My dad passed away when I was 1, so I would give everything in the world to have memories of him. From what I've heard from the family, and what I saw from pictures, he was a cool guy.
1:56 "The greater good has rarely outweighed my own self-interest." For the first half of Endgame, this was Tony. But he came to accept that he needed to sacrifice his own life and the life he built with his family in order to undo Thanos's work for the greater good.

I’ve always been confused by this line. Is Howard saying that he is incredibly incredibly selfish? Is he proud of that statement? @TasteTheRambo

@@aaronschwartz6289yes, he's saying that he's self-serving. And he's saying that he's worried that, if he had a son, his son would turn out exactly like him. Dude probably decided to forgive Howard cuz while that dude may appear as cruel and apathetic to him, he too was busy keeping the world safe by running SHIELD. He also might've figured, "man, I got my second chance, tis time for everyone else to finally get theirs" and thus chose to do his snap even when he had to kinda abandon his daughter, kinda like how Howard abandoned him to keep running SHIELD.

I once held on to the theory that the J.A.R.V.I.S. AI was seeded with memory engrams copied from Jarvis very much in the same way Zola was transferred into a computer in The Winter Soldier. JARVIS would be the improved, non-evil result of that effort.

@MargoB

So if you can at all, thank your dad, for any good thing you can think of. Sure, they're none of them perfect. But most dads love their kids and are probably trying their best to be good dads. And in any case, love given is never a waste. Never.
As heartwarming as this scene is, it also explains a lot about how Howard tried to raise Tony. He was fully aware of his own failings as a person and had hoped for a baby girl in the hopes that his kid would be less likely to turn out like him. He was wildly nervous about parenthood and pretty much winged it; it didn't help that he had a lousy father growing up and didn't have a positive example to follow. God I love these 4 minutes.
Every time I see the end of this scene, I tear up a little remembering my dad who died in 2018 of cancer. I miss him every day.

so true. God knows how many sons wish they could've heard something like this. I mean Tony's character represents that exactly, grew up never thinking his dad loved or cared for him, but over time, especially with Iron Man 2, he realised differently. But most of us aren't that lucky, and many of us never hear their dad express their feelings or pride, and even when they do it comes far too late or far too little. As someone who grew up with an abusive dad, this storyline definitely hits hard.

All men, up until a certain point of their lives understate their relationships with their fathers, which is ironic, because when they become fathers, they still clash with their own sons, even after experiencing these moments of clarity with their own fathers. This reminds me so much of my father and myself. I am very lucky that I still have him and he's seemingly healthy as an ox for his age, but good god did we have wars when I was growing up. Life has so many ways of softening your heart and showing you perspectives. Through the past year and a half we've dealt with my mother's stroke and the death of my brother. And its so strange that it took these two life events to make us closer. While I'm approaching 40, for the first time in our lives, my father and I see each other for what we never say in each other: Just two guys trying to figure things out in the world. I had never considered that my father was once a young guy just working, figuring shit out, looking for women, smoking with his friends, laughing at shit he shouldn't be laughing at. Just... a guy. And somewhere through his experience in fatherhood, he never considered the same about me. My brother/his son's death really took he and I to a different place. It'll always be the most tragic thing in the world that this is what it took. But history is history and something had to happen.

I agree. I was lucky to have a great dad. I didn't and still don't agree with every decision of his, but he has always had my best interests in mind, and I respect him greatly. I'm very thankful for my dad.
I’m glad Tony got to meet his father and speak to him “man to man”. I’ve often told my students that one of best parts of growing up is getting to know your parents as people, instead of just authority figures.

When Tony says “Thank you for everything…”, it hits hard, you can tell right there that his story is coming to an end. 😢

A rare gift. Tony got to do something most of us who've lost someone would give anything for, turn the clock back however how briefly and speak to them again. In the same situation, I just couldn't lie to my dad even though he wouldn't recognize me as it'd be before I was born. Miss him every day.
This movie was very amazing and at same point quiet emotional too....because you see The Avengers meeting the one they love so much like.. 1- Captain America met Peggy 2- Tony met his father howard stark 3- Thor met his mother frigga 4- Star lord met gamora (That thing is diffrent that she didn't give a shit) 5- Clint got to see his family after 5 years and speacial mention... 6- Cassy the daughter of scott lang got to see his father after 5 years. ❤️❤️❤️

I never knew that Tony's father expected a lot from Tony. But the way Tony talked with his father in this movie, just brings some heart. Tony really said a lot of things when he was a man than a kid. I think life works that way.
Travelling in the past, having a pep talk with your younger father, must be an emotional experience for Tony. Fathers love really knows no boundaries. And I really shed tears with this heart wrenching scene. Happy Father's Day. 👍

Scene really hits my gut as my Pops passed away and it caught me off guard because my dad was a strong dude who put in 20 years in the oilfield. He also had a drug habit that took him at the young age of 47. We didn’t really end on good terms as I didn’t approve his drug use, if I had just one day with the man I’d just sit and get to know him. That’s one thing I regret not really knowing my pops: his ambitions, his dreams. And at the end of the day give him a hug, handshake and a kiss on the cheek and thank him for working his ass off for me. He may not have been perfect but he was a good dude at heart. Miss you much Pops.

@@ApplePie-hv8lh I think the TVA reset this timeline where Tony meets his dad, so from Howard's perspective, they never met. Only later on, after Sylvie kills the time keeper, is Steve able to live a life with Peggy in a different timeline. In the first episode of Loki, there is a scene where we can see a Peggy look-alike girl being brought to the TVA. So, when Steve went after Peggy, he created a Nexus event, and a new Peggy that took different decisions... therefore the TVA had to arrest her and delete the timeline. But soon after, once with the freeing of time, Steve was able to be with Peggy. But I don't think that it did anything for Tony's meeting with his dad.

There's something about how genes make people look and act. Turned out he knows my dad and his brothers and it was easy for him to guess who I am by my behaviour.

I've recently been faced with my father's mortality. He's only 54, but he has been such an enormous part of my life. This scene was fantastic, so happy for Tony to be able to spend time with his Dad one last time
I love how for an extended amount of time this huge 200-300 million dollar superheroe movie had this very human scene with minimal effects... this interaction and wholesome music at minute 3 reminded me a lot of a series I watched growing up in the 90s Quantim Leap.

You guys noticed when Tony’s dad calls his assistant JARVIS!! Now that is the kind of detail that marvel puts in their movies.
@kazzityangel
2 жыл бұрын
Well that's kind of the point. In the comics, Jarvis was his loyal butler to Tony's father just like the movies and in the show "Agent Carter". As a little boy Tony was close to Jarvis, he was like an older father figure and that is why Tony eventually named his central computer system Jarvis. Tony did that as a way to remember someone he considered a guardian from childhood. You'll notice he smiled at him in this scene.
@thephoenix7090
2 жыл бұрын
yea jarvis was the stark family butler, jarvis took care of tony when he was a kid and tony was attached to him and that's why is AI is named jarvis, and that's why he smiled at jarvis right in this scene, acknowledging him as his butler and guardian
3:26 Jarvis 😮
Oh gosh, Tony shows his emotions the most in Endgame, like we have seen him show that before as well, but this was like him telling the world, I have a emotional point as well. From Morgan, Pepper, Steve, Peter, then his Dad. We saw a lot of his emotions depth
0:23 Tony even fears his dad after his death!
It was the second most emotional scene for me from this movie. Being a daughter I always felt close to my father. There are many things which were not said here. But all the meaning came out in the least what was said.
The look Tony gives his dad at 1:10 is the exact same look I'd give my dad -- who died when I was 21 -- if I could go back to 1958, which was a year before I came into the world.
Imagine going back in time and meeting your dad when he’s younger than you are, I’d be “a little green around the gills” too 😂
Usually i never feel that emotional during scenes like this, but on opening night this was the first of four times I shed some tears during this movie. It wasn’t a weeping and screaming type of crying, just a few tears and deep breaths
I haven't seen Iron Man 2 in years. When I finally recently rewatched it, the scene where he watches the film of his dad brought me back to this scene and it hit harder.
For those who have lost their dads or parents to death, this scene is just everything. Wish i could go back in time and get to connect with my Dad and Mom more. Wish I wasn't stupid. Wish i knew better.
"kids not even here yet , there's nothing I'd not do for him " ...taught Tony to sacrifice himself for his daughter
