Watched an episode last night and just enjoyed all of it! I can't wait to watch the next one. Honestly, the British productions are on another plane in terms of the delivery of a production, scripts and acting etc.

Well what I don't like is WHY does this present generation keep remaking old classic historical novels and changing them "bloody" around? I mean WHY do they do it? I'm sorry that there were not alot of novels written in the 18th century or the Regency Period with black characters in them, but you CANNOT change the past. You just have to live with it.

@@balin42632003 I imagine there are probably black actors living in the UK that want to work. I think if it’s forced across everything that’s a mistake but I don’t mind some occasional creative twists. I think this is so far well done.

@@balin42632003 Totally agree. Will not be watching this woke nonsense of a English classic period drama of casting black ethnic actors in a 18th century England 'Did not happen then' & the author did not intend a black cast storytelling So they could not find a English actress to play a Typical 18th c.English lady of that period, it must of been hard?

The actor who plays Tom Jones is bland and wooden. Fielding, the author of the 18thcentury novel, meant his Tom to be something else altogether.

A bit harsh, don't you think? I do get your point. However, actors have a lot to work with when filming. Some of the bravest people today. They are also human too. We should give them a ton of respect, especially coming from the comfort of our couches where we don't have that kind of pressure.

Mercy! A feminist "Tom Jones"! Why not serialize a contemporary novel that lends itself to the "female gaze"? Or try Thackeray's "Vanity Fair" which has a distinctly socially rebellious woman in the shape of Becky Sharpe. The last serious and brilliant BBC adaptation of a 19th century novel was Charles Dickens' "Bleak House"-a series for grown-ups rather than a costume drama.
