Within the first 5 minutes of the video, Jimmy was acting as if Blaine was going straight to the strange and unusual. Meanwhile, it was just a cool card trick. I'm trying to enjoy the trick, and Jimmy keeps freaking out, like as if he's 9 years old again and never knew David Blaine existed. Notice how The Roots were not freaking out? They're just trying to watch the trick.

Blaine is using a technique made popular by Mirin Dajo in the late 40s. Mirin could pass a sword through his torso. David Blaine is using the same technique, albeit the scar tissue developed for this trick is around his lips instead of his torso. there is really no pain. or danger. For the times he eats glass, he has shown in videos on his channel doctor checkups and it has clearly screwed up his molars. Blaine doesn't just do magic tricks. He's does legit stunts and endurance artist stuff as well. The spewing kerosene and water act he used to do killed the previous performer who used to do the act. He does take risks and sometimes damages his health.

all magicians are risking their health but in a controlled testing environment, long before it hits the stage. There are lots of things you have to do to your body to prepare, before you can even look at the techniques.

the research and training Blaine goes through is so intense, most people could not endure. He makes it look so natural though,

After watching hours of his videos doing street magic and even live in person at Times Square, I realized that the real beauty of this man is not whether what he does is real or magic; of course it’s real. It’s his ability to take advantage or tap into something you already know to be true based on experience. And when you’re in that state of mind, you are a lot more susceptible to get distracted, because thinking you know something for certain gives you a false sense of safety that completely blurs your senses.

Anyone remember when Blaine flew up into the stratosphere in the "Up"-like balloons? It's not magic, but it was an incredible feat of engineering and mental and physical perseverance. I really enjoyed that the most of all of Blaine's stunts.

At 07:01 he adds the cards while tapping on the table. They are palmed at that moment, and he executes it perfectly. After that he just has to get the number right, so he let's them choose between low numbers and makes up the calculation to match the amount he added.

all magicians have extremely good memory and hands skill. they can give whatever cards they like and they know exactly which cards you are currently holding. but David is a crazy magician, he is willing to bear great pain to perform his tricks.

In reality, he adds 3 cards @ 5:32 as he puts the small deck on top of the big deck, but they are already upside down, that's why he asks for the cards to be count turning them upside down and not on the table.
