You can't compare the versions of Tom Cruise both women had. Katie Holmes married a legit psychopath who was very very indoctrinated in a dangerous cult. She fell in love with the idea of him. I always felt he had a far more emotionally intimate relationship with Kidman.

If we’re talking aesthetically, Tom and Katie definitely looked the best together. They share similar features and coloring. They look like they were made for each other. It’s one of the reasons I think people have a hard time pinpointing who Suri looks like (although to me it’s no question that she’s a dead ringer for Tom). But for the record, any couple involving Tom is a strange couple. Even if you’re a fan of him I don’t know how you could deny that he is indeed a very weird individual. I do think he saw Nicole more as his equal than Katie but it’s not a very fair comparison. Katie was young when they met and she gave up a lot of her career and identity to become Mrs. Tom Cruise. When it ended he went on with his career as usual and her main priority was Suri. She obviously cares more about motherhood than her career. No one will ever accuse Tom of putting his kids ahead of his work.
