Howard Stern did this three decades ago, with Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate, who was a hoarder who bought useless items. Conan O'Brien and Kimmel are longtime Howard Stern fans. Doing segments featuring lowly staffers isn't an original idea. Letterman was doing stuff with his staffers in the early 80s.

Matt Paxton is awesome! I've been a fan for years. My parents were Hoarders (or collectors) and their 5 properties were packed to the gills. After my step-father died we hauled 11 tons of metal and probably 6 times that to the dump. I also completely filled every charity consignment store for miles around with donations. I would deliberately put on the show when my Mom came to visit hoping that it would help.... but alas, she just did a better job of hiding stuff! She would even go through the garbage after I left to reclaim stuff. I finally just learned to put it all in my car trunk and drive off with it! God bless and God rest their souls. God Bless Matt Paxton for helping with this family affecting tragic mental illness.

Conan is definitely the best personality out of all of them. But that doesn't mean his show is the best. Sometimes the show depends on producers and money, which I believe Conan is lacking at. If they gave him the money and the guests these other shows are getting, he'd be the king without a doubt.

Conan ripped off Howard Stern. Stern was the first radio host to extensively use his mom on air, which Letterman copied (which Letterman said he copied). Howard Stern was the first to mock his staffer for being a hoarder, which he did with Gary Dell'Abate in 1991. These late-night talk show segments aren't original. They go way back, as Kimmel would admit.

Love this (and Conan's, too) , this guy is so funny. I think you should let him fill up his office with crazy stuff, and then take it away from him again! The funniest part is Gary fighting to keep his junk! I love it!!

One simple reason Conan's funnier is the fact this stuff is all set up, and with Conan is more like improv comedy...so you don't know what to expect, and this is basically a sketch

Honestly - his stuff is awesome and hilarious. Someone once told me the difference between a hoarder and a collector is the ability to edit. It does not matter what you gather, only that it can be edited and focused to form a collection. A hoarder just collects with out end nor with any focus.

This was such a good segment. Loved it!

I can relate to Gary totally. It's not that we are hoarders, we are collectors. We appreciate the uniqueness of each item and they are all interesting. But recently I also had to throw away some of them because I had to move out. I lost part of my soul too. Stay strong Gary!

I'd agree that he's a collector, and that the "hoarding" is seemingly not much of problem at the office (not sure about at home), however it is still also borderline low-intensity hoarding. Some of the stuff like the shoe measurement device, child separator, giant stuffed rabbi, or giant goose have very little value, and/or take up too much space compared to their value. That said, I would say that 95% of the stuff he has couldn't be considered junk, and instead is just cool or funny stuff that is just a bit too cluttered in the office.
