On “My Car Story” we're in Rosemont IL at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on 11-19-21.
We’re looking at a 1966 Ford GT40 AM GT-1 Alan Mann Race Car in Red Paint. The car features a 289 CI V8 engine, and a 5 speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Rex Myer. Rex’s had this car since 1981. Rex shares he’s had Shelby Mustangs and Shelby Cobras but he needed something a little bit more. This car was the answer.
Also Bob Ashton who runs the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals joins us to share brief details on this AMAZING car show. To see details on the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, go to www.MCACN.com
ENJOY!

The love that that owner has for that car comes through with every sentence and wih every time he touches that car. Watch how he gently lowers the engine cover--40 years and he's still enchanted. A lucky, lucky man.

The GT-40 is THE quintessential Ford race car and will always be remembered as one of the most iconic and successful race cars of all time!!! The design of the GT40 is timeless as it would fit in with today's mid engine layout cars, only the GT40 is way way cooler!!!! I must add that seeing the "bundle of snakes" is always special!!! Another perfect example of seeing the very best and most exclusive cars on My Car Story!!!! Excellent video Lou!!!

I always see the MK11's and I had no idea they made a civilian style road car. so cool. I've built a a few mopars to showroom condition, but this car always gets me. It has such an organic look to it. it's weird how true function sometimes is ahead of form. I guess it's always like that in the evolutionary world. oh man. What a car.

Good God Lou! That has to be the most incredible car you have ever presented, it would be hard to top this car for sure. What a piece of history these cars are ,I can't imagine roaring down the straights at over 200 miles an hour in one of these cars, you would have to have balls of steel. It is great he has kept it so original and you can hear the passion he has for this car...............he knows about every aspect of this historic vehicle. If this was up for sale I can only imagine the price it could bring being not only a original FORD GT but a very special one. Thanks Lou that was an amazing car wish you could have extended the video for the few hours that the owner needed to give us the full story of this amazing race car . He spoke about the sand bent exhaust system , a lot of your viewers might not know what this process was. Back in the day factory mandrel bent pipes and Tig welding was not available , so to avoid the reduction in pipe diameter on the inside of press bent exhaust tubing a length of pipe was filled with sand and capped at both ends and heated and bent to the required shape . Having attempted this with mixed results it is art more than a manufacturing process. Cheers Steve

I’ll tell you one thing, ill bet if Enzo had been walking through the pits, maybe curious to check out what Ford was doing, and heard that exhaust, he would have or should have been scared of those cars. They sounded nasty, and for people not accustomed to the snarl of an American V8 with individual carburetors and open exhaust, the sound was menacing to say the least. Wow, just incredible.

I think that Ford with the GT40 not only showed the world that an American car (it was actually built by Lola in England.) could win but an American TEAM could win. It is wonderful that I can see the cars that I followed and loved when I was a teenager.
@Loulovesspeed
Жыл бұрын
@@tracylemme1375 - Sorry mate, but the Ford GT40 was NOT BUILT by Lola - couldn't be further from the truth! Eric Broadley was hired by Ford to work on developing the Ford GT but couldn't work effectively with big corporate types and insisted on doing things his way! Guess he forgot who owned and was paying for this project, but within a year he went back to his company, Lola and was done with any more work on the GT. Ford originally purchased 2 Lola GT Mk6 cars from Broadley to use as a study in designing the GT40 and returned them to Lola when Eric left in a huff. Please stop perpetuating the untruth that Lola built the car. Ford of America and Ford of England teamed to design and produce the GT40, and it had exactly zero Lola components in it!

Hi Easy Going, High praise :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou
When old Ford race cars are talked about, Alan Mann Racing is often overlooked and most of the attention given to Shelby and Holman & Moody. Almost like the commentators have tried to erase Alan Mann Racing out of the history books! Maybe with good reason as the Mann Race cars were often faster than their contemporaries on the track! And as for the Alan Mann was prepping Ford before Shelby comment, this is very true as the first cars they prepped & raced were 1964 Falcons for the Monte Carlo Rally. The custodian of this car seems like a nice guy, but I bet he gets a call every now and then from Henry Mann trying to buy it back :)

@Uncensored - Let me share another side of the great Alan Mann you may, or may not be aware of! First of all, don't confuse Mann with Shelby and Holman Moody. Shelby, HM and Kar-Kraft were directly involved with many changes made to improve the reliability as well as the performance of the GT40. Mann was merely the head of the British racing team. The reason Mann is often overlooked probably has more to do with his "unique" (I'm trying to be nice here!) style of managing his race team. When Bob Bondurant was sent to Mann's team as a driver by Carroll Shelby, he couldn't believe what Mann was directing as far as who on his team would win, who would be second, etc. He advised Bondurant who questioned it that while Shelby had sent him to race for the British team, he was now under Mann's direction and had to follow his instructions or just go back to America! Bondurant's immediate reply to Mann was, "Well, I don't know how you do things here in England, but in America, we each race to win!" In short, Bondurant played Mann's game, but went on to win his way! 🤠 🏆 🏁 RIP Bob Bondurant.
What a beast and RHD.
