mind, another dimension, whatever you believe in. I understand it as him saying our bodies feel pain but in this other reality, maybe the real reality, we don't feel pain, we're connected and bodies are just used to be on this Earth but we move on afterwards. I don't know. It's deep. I could go on for hours about what it could be or interpreted as. That's the beauty of Tool. You can always find new meanings. When my grandmother and father passed, I already had been listening to Tool for ages. Yet those same songs had new meaning all of sudden. I saw another side of the lyrics. Beautiful.

Do Stinkfist. That was the first 'hard' song I ever heard. My being 15 yrs old living in the middle of nowhere Kansas. Somehow I managed to pick up a Wichita radio station, T-95, at 2:30 am, +220 miles away, ridiculous antenna strung around the room. I recorded 2 hours of playtime on cassette, but hearing Tool for the first time, after only having access to gross pop music all my life... I will never forget that feeling. What a song to start on...

Tools music is completely unique to them. Nobody has been able to copy it although some have tried Chevelle/Earshot. They have an ability to induce thought and pull emotions out of the listener the way no other band has. Theirs so many influences to Tool. Metal, funk, Danny's drum style is heavily Jazz influenced. He's actually a Jazz drummer who happens to play in a rock band. It's a huge part of what makes them completely different than any other band

First reaction video of yours I watched. Nice thoughtful reaction. Not a whole lot more to add really, you summed it up well. It is certainly a relaying of spiritual revelations in regards to our souls being eternal.. we are pure consciousness, not our minds, our thoughts or our bodies. Certainly one of their most enlightening songs. To me, parabol feels like the calm, quiet, reflective state of being, where these truths are revealed.... and parabola is the "holy shit" revelation and expression of it. I also am profoundly effected by the lyric of "we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion" - as well as "recognize this as a holy gift, and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing" - I'm an artist and actually owe a great deal of credit to that one line and the impact it had on me to remind that life itself, and the chance to be alive and experience it is in fact a gift. It is a core message of my work (artbytripleb.com) Many of their songs have spiritual relevance, but two other recommendations which I feel have profound spiritual relevance are Lateralus and Reflection.

I think it’s just a friendly reminder of how much we seem to take for granted in our youth during this life. And this song reminds you of how we are all not alone in this, we all live and die together. And that’s what we are going through right now is very finite. For when we leave our bodies, this will be nothing but a faint memory.

5min 57sec into the two part song combined - the lyric “parable” is heard - “Twirling round with this familiar parable”. I believe the first part entitled “Parabol” is actually a homonym to “Parable”. I feel the first part is indeed a “Parable”, which is a story told or read that has a deep meaning or important life lesson that does not just jump right out and say what you should be learning from the story. A “Parabola” - lets skip the math; but, it has a starting point which moves in somewhat of an oval shape, infinitely. So I feel the human experience depicted in this master piece paints a musical picture of the duality of our existence - our mortal body and eternity. It’s beautiful.

parabola was also a quarterly magazine begun in the seventies about spirituality, myth, and tradition. "The parabola represents the epitome of a quest. It is the metaphorical journey to a particular point, and then back home, along a similar path perhaps, but in a different direction, after which the traveler is essentially, irrevocably changed." you definitely hit on the dualism between the self reflection of a parabolic mirror, and riding the cosmic mule of self reflection. keep up the good work!

Fun fact: Tool and this song in particular helped me overcome a lot of hardships in my life, the lyrics and the melody intertwined had a direct impact on my mind to go to that place of enlightenment and get out of that dark place. This song is very special to me #allthispainisanillusion 🖖🏻👁🌀

He also states how, we all feel pain, (I imagine he meant all sensory impressions too.) We all have this body that stops us from higher thought. We are not alone in feeling these things. So we can feel empathy, and as a single conscious mind. We all take this journey together as one.

If you haven't yet done a reaction on 46 and 2, you should. But first do a little study on the human genome, existentialism, and evolution of mind, body, and spirit in regards to reaching a higher plane of existence amd oneness with the universe... It's a lot to digest but the song becomes more of a mantra after you do and you'll find yourself reciting the lyrics when your faith in humanity is tested IMO

You can't prepare, just isn't possible, none of us were prepared, we just stumbled down the rabbit hole like Alice, just walking along and then "whooooaaaaaa"......."where does this lead to", "drink what?", ohhhhhh ," the bottle was filled with enlightenment,........

I have seen dozens of reaction videos of Tool or APC and they all really enjoy them. Either they just like it and say some crap about the song structure or instruments, or they try and sound introspective and look at the psychology of the lyrics. MJK does not put filler in his music, every sound and pause is perfectly inserted to bring a more visceral experience.

Tool have songs for all instruments. Drum songs (eg. Pneuma), bass songs (eg. The Pot), this is a guitar song.
