Same was said about Steven Strasberg and Shohei Ohtani as well but one was forced to retire due to injuries and the other was forced out of the starting rotation altogether and is no more than a glorified DH.

@@arthurau9231 a "glorified DH" is a little harsh when he's been arguably the best hitter in baseball through the first quarter of the season. It'll be interesting to see if he can come back from a second TJ surgery and be at all effective, when the track record there isn't great, but at the same time Ohtani is also a 1 of 1 genuine freak athlete.

His 4 seam fastball has below average horizontal and vertical movement in MLB. It’s his release point and velocity that makes it effective. His splinker has above average movement and is probably his best pitch.

@@buddhastl7120 it makes sense.. rotational velocity can’t grab as much air to move one way or another if it’s going 4-6 miles an hour faster than your average starter. That little five percent increase means the ball is in the air a meaningfully shorter time. But you’re so right. That release is nasty.

He was their best hitter, batted around .350 with power, led the team in homers but came to LSU and focused strictly on pitching (*LSU had a couple of decent hitters a year ago lol) and somehow found his fastball running up to 102mph and was all everything last year on his way to a championship and the 1st overall selection in the draft followed by former LSU teamate Dylan Crews, the 2nd overall selection in the draft. The first time two players from the same team were drafted 1 and 2, it's probably fair to say that the 2023 LSU Tigers were a pretty good team! Lol 😂

Amazing how well he pitched even when not getting a lot of low strikes called.

Paul Skenes is the modern day Dwight Gooden. Dwight Gooden was the modern day Bob Gibson of his era. Stay tuned folks, this man is going to be impressive👌

Scary great. His command has improved very quickly from the prep work in the minors. Everyone will be begging for mercy if he is on point like this in every outing.

As a very fresh baseball follower I have now added Skenes to my checkup list next to Ohtani lmao. Happy doing more research and reading up on storylines outside those two though, been enjoyable.

He has the most visible action I’ve seen in a while, I mean his pitches move a foot to the left and right, AND throws triple digits.. insane.

He looks like a nasty pitcher, gonna be a very good one. I also expect him to have had 3-4 TJ surgeries by the time he's 30.

Y’all need to relax with the Tommy John talk. Skenes is 6’5” 250lbs. He touches 100 without putting himself under duress and he doesn’t throw a cutter. Those are two of the most contributing factors that lead to surgery. Over exertion and throwing pitches that are harder on the elbow than others
