@@Dr.JustIsWrong This reminds me of the trick I was taught as a child. You make many piles that add up to 13. If the first card is an ace it has 13 cards, if a king one. Then have them choose a deck and set it aside. Then have them choose any other two decks. Combine the other decks, then count out the value of the top cards of the other two decks. Now count out ten more cards. The number of cards left is the value of the top card of the first chosen deck, that was set aside. Isn't math wonderful.

Lol... that's the idea of the tutorial... Mr wizard. I'm one too. There was a trick I came across a few years back that it freaks everyone out. You cut the deck in half and turn up a red and black card. You hand them the pile and say they are to focus on red and black (cards are upside down of course). You never touch the cards and get them to shuffle as much as they want then place the card on whatever colour card they think it is. Give them the second half (you make up some bull about doing the whole deck at once is too much for most and get them to clear their minds... whatever) then they do it again. There are 4 piles of card only they have touched... and shuffled. When you turn over all 4 piles ALL the colours are the same (so card pile red and black you started with turned face up have all the same colour underneath). It really freaks out EVERYONE. don't know why I thought of that trick and went on about it.... its the most mind boggling trick I know....cheers.

I feel a better way to mask this trick would be to remove two cards from the deck during the reveal. For example, if you're looking for the 19th card you could remove the 10th card and the 19th card and place them side by side. Then ask the spectator to choose one of the two. If they choose the 10th card you remove it, if they choose the 19th card you reveal it. Adds an extra layer and doesn't make it seem so mathmatical.

@SeanithanEgan you'll like another such card force trick you can do with 9 cards [Cont. after this trick] You take out 9 cards out of the pack, and you already know which one is theirs, so you keep an eye on it. •You then take two cards in hand and ask the spectator to select one, and that'd be rejected. ((You need to always choose two cards which are not their one.)) •Then, they'd pick up two cards, and you have to reject one. ((Since you know what card is theirs, you'll always reject the other one)) •This way, if you have 9 cards, in the end it'll be the spectator picking up the last two cards, and you'll reject the random card, and the spectator will be left with their card in their hand, and very stumped. -also, you can reorder the nine cards down on the table after each rejection session, that'll make it less sus when the spectator sees thru that you are neither picking one particular card, nor rejecting it. [I saw this trick in mismag822's vid, it was named Force Factor iirc]

I used an illustrated Chinese deck of cards to add mystique (and misdirection). Then I Introduced the "ancient Chinese Shuffle" at the end by pairing the bottom cards ("Green Dragons") with the top cards ("Red Dragons"). Finally I reshuffled the spectator's counted stack and placed it face down on the table, nimbly lifting off some "dragon breath" from the top of it and placing this invisible smoke onto the (as yet unrevealed) selected card, slowly lifting my hand away and opening my fingers out wide. The spectator then turned over his own card, completely gobsmacked. Foo Ling Yu

A better way to involve the spectator in the reveal at the end, is to hand *them* the deck, and take for yourself the previously cut stack. Then have you and them *simultaneously* count cards from the top. When you run out of cards in your pile, ask the spectator to flip over their next card, and voila. You can also do this in reverse, so you have the deck and they have the cut stack, as long as you both count out your cards at the same time. Either way, the idea is that there's no time during the trick where the magician knows in advance how many cards are in the cut stack and could pull any last minute slight of hand.

Add one more trick: deal the final counted cards out face up, stopping when their picked card shows. Now take the next card from the pack and hold it so it can't be seen. Say, "what do you bet the next card I turn over will be yours?" Of course, they can see their card is already turned over and will bet $$$. Take their card from the pile and turn it over. A cheesy twist.

This is a brilliant trick! It reminds me of 'A Good Match' from Harry Blackstone's book "Tricks anyone can do."(A great book by the way) I noticed when playing around with this trick it actually does work with different numbers of cards in the deck. So you could do this with less than 52 cards (or more) the thing you would need to keep track of is how many cards you have in your deck. if it is an even number you can do the trick like normal and it will work. If you have an odd number you flip over the last counted card (aka the card previous to the normal card you would flip over as presented in the tutorial) and the trick still works. This is a fantastic gem of a magic trick. I highly recommend adding it to your set list.

Great trick! The one way to take the counting of the cut pile out of it is to take 2 or 3 parts of the cut pile and add them up in your mind. But with each part you cut, fan them in front of the spectator asking the to look at the cards you are showing them. Say...'by looking and confirming their selected card is not there, they are sending the message to you which card they selected.' Then you csn either reveal their card in 1 of 2 ways: 1) By silently counting from the selected pilelike shown in the video until you reveal their card. 2) Or by fanning them facing you to count and know their card. Once known, quicky stop and say, "let's make this even more random so truly only your mind is telling me what the csrd is. Then mess the cards up on the table either face up or face down. Pick out the card if messed face up, or if you mess the pile face down keep your fingers on the selected card as you mess them up, and 'search' and turn over their card.

The math behind this trick is simple - once they cut x cards you're left with their pile of 26-x cards, their selection and 25 cards on top. There will always be less cards under their selection than on top of it. By dealing one from top and one from bottom you just get rid of 26-x cards from bottom and top to a point where you're left with pile with their selection on bottom and x-1 cards on top

If you have the spectator simply replace their selection to the top of the other deck and continue from there, you can have the spectator do the entire trick without you ever having to touch the cards.

You can also have the audience member shuffle the deck and deal out the 26 cards in two piles at the beginning. Next you can have them make the cut in either half pile as well as shuffle the cards in the second half pile choosing the target card all without the magician touching the deck. The more the cards remain in the mark's hands the better. In the tutorial, at 6:52, I don't think it matters which of the two remaining piles you choose to put the half deck (the pile with the forced card on the bottom). The trick will continue to work as shown.

  • @fredact

I've used two people. One deals the cards, 26 to each (with me telling them this is to assure its a standard deck of 52 cards). Then one cuts their pile, and the other picks the card. You mostly address the one that picked the card, but at the end you say something like "I have no idea where the card is, do you? But you know who does? That guy" pointing to the one that had cut the cards. Have the cutter then count their cards.

I fail to believe this. I figured the trick out the first time he did it and as soon as he did the top, bottom card shuffle towards the end I already knew the left over deck and math was involved. The only thing I didn't catch the first time is whether the card was forced to the top or bottom, but the false shuffle was obvious.

When you work this one out using simple algebra you will realize that the two jokers and two advertizing cards could have been left in the pack and then split them into 28:28 stacks instead of 26:26. It is irrelevant as to how many cards you have as long as you have equal stacks at the start. You could use two full packs of different designs which gives 52:52 stacks.

My first thought was that there must be a smooth way to get them to count off or turn over the cards in the small deck while you count off the big deck in parallel so that when they are turning over the last card you are turning over the chosen card. On the other hand, it is probably better to switch who does which pile so they don't think that you must have done some sleight of hand in the final step.
