I will never forget Seavers return to shea in 83, my big bro talking pitching with him outside shea and filling out cards for the V.A. with him at citi-field! God bless you Mr. Seaver. RIP❤.

Seaver said on MLB Network in 2010 that he actually said to Ted Simmons on the on-deck circle, “I don’t want to face you.” Simmons and Seaver were friends and Simmons had great success against Seaver.

George Hendrick made the last out. Six years later, Mario Soto was one strike away from a no hitter and again George Hendrick was the potential last batter. He smashed a home run. Reds won 2-1; Soto got the win on a one hitter.

If I remember correctly he lost three no hitters in the 9th while with the Mets. One on a broken bat single with two outs.

Seaver told Bob Costas in an MLB Network interview to watch his eyes during that moment. Because Seaver was actually gesturing towards Ted Simmons and reportedly said “I don’t want to face you.”

Seaver was a hero of us all. Watching this clip, I'm glad they've speeded up the game. It was like watching glue dry. He was no longer an overpowering pitcher like a decade earlier.
