Same was said about Steven Strasberg and Shohei Ohtani as well but one was forced to retire due to injuries and the other was forced out of the starting rotation altogether and is no more than a glorified DH.

@@arthurau9231 a "glorified DH" is a little harsh when he's been arguably the best hitter in baseball through the first quarter of the season. His 4 seam fastball has below average horizontal and vertical movement in MLB. It’s his release point and velocity that makes it effective. His splinker has above average movement and is probably his best pitch.
@kvanderlinde

@@buddhastl7120 it makes sense.. rotational velocity can’t grab as much air to move one way or another if it’s going 4-6 miles an hour faster than your average starter. It’s the control that is so impressive. He’s able to locate 100mph on the black consistently. I think that is the reason why his velocity is more impressive than guys like Chapman, who can throw 105 in his prime, but would live around the middle of the plate. Hoping this guys arm holds up and he is able to create the blueprint for high velo starters who can also have long careers.

It's poetic that he did it at Wringley field because it's very reminiscent of Kerry Woods' 20 K start. The hard fast ball with armside run, the slider, very similar in my eyes.
Dude, the pirates are almost 25 to 1 right now to win their division. Yes, they are 6.5 games back, but they have very good starting pitching. Skenes & Jones are a HELLUVA 1-2 punch. I mean, is it LIKELY that they'll win? No. But, it's hard to find 25-1's that even have a CHANCE.

This is gonna be fun watching him more!!
I really enjoyed watching him play last year at LSU, my hometown team and what some people may not know is that when he transferred from the Air Force Academy his heater was running up to 92-93mph and he also played catcher. He was their best hitter, batted around .350 with power, led the team in homers but came to LSU and focused strictly on pitching (*LSU had a couple of decent hitters a year ago lol) and somehow found his fastball running up to 102mph and was all everything last year on his way to a championship and the 1st overall selection in the draft followed by former LSU teamate Dylan Crews, the 2nd overall selection in the draft. The first time two players from the same team were drafted 1 and 2, it's probably fair to say that the 2023 LSU Tigers were a pretty good team! Lol 😂
Best fantasy pickup of my life thank god

Y’all need to relax with the Tommy John talk. Skenes is 6’5” 250lbs. He touches 100 without putting himself under duress and he doesn’t throw a cutter. Those are two of the most contributing factors that lead to surgery. Over exertion and throwing pitches that are harder on the elbow than others
