I feel you, but there’s nothing surprising about people being born in 2006, it just means they are 16. That feeling we get is because people around twenty years old are not so different from 30~35yo people. So we feel like « hey they look like me, but they’re born yesterday!? 😵‍💫 » Hence the dizziness.

I worked at a group home as a residential counselor that had 5 men with developmental disabilities. One of the men, considered nonverbal for the most part except in specific circumstances. As soon as he met a new person he'd ask for their birth date and with barely a pause would tell them facts about what day it was, how many Sundays there were before your next birthday, the weather on the day of your birth, several little and accurate other facts, those are the ones I remember the.most. No computer etc, just what was inside him. Everyone who checked up or knew these facts found him 100% accurate. It was uncanny especially considering he wasnt able to understand that stepping in front of a speeding truck wouldn't be advisable.

  • @Musicmonk84

This is my best guess for the trick. *cracks knuckles* 1. Dan writes down a prediction on the chalkboard - No he doesn't. He fakes it. The sound of chalk scraping is actually his cufflink. The board is still blank. The chalkboard is actually a type of tablet, maybe a kindle, with an overlay that he can write on. The screen is black underneath it. So he can write on it with real chalk and it will look like and work like a chalkboard, but the tablet beneath will also show an image through if he desires. And it can show through convincingly if it is similar to a kindle screen that has less glare properties. So the screen is prepared to display any number that Dan wishes. 2. Dan places the chalkboard in an envelope. - Yes 3. Dan asks Jimmy to randomly throw 4 balls into the audience. 4 random audience members catch the ball. - This is legit random unless Jimmy is in on it and throws it so convincingly to the exact right person who then fumbles it on to the guy beside her, who is eventually the guy he chose. The reaction seems so genuine when the ball fell in his lap, that I don't think it's faked. Amazing acting if it was faked. Also, plants in magic are so disappointing to me. It feels like a cop-out and I think many people might mirror that sentiment. Plants are lame. 4. Dan asks Jimmy to give the envelope to 1 of the 4 random people. He chooses the man in the center. - Again, I don't think this is staged. This is a legitimate choice. Dan takes note of the man in the center and... actually already knows his birth date! Okay sooo this is the hardest part to believe in. I'm not sure how else he would know that man's birth date, but I think he actually took time before the show to memorize the entire audience's birthdates. DON'T SCROLL AWAY LOL Ok, I know, I know this sounds crazy, but hear me out. If you've watched the one-man show called "In and Of Itself" you could see how it's possible for someone to have a brilliant photographic memory like this. Dan is also a HIGHLY paid magician who is paid handsomely to do amazing things, so it makes sense that he would put a day's effort into memorizing faces and birthdays for this one gig. Where did he get the birthdates? The audience may have been required to fill out forms to be allowed entry. Maybe scan their ID. Photos taken. Those procedures might not be normal for Jimmy's show, but the magician may have required it this time to make the trick work. Maybe it's far-fetched but this is my best guess lol. So he knows this guy's birthdate and he calculates in his head "March 23rd, 2003 is 7039 days before today". The quick calendar math part is much more believable since he already showed a very similar trick at the beginning of this bit. So 7039 is now ready to be planted. 5.. Dan asks Jimmy to pull out his phone to make Jimmy do some math. - Yep, that's Jimmy's phone. Dan actually grabs Jimmy's phone to open the calculator app for him, which is totally unnecessary. No, Dan didn't switch it out for an identical copy. Dan is actually going to secretly mess with Jimmy's phone. He turns the phone screen away from the camera and speaks to the audience while he uses some awesome sleight of hand to go to the phone's browser, then to a special website that mimics the standard phone calculator. But it's a trick calculator that Dan placed on this website just for this trick. How does Dan do this sleight of hand so well and convincingly while not looking? Well, you can see him looking down at least once to confirm what he is pressing. The website's domain could have a simple address like 7z4 dot org or something like that. But that's all of the sleight of hand it takes. Just open a browser, type the address and bam you're there. Oh yeah and he also typed "7039" into that trick calculator to set it up for actual fake math. This will force Jimmy's random number to be the exact number he needs. This will ALSO IMMEDIATELY TYPE "7039" ON THE CHALKBOARD IN THE ENVELOPE because the tablet is connected to the trick calculator website. Smart. 5. Dan asks the birth years of the 3 people that Jimmy did not choose to add them up on the calculator resulting in 6006. - This is legit. We all did this at home. Those 3 people aren't actors either. 6. Dan asks Jimmy to type out a totally random 4th, 4-digit number to add to the total. That number is 1033 resulting in 7039. - This is where the trick calculator does its final work. Dan asks jimmy to randomly type 4 numbers on the screen, but what is not shown on TV is where Jimmy is actually looking when he hits the 4 random numbers. Jimmy is probably looking up at Dan while he is typing these numbers. The directors might have cut out that specific direction of "don't look at the calculator when you type these numbers to make sure it's random" to maybe save time on the broadcast. It's not essential to cut that direction of broadcast out for the trick, but that may have happened. So Jimmy taps the calculator pad four times and the resulting number was 1033 REGARDLESS of what Jimmy actually typed, because Dan PLANTED 7039 into the calculator earlier and the calculator was setup to make sure the 4th number would be 7039 MINUS the previous total of 6006. Watch the footage again and see if it looks like Jimmy typed 1033. It doesn't right? It's also possible that Jimmy's own hand was covering the top numbers when he typed them OR the app wasn't showing these numbers as he typed them for some reason until he hit the 4th number. This was great at convincing us as well since we're all doing the math at home and getting the same answer. Also, important to note the camera angle here is below the phone so we don't see the actual numbers popping up as Jimmy types. Trickery. 7. Dan confirms that all of those 4 numbers added up equal 7039. Dan then asks the audience member to reveal the chalkboard prediction and it's 7039! - Yup, Thank you trick calculator website 8. Dan then asks the audience member to reveal his birthday, March 23rd 2003. It's revealed that that birthday is 7039 days before today! - Yup, a combination of extreme memorization skills, a trick website, a trick chalkboard, and some sleight of hand and misdirection. Many props to Dan. If he really did all of the memorizations that I suppose he did, then he has put many, many years into becoming a memorization master. Yet even with this great skill on hand, he dares not to publicize it for the sake of a fantastic trick. Well done, Dan! In conclusion, go watch "In and Of Itself". It's streaming somewhere.

Great analysis. It's possible that Jimmy Fallon was somewhat in on it and tried to throw the ball specifically to a number of plants, each of whom had a birthday that Dan knew (or, for which he just had to memorize a specific 4-digit number for). Not all of the throws would land on the right person, but one would. However, I agree that a magician of Dan's caliber would probably not leave it to chance, and he may we'll have done it as you said.

You wouldn't really need the memorization part. There could simply be an assistant backstage who has a list with all audience members' birthdays. 1. Do the 'trick' where you calculate the day you were born with; this is just mathematics. But it allows the assistant of the magician to see Jimmy's phone/model. Or maybe just to make sure the phone has internet access. 2. Ask all audience members to shout out their birthdays. 3. Pretend to write something on the blackboard; but really leave it empty. Put it in the envelope. 4. throw balls in audience 5. give envelope to one audience member. Assistant will now go ahead and figure out the person's birthday; studio knows it based on seat/ticket sales 6. Ask Jimmy to get out phone again and to unlock it. After Jimmy unlocks it, the magician TAKES THE PHONE, opens the calculator app 7. Magician starts telling a long story about how everybody can participate with; while he's telling the story, he opens the phone's browser, fills in an URL that shows/runs a fake calculator app, controlled by the assistant through the internet 8. Fill in the three years and add them together; 9. Magician needs 'one more number'; it will be random; he asks Jimmy to randomly enter the numbers; however the numbers are NOT random, the fake calculator app that's connected to the internet, will give specific numbers, the assistant came up with; which will bring the total to the number of days of the person that's holding the envelope. ... 10. The chalkboard is an iPad with e-Ink screen, the assistant has access to; you can chalk on it yes; but the assistant just let it display the correct number. 11. etc, etc. etc.

My best guess: As soon as Jimmy hands the envelope to an audience member, the number of days from the their birthdate to the current date is calculated and sent to the Lynx chalkboard by an assistant--7039. Everything from this point on is theater. He legitimately opens the calculator app at 4:38 but then pulls it back at 4:41 to ask everyone to open their calculators and we can't see what his right thumb is doing. This was misdirection to open a browser and navigate to a site that looks like the calculator. The first three birth years are entered and he asks Jimmy to press "equals" which gives us 6006. When he asks everyone press "plus" again, this instructs the app that any numbers entered now will automatically be equal to the difference needed to reach the target number 7039 (1033 in this example). This is why it was important to ask Jimmy ***not*** to look at his phone while he entered the numbers.

And the fact that he only make a reference about the first time they met, is just to mislead. I wonder whether I would keep my phone in my suit's pocket as the host of a late night show. Most likely, I wouldn't even have it inside the studio. I find it more plausible that Jimmy was asked to bring a phone along for this act. In this case it could also be any phone that was given to him for this purpose rather than HIS actual phone. In other words it is very likely that this is a manipulated prop, the magician knows where the fake app is located and is able to quickly open it

The lady in the audience who's birth year is 1999 doesnt catch the ball at all? maybe just a red-herring. 3. There are devices called LYNX blackboards - they are linked by bluetooth - if you write something on one board in special magnetic chalk it sends it via bluetooth to the other - you can have the receiving device load a pre-loaded images or replicate excatly. 4. at 2:57 "Im going to place the prediction inside this envelope so nobody can see it" for a good reason - he hasn't actually written anything on the board 5. He makes sure the assistant in the audience is holding up the envelope so there is no bluetooth signal interference between the big LYNX board he writes 7039 on and the smaller LYNX board that replicates the number from a pre-loaded image I suspect as it's not exactly the same.
