Federer's technique and power is actually better now than 2006. But movement and consistency of his shots aren't. Too many errors off the forehand these days. Back then it was invincible.

Agreed, he's technically superior now but he was much tougher to beat back then. If he wasn't facing Nadal on clay he was practically invincible. Man, his almost perfect technique, mental toughness, shot making and selection skills combined with young fast and powerful physique was as close as it could get to the perfect player.

You must also consider that the courts are slower than they used to, that make things more difficult for him.

@@bbbazzinga The CC forehand though has declined. Old Federer was invincible in his forehand corner.

@@springfield03sniper Well, he's not as explosive as he used to be, he also had to adapt to courts that reward more consistency than aggressiveness.
