Tony Parsons' Talk and Q&A at SAND13 Doorn, The Netherlands

www.scienceandnonduality.com
www.theopensecret.com
A unified reality in which there are "not two" or there is "nothing apart" surely confirms the illusory nature of separation. If separation is illusory, then any attempt to not be separate is rooted in a dualistic perspective. So the basic principle of any guidance which attempts to transform an illusory state of being separate into a state of at-oneness is based on the belief in a divided reality and cannot therefore claim to be non-dual.
However, as long as oneness appears as a seeker with personal needs there will also arise a personal response and guidance from others together with a description of their approach to satisfying those needs. Teachings apparently happen together with recommendations and processes to help the seeker change or be more open to a better experience. This personal guidance assumes the existence of free will, choice and the ability and need to pursue a progressive path leading to personal fulfillment.
The open secret perception is that what is ultimately longed for cannot be taught, given, attained or known.
The view here is that the sense of seeming separate is an illusory state which drives the apparent seeker to search for another illusory state called enlightenment. Any activity which supports this construct is apparently only reinforcing and perpetuating the same dualistic illusion and attempting to create personal experiences that can make the sense of separation more acceptable... for a while.
It is all only oneness playing a game of hide and seek. The open secret exposes what it sees as the myth of separation and personal enlightenment. It will also attempt to describe the nature of what is and isn't and point to the paradox of no thing simultaneously appearing to be everything. www.theopensecret.com/

Seeking doesnt just mean seeking for the sense of me to fall away ( enlightenment), its ALL the incessant thinking which happens all on its own. Usually based around fear, desire, guilt, blame, shame. And perhaps more subtley as ' I am doing really well with Presence practise'

Tony has spoken of this joy many times. He calls it childlike wonder, unconditional love, etc. You both got lost in translation, but that's what happens when you try to express it in words. You speak of the same thing. It's only the words that make it seem like you're opposing each other.

18:06 Listen good to this man. The self is never finished. It is all a process, a never ending story of life. There is no final goal, doesn't matter for no one or anyone. "I" or "not I", who cares? Self is unlimted, boundless, it has no ending and no beginning. Every ending is doubtful in itself. Great courage from him, thank you for speaking up. Sadly some people are so closed up in their concept.

  • @quantessenz

    @quantessenz

    10 ай бұрын

@@mozis88 It can be confused what no self means, it also doesn't mean attachment to nothingness. Self in this sense I wrote, I mean that what you are beyond words. It's unfindable, undefinedable and has no form, but you can never loose it also. Of course there is no self in it as in a sense of "I", but that self (call it what ever you want), is never finsihed, because it is everything. I refer to it as self, because it's already YOU and that is a neverending process. So be doubtful of who ever claims to have reached a final goal, doesn't matter if no one is talking about it or somebody. Consciousness, if you prefer as word, is a never ending process. That is the truth in the Yin Yang symbol. The truth is beyond existence and non-existence and even beyond. You can not loose your story, because you were never in it in the first place. And still, the story goes on. Of course the story of "no one here anymore" is part of that on going too, if you want so. What I find missleading is, that Tony not enough explains that this is a story too. Instead it seems he claims there would be no one be there anymore with a story and this leads to a apparent illusion of differences. "He loosed something and you can too". No, you can't, but in the end that would be doing too. Again: There has to be done NOTHING. It is already all complete as it is. As I said: "I" or "not I"? Who cares? Who is still there and cares about that crap? I don't know for sure.

joy is a concept, and the fact that you think it needs to be there or that it is relevant that joy is there means you are distracted by surface effects. To what is always here, there can be joy, hope, love, hate, fury, or anything else. It has no preference for joy. As soon as you say 'this is a state that has total joy' you are setting up a condition for a time when joy will be absent, and then there will be a 'someone' who has lost the 'joy' who is trying to find it again. It's like calling the sky blue. Yes the sky is blue, but get close enough to it's blueness and it will not be blue. At a certain point it will turn black, into the pure emptiness of space. The sky is only blue from a certain point of view. There is joy from a certain point of view. But the absolute is not inherently joyful. It may display joy, but it is not joy at all.

Not to add fire to the dialogue but to clarify... Tony has been given a specific, quite short, time for his presentation and people asking questions are asked to be brief and not to try stealing the spotlight... As organizers we support short question getting to the point... again, this is only a technical remark to help understand the context in which the conversation has been presented with no intention to get involved in this dialogue... :-)

Interesting that Igor Kuvayev felt the need to speak out to Tony during his limited time of Q&A. It seemed as if Igor simply wanted make a public point that Tony is not as enlightened as he is and is "doing it wrong". How's that for enlightened folks....:-) Tony was exactly right in pointing out, "what's your problem w/everything having to be experienced as joy" (paraphrasing). The whole thing was weird but kinda cool to see at the same time. I guess hecklers happen as well...;-)

Tony is great. He doesn't say any unnecessary crap and is straight to the point. What an 'enemy ' to a person's ego centre! Mind wants entertainment, so does ego idea although we are not the mind and e billions believe they are their mind. What a blessing is Non - Duality teaching! What a relief to know that we are already That but it got covered by concepts of separation, individuality, when our parents called us by our name. Enlightenment is a concept also as it has to be achieved in the future. Past, future or time don't exist so can enlightenment that happens to someone in the future exist? Again, nothing wrong with people who love their spiritual Path. As long as 'journey to enlightenment' is enjoyable it is still OK. Advaita is great for people who are desperately looking for help, suffer psychologically and where psychologists cannot help. They can patch it up a little but it is not a permanent solution. One only has to recognize their True nature and reduce depression and anxiety attacks - the illnesses of the modern world. Advaita is a shortcut to it. There is no way but it has to be expressed by using concept called words - yet every word is incorrect as soon as we say something. We breathe the air, our cells are getting replaced, we don't know our next thought - how can we be a decision maker?! Everything is just happening - hearing, seeing, touching, smelling. No - one does it. Exactly same as in the nature where there is no resistance. People resist as they have capacity of reasoning same as birds having capacity of flying or dog has a great capacity of smelling or hearing. But the sun doesn't call itself 'sun' or it doesn't claim that it is 'shining'.

Most commenters here have a very idealistic idea of liberation. A teacher can't get mad, a teacher can't get irritated. KZread is the source of a lot of the information they aquire. Over the years, to note a few examples, there was a great woman sufi teacher, with lovely youtube videos. There was a story about her, in which she totally got extremely angry at a disciple and an audience member was judgemental of her anger. Mooji also recalls, the first time he gave a talk, it was rehearsed around an idea, he finished it quickly and said felt awkward and embarrassed and from since then decided to not plan the talks. Ramana Maharshi, in one of his books, there was a recalling of him feeling a great sense of embarrassment because he was served more than someone he was sitting with during dinner. And another story in which the followers of a guru were not told about a heart attack he had as that would disrupt their image of him as a perfect divine being. And this is besides gurus falling out with followers, audience members etc. If anyone researches any great guru in depth, they will see examples of emotion and mistreatment from time to time. I don't mean to judge, just to hope that if someone reads this, it will help them realise enlightenment isn't a 2 dimensional state in which you can never be irritated or angry.

Tony is great if you want an intellectual understanding of 'there is no one'. With this you can be superior to seekers, superior to Ramana, Nisaragdatta and all previous teachers. With this non-dual sword you can cut off every argument with 'who is saying that?'. With this understanding you can continue to be selfish and self obsessed because you know that really there is no one. If you were a psychopath before the energetic shift you can be one after too because there is no psychopath.

It's not hopeless if you are a seeker, I don't think there's "nothing you can do". The mistake is we find ourselves looking for answers in the future or in special experiences. Then we realize there is something much more profound and interesting that is present prior to all that. This marks a profound shift of attitude, a movement away from time and becoming to a consideration of something ever-present and beyond doubt, utterly untouched by time and thought.

The message is simple. It isn’t about you ! It isn’t about me/us! Life , the world and everything in it isn’t about you or for you . But yet we try our best to make it about us. We go to the ends of the world to try and make it about us. I didn’t see this at first until now today. It took 3 days to get this message. The first day I caught a glimpse of it. The second day, I started to get angry and annoyed at the speaker because I felt he was just rambling nonsense, double-talk and gibberish. The 3rd day, I pull this up , listen for a few minutes and finally it hit me ! The words “ it isn’t about you/me!” hit me like a ton of bricks . Let that thing (the me) die! It’s glorious! Totally liberating even though there’s no one being liberated!! (It’s sounds like double talk doesn’t it? LOL )

If you don't want to listen to what is being expressed here, you are more than welcomed to try a different New Age doctrine and see how that works for you. Then come back and tell us of your amazing discovery. I'm sure we would all want to be enlightened by someone who "really" knows what they are talking about.

I don't think it's especially unreasonable that Parsons was aware that there were other people there who wanted a chance to ask questions too. Rather than watch 1 audience member spend a third of the alotted time trying to articulate a question. It's not fair to the others. It's a matter of basic consideration for others. Tony dismisses God and also what he calls the modern word for God---Consciousness-- BUT he often refers to BEING........as I understand it, BEING (Absolute Being or the Absolute intelligence etc) is another word for God ......he seems confused..... he is referring to a BEING , isn't that dualistic? now i'm confused. ---Confucius him say ,engage brain before opening mouth, when talking about Advaita Vedanta. --Non duality-- which Tony also dismisses....... by the way he says "this is all there is" many times.......does that include BEING? or is BEING ALL there is?......and things are, but they are not...... I like Tony Parsons but I'm not so sure about his teaching ,which he says is not a teaching ,now I'm really confused, what's he doing then, trying to give us all the screaming abdabs ?

Those who love his message are kidding themselves if they don't think it's not just another belief / idea. I care about things that actually transform people's lives.
