Andrew, my condolences to you, your mother, sister, and grandmother on your grandfather’s passing. I saw your grandfather pitch eight times. He won seven of those games and he matched up with other HOF pitchers, Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton (3 times), and Ferguson Jenkins. He also beat Jack Billingham of the Reds in the 5th game of the NLCS in 1973 and Jerry Koosman and the Mets when he first returned to Shea in 1977. The only game your grandfather didn’t win he received a no-decision against the Reds in 1973. He left with the score tied 2-2. But when he left the game, your grandfather had pitched 12 innings. Put simply, your grandfather was the greatest right-handed pitcher since World War II. God bless you and your family with your grandfathers passing. He was loved by millions of people. I saw him pitch September 9th 1969. He pitched a complete game and even hit a double off the wall.

A great, great pitcher. Tremendous form, used legs exceptionally. Smart pitcher yes. A pitcher not a thrower even though he has overpowering stuff. I always think of him Jenkins [my team Cubs] Gibson, Carleton, Catfish Hunter, Jim Palmer.......they just come to mind. Tom terrific...absolutely!!!

He was my all time favorite player on the Mets, I cried when I heard the news of his passing ! I have many clippings from the news paper of the games he has pitched over the years, loved the man !!!!!
