Adam is the one and only guitar player from Tool. The only person who was replaced was Paul D’Amore, who played on Undertow and recorded some of the music for Ænema, he left the band and Justin Chancellor took over and it’s been the four of them ever since. No person has ever played a guitar for Tool besides Adam Jones. 👍🏻

Which is a funny topic because there’s a rumor amongst Toolfans that Paul wanted to play guitar and so left Tool. Probably untrue because he went on to play bass with several bands as far as I know.

Tool express a lot of the emotions with the textures, many times they sound uncomfortable, annoying sounds, but they add suspense, emotion, Adam does that a lot, being an excellent sculptor and plastic artist in general, he transfers a lot of that to the way he plays the guitar, creating shapes, textures, brightness and chiaroscuro to his sound. A true genius of modern art, and possibly one of the most complete artists in the industry. A value of our time which must be valued and celebrated.

It is Justin fyi Paul D'Amour left after undertow to pursue his passion for guitar.. also Adam has been there since day 1 he brought Paul to play bass when they started... Danny was Maynards neighbour and only stuck with them cause he felt bad they couldnt find a drummer... Lil tool history for ya

The ending with the record skipping sounds would fade into the next track which is purely that sound. The track is called "Useful Idiot". On vinyl it was put as the last track on the side so that vinyl listeners would think that their record player was stuck.

The same people who told you Adam is Tool's second or third guitarist are probably the same people who tell you not to count during reactions 😆Anyway, you're right about Ænima being a bridge album, Dave. Maybe it was the addition of Justin, but whatever it was, for me, this is when Tool really started finding its uniquely creativite sound.

To me this is Tools best album. Aenema. I bought this album the day it came out in 1996, I’m now a 48-year-old man that still routinely listens to it probably once or twice a month. This is the album where Tool became Tool. Great review David.

40 here, bought it the week it came out. They became my favorite band, now sharing that position with Meshuggah since seeing them open for Tool in ‘02. I put Aenima, Lateralus, 10K and FI on pretty much the same level. And even worse, some of my favorite moments are on FI. 😆 I just couldn’t say enough for their catalogue, and I’m very into many other bands/artists as well. I’ve come to think a good chunk of Toolfans are _not_ into many other bands…………the most disappointing stuff to recently unfold is Tool’s apparent taking full advantage of the the “dynamic” ticket pricing. Concert tickets in general have gone up significantly but I’m currently of the opinion the band has considerable control of that.

@@Egoblivion I would pretty much rank the albums in that order as well. Aenima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days, Undertow, Fear Inoculum. And I absolutely adore Fear Inoculum, but there’s really only 6 real songs so it inevitably comes up last for me. Undertow they are a different band but it has a lot of nostalgia for me. I agree on the ticket pricing, especially for the fact that they play the same exact set list every single night with the exception of maybe changing up 1 song. Tool is probably my favorite band to listen to, but as far as seeing live bands I’ve seen Fugazi, Type O Negative, the Foo Fighters, and even the Beastie Boys put on better live shows. I’m not necessarily saying they sounded better, but it was a different show each night and you didn’t know which song was coming next. I had to pass up seeing Tool in 2019 because the tickets were just too much here in New York City. It would’ve been almost $500 for two tickets in the nose bleeds. So I hear what you’re saying. I saw them twice in like 96 and 03. They make truly remarkable music.

I'm not a lyrics guy, never have been. Lyrics go right over my head. It's not that I don't care about lyrics, I understand their importance. However I've never been able to grasp them and interpret them. That's why I stick to what I am good at, which is the musicality side of music. Chords, scales, modes, time signatures, key signatures, that's where I excel. I play to my strengths.
