People dont consider the evolution of the courts when talking abt the goat debate i feel like. If federer had this speed of court his whole career who knows? Hed be even more dominant. And honestly the play is so much more beautiful on these courts. It incentives great stroke play rather than just needing to keep the ball in play

Also to a extent the evolution of stroke techniques has had a impact, back in the wooden racquet days nobody could hit serves over 135mph, most indue to the technology but I remember I tried using a wooden racquet (a authentic one) and hit a serve and reached 138 a dozen times, bare in mind I modeled my serve after Roddick.

Man just how good and how precise was Fed's ball striking back in the day!! He could place that ball exactly where he wanted from wherever he was on the court, at will. He simply doesn't have this level of control now. Suzuki played exceptionally well too, almost a more serve and volley version of Federer himself.

That hard driving slice forehand from Suzuki is simply amazing. You don’t see that in today’s tennis. This would be a great shot for club level players to learn and apply in their matches.

I almost only slice on my forehand when playing matches in my club. The reason is that my topspin forehand is crap. The forehand slice drives people crazy and I win a lot of points with that.

Really high quality From both players Roger is extremely sharp, as someone commented his control is very precise I think he lost some of this once he put power on top of control with bigger racket head. Suzuki definitely gave him a run for his money. Hadn’t heard of him before but definitely very crafty and great net skills.

Suzuki was a great player! weak volleys was the only real opening for Federer that i saw. Federer often did this, though - start out behind and win later. either he is great at in-match adjustments ie figuring out better strategy on the fly or he simply lifted his level when it was needed. maybe some of both, of course.
