Tom Talks: 1966 Ford GT40 Mk1 | Tom Hartley Jnr
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In March 1963 the Ford Motor Company decided to delve further
into the world of racing, specifically that of long-distance sports car
racing. The target was the most prestigious race of this series, the
24 Hours of Le Mans. On the 1st April that same year, the very
first Ford GT prototype was presented to the world.
It wasn't until 1966 that the FAV (Ford Advanced Vehicles) factory in Slough had been developing the production Mk1 GT40 under the steer of John Wyer.
This example is one of just 30 road specification Mk1 GT40's to ever come out of the factory and is unique in it's original colour of Warwick Green.
Chassis P/1057 was despatched to the US market on 23rd December, 1966; not before being photographed in an iconic image with 7 other Mk1 road cars also destined for America.
This example has an outstanding history, having been sold by Carroll Shelby himself in 1967 to its first owner to later passing through the hands of some of the worlds most prominent collections.
The Ford GT40 is one of the most iconic cars of all time, both on and off the track. With its unique original colour and full matching number status, chassis P/1057 is arguably one of the finest examples in existence and would make the perfect addition to any collection.

The GT40 is the best car ever. No questions asked.
Cannot imagine a more perfect car! Color spot on too !!
He felt like the first time I drove my Ferrari 430. Not the same car but I felt just like he felt. If you are ever stress out in life all you need is a short drive in a car like this to forget about all your worries.
Beautiful 🩵 the color is stunning!!!
You cant hide the excitement from any petrol head, it's like when you bring your kids to the toy shop. Love it.

This car was actually delivered to us with 2 very special models. A 1:18 with removable wheels and fully functioning features and a very rare 1:12 model of the same period.
That color is stunning.

@@TomHartleyJnrLtd; And I thought "Guardsman Blue" was my favorite color for 1966 Fords.
I heard one of these once in person and the sound was incredible, an absolute beast.

That's the most beautiful car I have ever seen. It's futuristic even today. Hard to believe it's slightly older than me.
What a mind blowing machine. Tom you have such a discerning taste for vintage cars and this one proves it. Congrats on the purchase, be hard to see this one go.
Unreal! Felt like I was inside the cabin. I had to turn my headphones down....but not too much! And yes, I love the green.
Absolutely Fantastic

Wow, you just never see the road GT40s, what a amazing sight for such a iconic car. You truly look happy my friend, congratulations.
The colour really jumps out at unique. Looks almost a contemporary version of a retro look if that makes sense.
Amazing to see, what a beautiful colour, then it started up . . . . . Lordy, she sounds super 🏁 thanks THJ
Beautiful car and color. Shoes match too. I'm not British but I think you'd call that Cheeky.
Thank you Tom, I cannot buy these cars but I appreciate the expertise and pure love you have around your cars. Always a great geek out as well - cheers mate.
What a wonderful and beastly analog machine.
If I had to choose just one classic car to drive, perhaps this would be the one. Such an icon and so beautifully restored and adore the colour too.
Like the green and the shine.
Simply beautiful
If you Google "Ford Advanced Slough" Ford Co. has a fantastic historical essay on the development of this car.
I saw both a racing, and road version of the GT-40 in a private collection in Scottsdale Arizona. They have fantastic cars
An important road car converted to race spec is chassis P1049. This car was purchased by Grady Davis, an executive at Gulf Oil, in 1966. He actually had his car converted to race spec, and had it entered it into the 1967 Daytona 24 under the J.W.A.E team, formerly F.A.V., where it achieved 6th Overall, and was the highest placed Ford vehicle. It would have placed higher, but due to an error where they had left the windscreen heater switch in during conversion, someone bumped it and between that, and the headlamps and other electrical items on, the vehicle was using more amps than the alternator could produce. They thought the battery or alternator was going bad, which was replaced but still had that issue. With the lost time, they figured they could have finished as well as 4th had this not happened. This car would propel the Gulf Oil company to enter endurance racing. The car did not start out int the famous livery we all know and love today, the Daytona and Sebring car ran a dark blue/orange, but would later adapt the sky blue/orange when the Mirage M1 cars began racing).
Awesome Cars , Thanks Tom
God, what a sound!
Wow.....the sound.

What a fabulous car and sold in a few days! Absolutely the right choice to repaint in correct colour. Gt40 P1008 in Linden green when presented with colour matched wheels is my dream car!
The color is very similar to Aston Martin’s F1 color. Absolutely beautiful.

Great to see it being used :)
The roar of that motor like music.
beauty beauty color one of the best Ford GT
Simply awesome.
Beautiful GT40. The color reminds me of Ford "Gulf Stream Agua". Congratulations on your purchase. A 1960's Ford GT would go well with my 05 and 2019 for the trifecta 😊. Thanks for posting including the fascinating owner history.
Thank You for sharing. What an experience, my brother and I understand you have to leave the potential clients something to chew on, that car is a unicorn! We wanted to hear more revs! We were on the edge of the couch drooling!
My all-time great car choice (with the Cobra a close second). Just wonderful.
Sounds amazing
That’s literally my dream car. Would love just to drive one. Dad was born in 66 so it’s something very close to me

What a great car Tom and of course a wonderful video. Would like to see more. 👍🙂🇬🇧
Oh good lord the Mk1 has the prettiest lines and the 289 Hi-Po with the 8 Webbers it sounds incredible. I know the big block is where it's at but as a road car it's more than enough for me.
Simply Stunning. 🏁
Video production rivals quality of the car. Well done!

A unicorn car. The only GT 40 Mk1 in that color! Nice!
Yes Tom!!!
Magnificent!!!!
Seeing these in person is rad. They are so low and tiny. A little bit bigger than a Miata and you sit inches off the ground.
Green IS Gorgeous !!!!!!!!!

Love the colour. Nice to see one without all the racy graffiti.
Absolutely stunning colour, probably considered quite bold for the era I would imagine. Excellent presentation as usual, I especially love the hearing about the provenance of each individual car, I feel that's a level of information I wouldn't get elsewhere on youtube and even though I'm not in the market for one I still very much enjoy learning about these cars.

Cheers Tom!
Fantastic car, beautiful colour - bet you keep it!!!! I would.
love it tom!
Love the colors you go with.....everyone always seems to want red. These unique colors such as this and the one on the Daytona you recently published are fabulous.
One word EPIC
That fuel pump is louder than my V6. Sweet.
Love the passion , beautiful How many right hand drive '
What a color
thanks for that video, those of us that love the history of motor sport, it's great to see you talk about the history of the cars, but I see in your show room you have some classic bikes like the Manx Norton it would be great to see a video on some of the Bikes you own,
Marvelous
Still with a 200 MPH speedometer in 1966
I shall consider purchasing it.
Legendary
Arguably one of the 4 most beautiful cars in history. The other 3 are Ferrari 250 GTO, Mercedes 300 SL Gull Wing and E type Jaguar.
