Harvey Haddix pitched a perfect game for 12 innings against the Braves who had the best offense in the major leagues at the time. The heart of the order for Milwaukee Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and Joe Adcock had more than 1600 career home runs between them and they couldn't get a base runner for 12 innings despite the fact that the Braves bullpen was stealing signs. @@ottismymann It was the greatest game ever pitched. A 12 inning perfect game! In the 13th, Adcock hit a home run with two out and 2 on (by an error, then an intentional walk). But Aaron (on first base) thought the ball was caught, and ran off the field, causing Adcock to be called out when he passed up Aaron - 3 outs. The next day, the commissioner called Adcock's home run a ground rule double. This allowed the runner from second base to score and win the game.
@dgchristensen771
Жыл бұрын
The box score reads 12 2/3 because Adcock was the 2nd out. It went Matilla on by Hoak's error, Mathews sacrifices him to 2nd, they intentionally walk Aaron to set up the force and possible DP. Adcock homered, Aaron touched 2nd and left the field because Mantilla had scored. Adcock is called out for passing Aaron on the bases, somewhere between 2nd and 3rd. But think about that game, 4 times through the 1959 Braves lineup perfectly. Certainly more impressive than a lot of strkeouts while giving up hits and runs. BTW, the winning pitcher also threw a complete game, which reminds me of the 16 inning 1-0 game between Spahn and Marichal, that may also deserve this list.

Yes. Along with the 7 no-hitters, there was a 1972 early evening game against the Red Sox that he, himself will tell you was his best performance. 1 hit, 17 Ks, the first 9 outs were Ks (Yaz got a double) struck out the side on 9 pitches in the third. The game started at almost dusk, the hitters didn't stand a chance.
It's a tough list to make. I commend your efforts. Koufax is the most dominant of my lifetime and the bigger the stage the better he pitched.your list is very good, but each to their own.
Seems to be missing Bumgarner in the 2014 World Series

How about Armando Galarraga's perfect game with 28 straight outs?

Glavines' 1 hitter in game 6 in 1995. World Series clincher to me adds to that performance
You passed on the 12 inning no hitter by Harvey Haddix lost in the 13th inning. Also the 15 inning dual shut out between 42 year old Warren Spahn and Juan Marichal won in the 16th by a Mays home run. Both went the entire game and Spahn threw over 200 pitches and pitching every 4th game he was so tired he went 9-1 in his next 10 games with a combines 1.0 ERA.

No video footage of that game exists, unfortunately. Otherwise it likely would have been included.
HM to tyler matzek in game 6 of the 2021 NLCS was legendary. Came in with no outs bases loaded and struck out the side. He got the braves to the World Series and their eventual title.
Armando Galarraga isn't on here? I think there is only one 28 out PERFECT GAME in MLB history. Glarraga got his PERFECT GAME ruined by a bogus call, but forever cemented him in MLB folk lore! IT WAS A MORE PERFECT GAME THAN ANYONE ELSE!
I agree, more performances should have been included. I could have watched an hour of these types of videos and it still wouldn’t be enough.⚾️

With all due respect to Buehrle you can’t show highlights of his perfect game without showing Dewayne Wise’s catch in the 9th. MB pitched an amazing game but DW kept it intact.

was that his other no-hitter ?
Two pitchers in the same game. The 16 inning shoot out between Warren Spahn and Juan Marichal.
Dock Ellis' No-No on LSD is the best pitching performance ever. (in context)
You forgot Randy Johnson's PERFECT GAME against Atlanta. What's with that???
The Society of American Baseball Research out of Cooperstown ranks the Koufax/Hendley game in 1965 as the best pitched game ever. Yet not mentioned here?
How about Marichal/ Spahn? Harvey Haddix?

Spahn/Marichal has the title "Greatest game ever pitched" and doesn't even get an honorable mention?
The pressure of everyone on their feet in the 9th inning. No way the average pitcher can do this. This… this takes mastering an art and keeping composure even when 40,000 fans are screaming your name..
How did Tom Browning not make this list? His perfect game was only 102 pitches!
May I suggest Kenny Rogers performance for the Texas Rangers at home Arlington Texas I believe it was a perfect game because the last (perfectly good maybe wonderful stadium) had a 3ft by 4ft plaque on the interior concourse wall. Would be pretty surprised if it was just no hitter

Kenny Rogers' pitching gem in 1994 was, indeed, a Perfect Game.
Jack Morris 10 inning complete game to win game 7 of the 91 world series
Gotta say in recent memory it would be Kershaw's no hitter that was broken up by a Hanley Ramirez error. He has 14 or 15 strikeouts I think still crazy and I think one of the most ever for a no hitter or perfect game.
Madison Bumgarner 2014 World Series Game 7, Pedro Martinez 1999 ASG, Randy Johnson 20K game against Cincy
Notable mentions: Sid Fernandez's 7 straight K's in '86 WS; deGrom's 9 straight K's vs Marlins

Ryan pitched better games than that. August 1972 vs Boston. Played at twi-light. Shadows at the plate, still bright at the mound and the batters couldn't pick up the ball. He strikes the first 2 out, Yaz gets a double, strikes out the next guy. Then strikes out the side on 9 pitches and strikes out the side in the third. Ends up with a 1 hit, 17 strike out performance that to this day he considers it a very special game.

Randy Johnson's perfect game and 20 strike out game should be on here way before half of these. Fact!
These were excellent choices if you had to narrow the list down to just 10. Glad you recognized phenomenal performances that didn't need to be no-hitters to be special. Let's not be critical if some of your "favorites" were not included here. Everyone's "top 10" is going to be a little different.
You didn't show any of the 50 million dollar a year 5 and 6 inning pitchers that we have today. Why not ?
Son, what happened with the Galarraga's perfect game of 28 outs? No way
You forgot Cornelius "Extra Curly Stache" McKenzie's 1889 no-hitter against the New Amsterdam Bowery Boy's Athletic Club at Pittsburg's Coke Field Gentleman's Sporting Grounds. He pitched both games of the double header and struck out 18 batters in a row for the game 2 no-no. Of course we all remember he was famously diagnosed with TB before the start of the game but a stirring speech by Vice President Morton after he threw out the first pitch aroused the confident humours in ol' Curly to get out there and pitch. The afternoonified crowd created quite the benjo that evening.
I was at Clemens' first 20-strikeout game. Had a seat in the right field sky boxes.
Far as im concerned they left out the greatest pitching performance of all time that took place in the World Series over a 7 game span....Madison Bumgardner vs Royals....
I love Gibson's delivery.
May 1st 1920 Brooklyn Robbins 1 Boston Braves 1 after 26 innings, game called because of darkness, taking 3 hrs 50 minutes. Both pitchers that started pitched all 26 innings Brooklyn's Leon Cadore and Boston's Joe Oeschger. It remains the longest major league game all time and ended in a tie
Tom Seaver’s 19 strikeout (10 in a row) game, or his “imperfect game” against the Cubs in 69
Jim Bunning's perfect game on Father's Day, threw 90 pitches to 27 batters. Dave Righetti's no hitter on July 4. One walk, retired on a double play.
Buehrle faced the minimum 27 batters in his first no hitter. Walked Sammy Sosa and then proceeded to pick him off.
I was happy to see that Don Larsen's perfect game in the WS was included. Nowadays, if it didn't happen 2 minutes ago, it never happened.
King Felix's perfect game would've been a solid choice for this list
When he was at his prime nobody better than Pedro he was aaaawasome.
Doc was a master against a very good Cincinnati hitting team...they could mash. But that final play by Ruiz was stellar...saved the no hitter for Doc.
Unfortunately there is no video of the Spahn Marichal game. I dont even think audio. But from this video I'm going with Gibsons game 1 WS 17k game.
Damn.... no Hersheiser WS NO HITTER??? Deserves to be up there.
