To those who complain about the children in this recording and at Mass: Children are the future of the church. They must be present and not hidden away. Rejoice the new generation and the parents that take them to Mass. As a parent, it's hard. I'd rather leave mine at home, but that's not what God wants. Have tolerance and pray for these young Catholics.

You are right to bring your children- it is easier not to but all those children, who are baptised, have just as much right to be present in the Church as anyone else. All baptised Catholics have the right to be in the church.

Salty Idaho. Some time ago there was a complaint against noisy children at the Latin Mass I attend. The chapel leadership responded by placing a notice in the weekly bulletin: "The presence of children is a gift to the Church. They are members of our community, and a reminder that our congregation seeks to grow. We welcome ALL children, and offer a smile of encouragement to those parents who make the effort to bring them." This notice is now in the bulletin each week.

Thank you Father, for telling me the truth on what a "valid" confession is. This brought me to tears, because of my many sins. I used to go to confession almost every two weeks, but because of health reasons, I haven't been able to attend Mass that often or to go to confession. Please pray 🙏 for me. That I can obtain a holy confession before my death. St. Joseph, I pray for a provided holy and happy death. For I know not the day nor the hour. I pray I am prepared 🙏🕊️. Going to confession is one of the last things that I like to do. But, it is one of the most rewarding things that I've done. I missed several years here and there; but I've been back more readily, more frequently. Confession is a gift. We don't need intercession for reconciling things with God. People without a priest, need to hire lawyers and psychiatrists to get things off their chest! Today I've found a priest that I have a good regard for. ~~~Nancy

The issue of children at Mass. I cringe sometimes at the screams or such that happen, but Christ stated: ..." Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven". As for the issue of 'yoga' .. I've heard several priests and bishops state it is not wise to do if you are a Catholic, as it comes into contact with the occult, and as he stated, you open yourself up to 'things' you cannot see or are aware of, but 'they' are well aware of you.

Father, this was wonderful and much needed especially as we enter into Lent tomorrow. However, I think you should talk more on receiving our Lord in the Eucharist when in mortal sin for those of us who do not have the privilege of attending the Latin Mass as there is absolutely none in our area, so we don't have the benefits of the beautiful teachings it imparts. We never hear, or rarely I should say, teachings about sin in most Novus Ordo Masses, that's why a lot of us seek out websites like yours. Have pity on those of us who don't get fed with the True teachings of the Faith the way we should. God bless you. Three Hail Mary's for this priest.

I suspect if all the Mass were Latin Mass, we'd still have garbage Homilies in most parishes. Latin does nothing to change the heart and mind of the Priest, it just says the liturgy in a different language. Everyone at Vatican II said the Latin Mass and the worst bit of the "folk revival" was headed by people who were confirmed in the older rites.

A M All I know is what I experienced growing up and the reverence and sacredness of the Latin Mass , the Gregorian chant, and sacred music had a great impact on the people. You didn't dare have conversations with your neighbor before Mass started right in front of the Tabernacle like they do now or receive our Lord in the hand irreverently, etc. When you entered the church you knew you were in the Presence of Christ and you acted accordingly, no one had to tell you. As far as the homilies go, we had very Holy priests who taught without fear of hurting anyone's feelings, the Truth and we were better for it. I never said that just because the Mass was said in Latin that the homilies would be "moving" every time, but they were in the church I attended, I guess I was one of the fortunate ones. If you put the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo Mass side by side, you'll see the difference and the lack of reverence in the new Mass right along with the folk music, guitar and drums and hand clapping that go on frequently. '

I do have to agree with you that a lot of the abuse of the Liturgy that is happening now did come from those in the early Vatican II days. Pity. Hopefully the pendulum will swing the other way.

"As far as the homilies go, we had very Holy priests who taught without fear of hurting anyone's feelings, the Truth and we were better for it. " Unfortunately, I doubt that. It was different era, but every era had good Priests and bad Priests and in between Priests. My first Confession at 7 was with a fire and brimstone Priest who made me confess that I didn't go to Mass, because my parents didn't. What was 7 year old suppose to do, anyway about that? Yet the Priest wanted me to feel bad about it, rather than talking to my parents. It only took me 30+ years to go back to Confession. The reaction inside the church is to something real, to a culture that was too rule bound and lacked love. That said, we're too far gone the other way, with too much emphasis on feelings and not enough on the rules.

" I do see that. I've also been to enough Episcopalian Masses as child to say definitively that Latin is entirely unnecessary to a devout and reverent Mass. I'm not joking either, that a Latin Mass would do nothing to change the heart and mind of a guy like Fr. Martin. If it fortifies you, I'm all for having them and they should have never been "stamped out" the way they were. But Latin is not "magic" and never was. Part of me is convinced that God allowed for the Latin to be taken away so we could start to remember who we were and who were supposed to be, even if we overreacted.

To me it sounds illogical, confusing the body movements with beliefs. I do the stretches because they help my body, I don't meditate or relate it to any religion, when I relax my mind I cancel all thoughts to help unwind. Just a heads up to those who feel they are moved to comment innocently on posts, think twice. I recently posted a simple comment on how I miss the Latin Masses and that I personally found them more reverent than the Novus Ordo Mass, my PERSONAL opinion. My main comment to this talk was referring to what Father said about receiving our Lord in the Eucharist while in mortal sin and that it needs to be addressed more from the pulpit. That's all!! As you can see from the below comments, everything I said was misunderstood, re-worded and taken out of context. Taught me a lesson to just come quietly to these talks, thank the priest, and keep my personal opinions to myself. What a shame. As we enter into the Lenten season today let us all take this time to pray for each other, the Church, our priests, and pray that our Lord reveal in ALL of us anything that is keeping us from becoming closer to Him. God bless and have a fruitful Lent.

Regarding the question of yoga, the reason Hinduism Today decries the commercialization and separation of hatha yoga from its traditional context is that it debases it and renders it spiritually ineffective. Intention is everything in Hinduism, nothing works ex opere operato. Even with the best intentions and initiation from a guru, a person may struggle with the practices for years and still have no results or effects. Of course many yoga studios mix in all sorts of Eastern and new age teachings into their curriculum and Catholics should avoid those, but the postures in and of themselves are merely physical. Catholics should be cautious, but I believe it to be entirely contextual as to its potential spiritual harm.

So both are equally correct and it's just a matter of personal preference on which one you use.

What really baffles me about this is that we address the priest as 'Father', thereby denoting that it is God the FATHER who gives us His absolution, but when we come out of the Confessional, we speak as if it were Jesus-Christ who pardonned us... I guess this is because God, being transcendant, all three Persons are 'seen' by us 'ad extra' as ONE so we can speak of them 'interchangeably'. Protestants are especially prone to this kind of confusion: they NEVER say things like 'God the FATHER forgave us our sins and bestowed His love (Holy Spirit) upon us': they always say 'Christ died on the Cross for our sins' - it's pretty much as if God the Father DIDN'T even EXIST and had nothing to do with it! Not to mention that this phrase has become so common and overused that it's just irritating 'noise' at this point, devoid of any meaning... If we're going to use 'appropriations', we should do it right - or forget it altogether and simply speak of 'God' when speaking of God 'ad extra'... Correct me if I'm wrong but the reason the second Person took on human flesh and died on a Cross is not 'to forgive us our sins' - that's the Father's prerogative: rather He came to MERIT the Love of the Father for us, since we were radically incapable of doing so. Of course, that's an act of Mercy but I don't see it as 'forgiving our sins', in and of itself... Do I have a blind spot in my heart or something? So, by making a 'promise' to Christ that I will sin no more and by avoiding near occasions of sin, that should suffice? That will probably work for sins against the 6th Commandment but what if I have to put my life on the line? How is this different from having what Natives called a 'Blood-brother'? Is that what Christ is, a 'Blood-brother'? Are we to be made 'Good' simply by giving in to EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL and GUILT TRIPPING? Is that how it works? What about Grace??? How is this not semi-pelagian at best??? Human frailty is the PROBLEM - not the solution!!! Am I expected to thrust myself onto the battlefield, hoping that a sword and shield will be handed down to me from Heaven at the very last moment - isn't that how 'actual' Grace works (by the way, 'actual' Grace was nowhere to be found in the Magisterium until Suarez introduced it in the XVIIth century)? What kind of General would ever ask such an act of 'Faith' - and yet that's exactly what the Church asks of us? Who would even go into battle under such conditions?!? The fact of the matter is that most people simply abandon large swaths of the spiritual battlefield to the Enemy... Without Faith in EFFICACIOUS Grace, we CANNOT be saved (2nd Council of Orange, 531). What if an OMNIPOTENT and OMNISCIENT 'Person' dwelled within you whose sole purpose was TO DO GOOD? If your intentions were pure, wouldn't you simply 'move over' and give that Person the driver's seat??? That's what we're called to do as Christians, for such is the gift of Grace: the indwelling of the Holy Ghost... Satanists are possessed by Satan and Christians are possessed by God. Am I missing anything? Thanks in advance!

We are not praying to a priest. We are coming to the church, confessing our sins. When we sin we hurt the body of Christ and that must be repaired. Would that have stopped when the apostles died!? No!

  • @jero4733
    @jero47336 жыл бұрын

Question: "What does the Bible say about confession of sin to a priest?" Answer: The concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. First, the New Testament does not teach that there are to be priests in the New Covenant. Instead, the New Testament teaches that all believers are priests. First Peter 2:5-9 describes believers as a “holy priesthood” and a “royal priesthood.” Revelation 1:6 and 5:10 both describe believers as “a kingdom of priests.” In the Old Covenant, the faithful had to approach God through the priests. The priests were mediators between the people and God. The priests offered sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. That is no longer necessary. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we can now approach God’s throne with boldness (Hebrews 4:16). The temple veil tearing in two at Jesus’ death was symbolic of the dividing wall between God and humanity being destroyed. We can approach God directly, ourselves, without the use of a human mediator. Why? Because Jesus Christ is our great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-15; 10:21) and the only mediator between us and God (1 Timothy 2:5). The New Testament teaches that there are to be elders (1 Timothy 3), deacons (1 Timothy 3), bishops (Titus 1:6-9), and pastors (Ephesians 4:11) - but not priests. When it comes to confession of sin, believers are told in 1 John 1:9 to confess their sins to God. God is faithful and just to forgive our sins as we confess them to Him. James 5:16 speaks of confessing our trespasses “to one another,” but this is not the same as confessing sins to a priest as the Roman Catholic Church teaches. Priests / church leaders are nowhere mentioned in the context of James 5:16. Further, James 5:16 does not link forgiveness of sins with the confession of sins “to one another.” The Roman Catholic Church bases their practice of confession to a priest primarily on Catholic tradition. Catholics do point to John 20:23, “If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” From this verse, Catholics claim that God gave the apostles the authority to forgive sins and that authority was passed on to the successors of the apostles, i.e., the bishops and priests of the Roman Catholic Church. There are several problems with this interpretation. (1) John 20:23 nowhere mentions confession of sin. (2) John 20:23 nowhere promises or even hints that apostolic authority of any kind would be passed on to the successors of the apostles. (3) The apostles never once in the New Testament acted as if they had the authority to forgive a person’s sin. Similarly, Catholics point to Matthew 16:19 and 18:18 (binding and loosing) as evidence for the Catholic Church’s authority to forgive sins. The same three above points apply equally to these Scriptures. The ability to forgive sins is God’s and His alone (Isaiah 43:25). The better understanding of John 20:23 is that the apostles were given the responsibility of declaring with utmost certainty the terms on which God would forgive sins. As the church was being founded, the apostles declared that those who believed the gospel were forgiven (Acts 16:31) and those who did not obey the gospel faced judgment (2 Thessalonians 1:8; 1 Peter 4:17). As the apostles proclaimed salvation in Christ (Acts 10:43) and exercised church discipline (1 Corinthians 5:4-5), they were wielding the authority Christ had given them. Again, the concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. We are to confess our sins to God (1 John 1:9). As New Covenant believers, we do not need mediators between us and God. We can go to God directly because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. First Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Jesus founded a Church. 12 is the number of authority -- 12 tribes, 12 judges, 12 apostles. And He told Peter that he was the rock (Petros) on which He would build his Church. Furthermore, He gave him the keys to the kingdom and said explicitly, "whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them, and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained." In Acts you can read about the laying on of hands by which the priestly functions have been passed down. Early Christians confessed their sins publicly (glad we don't do that anymore!). When the people gathered together, there was liturgy involved and a belief that the bread and wine became Jesus' body and blood. Notice that Paul talks about receiving the body of the Lord unworthily.

It simply says if we confess our sins then God will forgive us. *To whom* we are to confess the sins is not made explicit. 2) You stated that God is the only being who can forgive sins immediately after you referenced the fact that Jesus granted the apostles’ authority to forgive sins. So, evidently, you’re wrong on that point.

When you made a mistake as a child, did you apologize to your parents or siblings? Why would you have done that if you could just ask God for forgiveness in the privacy of your room? You did it to make amends. The sacrament is Christ instituted. I am sorry you do not have eyes to see.

@@76katster You're confused.. Priest is not His minister, as you say: 1) Priest is His servant! 2) Priest doesn't represent any Church: Priests and US is the Church: Together! In one body. I'm adking you again: When you you've been in Court before the Judge, is there any wall between? No! Have you any idea what happened in Paradise after the Sin; God is asking from Adam and Eve to come in front of Him: He protests: Why you've been hiding?? Bible is my martyr. And when Bible talks, we don't need any other human testimony😉
