    To all of us Tomb Raider Fans, a game aniversary is something of concern. What we are now as a person is thanks to have had Lara among our lives. She, somehow, has influenced our gowing up and helped us become what we are now as adults. Tomb Raider will be forever in my heart, and I made the promise to keep playing it and loving it 'til life give me the chance to do so.❤

    I remember playing TR3 on a PS1 kiosk, and even though I died several times, I still had a lot of fun. Back then I didn't have a PS1 or PC powerful enough to play this game and I was really sad when my dad said we were going home. I can't believe that was 25 years ago 0_o

    Ah yes, this is where my story began. In 1998, I had heard of Tomb Raider, for sure, but never really had any interest in trying it out (my main focus was firmly on the FPS genre)... until one fateful day when I bought a gaming magazine that had a pretty long article about TR3. I read it and felt it was an interesting game, in terms of story and setting - there were also a bunch of cool screenshots all over the pages, and even some early rumors of a Tomb Raider movie being in the works. Most importantly, though, the magazine came with a CD. And that CD had the TR3 demo on it... You know where this is heading, right? This demo (the Jungle level) was the reason I installed DirectX for the very first time on our old PC (yes, kids, there was a time when it wasn't included in the OS by default). My first attempt ended exactly as you can imagine - I started sliding down the big mud ramp and died on the spikes a couple of seconds later. But the seeds had already been sown and eventually I did get the full game and started working my way to through it. TR3 may be pain, but it's also one amazing teacher that turns you into a great TR player with the reflexes of a ninja. It was only natural to go back to the beginning, so the next game was TR1, of course. The brutal training I had received from TR3 made it feel quite easy most of the time, at least until the Egypt levels... I'd eventually go on to play all classic Tomb Raiders, and the three mini-expansions. So. Many. Great. Memories! And it all started in TR3 :)

  • @AxMania

    @AxMania

    We share identical stories pretty much, how funny! I, too, was absolutely obsessed with all those classic FPS games (Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Rise of the Triad etc.) before I ever got my hands on Tomb Raider. My first Tomb Raider experience was the Tomb Raider II demo, which I only played for 5 minutes, and didn't like. Then I played Tomb Raider III, and loved it! Then the next game I played was the first game, which felt much easier, compared to III. So very similar stories, haha. And yes, I too died on that mudslide, of course 😅

  • @AlexeiVoronin

    @@AxMania - Heh, I remember my first contact with TR2 was through a demo of the Golden Mask that I found on another gaming magazine CD - it was the Cold War level. And guess what - I also didn't like it very much at first, mostly because there was a bit too much combat for my taste, and the level itself seemed pretty convoluted (as is usually the case with these mini-expansions). Years later, though, I learned to enjoy TR2.

    25 years ago, and I wasn't even born back then. And we didn't even get anything this time, not even a freaking cookbook like two years ago, lmao. Great video, but jokes aside, a No Death run would be seriously worth it, and I would also watch a Let's Play from you! I'm currently practicing the No Loads No Meds (which basically is No Deaths with the limitation of using no meds either) run and it's hella fun, I can only recommend that (okay, everything besides *the dive* in RX-Tech, that one is hell).

  • @AxMania

    @AxMania

    Thank you! Haha, a No Death run would be one hell of a challenge. There are certain points in the game I can't even imagine are possible without medi-packs, such as Madubu Gorge, and yes, like you said, RX-Tech Mines 😱 I have no idea how far I would get in an actual No Death run 😅

  • @kirschcali

    @kirschcali

    7 ай бұрын

    @@AxMania Ah, trust me, it sounds worse than it actually is. With some patience and a bit of practice at difficult parts, it should be definitely doable for an experienced raider. 😄 RX-Tech shouldn't be an issue with medpacks, it's just hard to perform it with no meds at all (and btw no crystals, they're not allowed either), Madubu can be tricky if you get the wrong path, I admit that. Besides that it's probably the best to check the most dangerous traps and how to avoid them (and maybe Ganges & RX minecarts), then it should be fine. Just give it a try! 😉

    Here's an idea for a challenge I saw on another channel - beat Natla's Mines without collecting any weapons at all (not even the pistols). This will obviously mean Natla's henchmen can't be killed. Also, according to what I've read, entering the next level would give you the Pistols automatically. Another idea, for a TR3 challenge, and it should be pretty obvious - beat the game leaving the Nevada section for last, so that you go to Antarctica with the least amount of supplies. Shouldn't be too tough for an experienced player.

  • @AxMania

    @AxMania

    Those would be some great challenges, haha, thank you! I actually never do Nevada first, unlike most people, but I've never done it last either, so I would be very curious to see how much harder that would be. I imagine Lost City of Tinnos in particular would be really difficult in this order. The Natla's Mines challenge would require LOTS of medi-packs I imagine! 😅

    TR3 really surprised me on my most recent playthrough last year, having first played it in 2009 a whole 11 years after i played the first two games. I really do this this game is aging like fine wine. It's now bumped ahead of TR2 in my game ranking, there's just too much good there, whereas i find the stretch between offshore rig - the deck kills the momentum of the game. But TR3 India, Nevada, South pacific is perfection. 😊

    Ah TRIII, the gift that keeps on giving😂 It is the first Tomb Raider game I ever played, and I remember as clear as day how difficult it was... but there were many sweet memories as well, mainly from the India & Nevada sections. Some of these that immediately come to mind are riding the Quad Bike along the River Ganges, battling mad Tony in an underground cave after surviving a pit full of cobras, climbing up and down a canyon in the Nevada Desert, and running back to the prisoners I let out of their cells to save me from the Military Police in the High Security Compound🥰

    Mine as well! 😃 And what a tough one to start with!!! 😂 Yeah, I love this game. It's just a series of amazing moments, one after another. You certainly summed up some of the best ones here. Navigating that canyon in Nevada Desert is a really underrated incredible moment, I feel.

    @@AxManiaYeah it was indeed soo difficult, I died so many times 😨 So we had the same (difficult) first-TR experience, nice!😎 The Nevada canyon is very beautiful but also difficult/confusing to navigate and find out where to go/climb (and thus frustrating) for a new/young player - I fell down so many times😂 but that also makes it so memorable🥰 and also don't forget the vultures, rattlesnakes, and mysterious aircrafts (that scared the living hell out of me due to the large sound they produce and because they appear so suddenly/out of the blue)...

    Don't wanna show off, but... I can go WAY further. I always reach an amazing zip line, after which (you won't believe this) a TIGER appears! But it always gets me. Beyond that tiger I do not know what else can be, and I'm too afraid to figure it out anyway. I assume there are a couple more levels set in the Indian jungle, then Lara retrieves the Infada artifact, and finally she goes back home. Easy-peasy lemon squeeze, right...? Right? 😅 Ha! Hey my brother, how you doing? Long time no talk. I was unceasingly pursued by the Military Police due to a huge misunderstanding. (Apparently you're not allowed to lunch big rockets to the space, no matter they're blocking the way to pretty shiny buttons you're desperate to push.) I only was being logical, if I may say. Now seriously, your video reminds me of that time, some years ago, I was streaming TR3 no loads, no meds, all secrets... and I kept dying on the spikes of the 'Mudslide of Doom', as you call it. Good thing that viewers found it entertaining, 'cause I was laughing so hard I was completely out of focus and kept bringing torment into Lara. 🤣 Take care, you.

    Although Tomb Raider 3 Isn’t my most favourite game of the original series , I still love so many levels from it with Indian Jungle and Crash Site being my biggest favourites and High Security Compound and Thames Wharf my least favourite levels. It’s high difficulty spike is definitely more challenging on the PS1 version but at least the save crystals are collectible there and can be used at any point. I remember playing this game for the first time back in Christmas 1998 and took me so long to complete it as back then online information didn’t exist so I only had a guidebook for assistance. I actually love the Lost Artefact even more and look forward to seeing it included for the remastered release next February 😊

    TR3 is my favourite game out of the franchise and one of my favourite games ever. I love the levels, the characters (especially Willard), the difficulty level, simply everything about it. And let's be honest, it wasn't even that hard. Sure, if you expect something like zelda botw, which is embarrassingly easy, then you're probably gonna have a hard time. But classic TR games weren't supposed to be played with 0 deaths. Dying was part of the experience. TR3 is in my opinion the perfect tomb raider game.

It means having the experience to know the moment you press jump that you measured it wrong and you're gonna die :D TR3 is a lovely game, but I think it's more enjoyable once you are decently knowledgeable about the levels rather than playing it for the first time.
