Clayton Delaney is just A fictional name for someone that Tom T knew growing up who passed away in a very young age and in his 20s I think he even might’ve taught him how to play guitar this is definitely one of my favorite Tom T Hall Songs thanks for doing it

Lonnie Easterling is the actual name of who this song is about and it's a true story written by Tom T. Hall.
The storyteller Tom T Hall.
Tom did write this. I believe he wrote most all his songs,

Well, they didn't call him "the Storyteller" for nothing. What really propelled him to fame was that he wrote the monster hit "Harper Valley PTA," which topped the Bilboard chart the week of 9-21-68.
One of my favorites. Can't go wrong with Tom T. Fox on the Run.
It’s sad that Tom ended up in such a state that he shot and killed himself. He was one of my favorites in the early ‘70’s and still is.
The subject of this song is much debated here in Olive Hill, KY. Most everyone agrees that it was a young guitarist named Lonnie Easterling who died of lung disease

@Cruiser Nation Wow, that's some serious insight right there. And intriguing.
One of the best country songs of all time
One of Tom T.'s best songs.
All you need to know about Tom T. Hall is that, of all the great country music songwriters and all the stories they write, it was Hall that was given the nickname"The Storyteller". That's a special distinction.
You’re “right on” in your assessment. One distinction in Tom’s songs, he never judged anyone. Not even Luther Short (from “The Little Lady Preacher”).
Mr. Hall was a huge favorite of mine. He always struck me as the "Anti Outlaw" type, in the time of outlaw country's most popular era. I loved how he loved to make kids happy, and how he always invited some kids on stage, to sit at his feet, as he played those silly songs that meant so much to so many.

I shook hands with him in the summer of 1985 at a fair about 12 miles from my home. A true credit to the human race. RIP, Storyteller, ain't nobody gonna fill YOUR shoes!
Thanks Don, Tom T. Is one of my favorites and IMO one of the 5 best American singer/songwriters any genre. Most of his songs are what I term as slice of life songs and you can't go wrong with any of them. However, I will mention Clayton Delaney's Son a follow up that he wrote a couple of years later.
love it....a fav!!!
I only found out a few days ago that Tom T Hall committed suicide. That breaks my heart. I loved that man
I find it hard to believe that Tom T Hall died of self inflicted wounds.
Loved this song, and it's especially touching because we have lost Tom T. This led me to go back and play a Gene Watson song called, "The Old Man and His Horn," which had a real Dixie Land sound and a story to it. I'm also thinking of "Mr. Bo Jangles," and - well, the list goes on. I will never live long enough to hear all the music I want to revisit, but this helps. Thanks Don.
Clayton Delaney was a real person in Tom T. Hall's childhood and very similar to the protagonist's friend. I listened to this song often since last week and I heard news about Tom T. Hall's death, but mostly I prefer Bobby Bare's version, depends on my mood.
Love that you did this great song. Remember it from when I was a kid. He wrote it. I miss Tom T! Is similar to Ballad of Curtis Loew.
such a sad end for Tom T, he passed away last august and it was recently released that he commited suicide. R.I.P.
Nothing like a Tom T song. You're can close you're eyes and see it happening
Dear don This is sharlene again. I just wanted to thank you for playing all the songs that i have requested in the past. I would like to request my 3favorite christmas soongs. Love your comments on this. Heart
I would also suggest “Margie’s At the Lincoln Park Inn” for Tom’s genius in painting a picture.
This is by far my fave Tom T song. Rip TTH
One of my favorite Tom T Hall songs.
One of my favorite
Was Clayton Delaney a real person? The real person behind the fictitious Delaney was a childhood hero of Hall of Famer Hall. Most people assume that Delaney must have been an old man, but he was actually just a teenager when he died of lung disease.
This song reminds me of the song Leonard by Merle Haggard. Great reaction. I love seeing reactions to these classics from the past. Have you done "Faster Horses" by Tom T Hall?

Or yesterday’s wine.
Great song. Another person who can tell a heck of a story in a song. Just so sad another one is now gone he wiil be missed .
My wife wrote a letter to Mr. Hall a couple of years before he passed. She said to him that I would like to get together with him and have a cup of coffee. He sent me a card with his signature and also he tried to call me. But unfortunately, I missed the phone call. His passing was tragic, and I don’t know why he ended it the way he did.
Thanks for this video Don. I've always enjoyed TTH's music. He was such a great storyteller. I always wondered if this song was from his own personal experience.
"Homecoming" is excellent. Bobby Bare covered it, as well.
You need to listen to the ballad of forty dollars. You’ve mentioned before how observant Tom T Hall is but I think the ballad of forty dollars is the best example of that. It is a true story based on a past work experience of his.

@@RockN2Country Understandable. I do recommend perhaps starting to think of a better way of getting requests because if you gain more subscribers (and people watching), I’m sure that this format will start getting out of hand with the amount of requests. Not everybody is understanding as to “why their request didn’t get fulfilled etc.”

@GITRDONE 7117 It's been this way since I started the channel, and all reactors are in the same situation. I probably get 20 requests per day and post one video, but people are understanding. I suppose if I was purely into the numbers I would've stuck with Nashville country, which is more popular, but I like the niche we've got here. I balance the better-known artists with artists who are just starting out, and it's a labor of love. I could do many more videos per day if I didn't care about editing, but I do so I keep going at the current pace. Time will tell if anything changes down the road, but it's a nice group we've got here.
Lov those horns! Dan-1/24/22
Sir, Mrs. Bracken's youngest son Jim here... Thanks so much for doing this tune as it has been one of my favorites for years... Sorry for possibly screwing things up with my request... Still not sure how to request another as I am tech challenged... I said if your rating was anything over a 8.5, I would be shickled tickless... An 8.9 is nothing but gravy... Thanks again...
You should listen to the last ride by hank snow
Please react to Josh Turner. He's the artist that introduced me to country music. Any songs will do.
Great song. I've always liked it. Just a small slice of life. I was thinking today that you should do Nashville Cats by the Lovin' Spoonful. Just as country as Led Zeppelin.
Reminds me of Believe by Brooks and Dunn. The Black man took the young white kid under his wing

@tully3711th I frickin loved that video and reacted to it over two years ago, and they blocked it worldwide on me. KZread isn't informative as to why, since A LOT OF others have reacted to it no problem. Same thing with "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." It's frustrating, but other reactors have been blocked for doing reactions to songs that I've successfully uploaded. But to your point, "Believe" was so well done.
His real name was Lonnie Easterling
Have you done a reaction to "I hope it rains at my funeral" ? by Tom T.
Tom T. never sang a word he didn't write
I know you’ve done Marty Robins El Paso but have you done the Sequel to it El Paso City really wish you would do a reaction to this one, The whole idea of writing a song then years later writing a sequel to it is just plain amazing in the lyrics El Paso written in 1959 and it’s sequel written in 1976
If you like these types of songs, then you should listen to Merle Haggard’s Song “Leonard”,

@B.J. Anderson Oh yes, I did that one about eight months ago but took it down, along with about 100 other reactions. Now that a few things seem to have been worked out with KZread, that will be re-uploaded in due course. Stay tuned!
I personally think this song is very close to a 10
