    I am converting to Catholicism; I am completely intimidated by confessing a lifetime of sin. Can I even recognize it all? God worked through me, this sinner, with such grace-- as both a social worker and a Pastoral Clinical Counselor. I trust my will to convert. I look forward to my very first confession. I appreciate your distinction between regret and contrition--and this state of recounting our sin, with great regret, as something God has allowed so we can be contrite and seek sincere redemption). I seek redemption. However, I am still quite nervous about "doing confession wrong." Thank you for this tutorial, Father Pine. The act of contrition you provide is nice to have. Thank you. Peace

    It can be hard the first time. Just be honest, to the point, and I felt a great sense of relief and weight lifted off of me instantly. Then every week after, you shouldn't have much to confess, as that's the entire point of confession, to reflect on your sins and learn not to repeat them. Yes, we are all human, and WILL have sins, but a weekly confession should teach us not to keep repeating the same sins over and over, and teach us to be better people.

  • @meme-sb7vr
    @meme-sb7vr10 ай бұрын

    The more frequently you go, the easier and more complete the confession is as you become more aware of your faults and sins. Also, the priest is there in persona Christi meaning you are actually in the presence of Christ Himself (who already knows everything about you) fear not, His love and mercy knows no bounds!!!

    @@AveMaria1917do not be. Remember that St Theresa of Avila called herself and the human race “loathe some worms” not out of hate or disdain, but out of humility. Remember St Padre Pio was known to be blunt and chastise people, telling them to get out of the confessional and come back when they had examined their conscience. We aren’t babies, we are adults in a life and death spiritual struggle, and we don’t have to be so informal as self deprecating at St Theresa or as the above comments, but there is nothing wrong with being that way sometimes in the right context with the right spirit about it. Some people are nerdy. Others are more like jocks or hippies, know what you are because it reveals your talents and gifts and can help you discern what God wants you to be.

    I have never heard an explanation of confession. I am a convert and I realise all these years later how little preparation to be received into the was actually given by the priest who prepared me. I am 89 in a country that it is difficult to find Mass and the church I attended used the confessional as a storage area. Americans do not think you are being deprived of access to the TLM have no idea what it is like in other countries Pray for us.

    Yes, I would regularly be given the "dressing down" of a life time and a little hint that "don't you think because you came to confession your sins are forgotten...they are not" which is true, I will have to show everyone at the Judgement all my sins, but did you have to kick me while I was down too? well, I guess that's nothing compared to Christ dying on the cross for my sins...but, damn, I felt so sick after my last confession, I puked in the parking lot

The Sacrament of Confession is much more helpful every 2'weeks, if spiritual progress is not to be impeded/ delayed And Communion on Sundays+ Would be wonderful to receive Communion at daily mass - and those who still are able to get to a Mass daily ....would benefit greatly to do so.💐🙏✨ Btw: as a former smoker: I needed 15 YEARS of efforts to finally arrive at self-identifying as a non-smoker What makes quitting difficult: Over 100 pleasurable elements are mixed in with dozens of poisons, a few examples: Sugar, Chocolate, Orange flavoring Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, Lavender, Strawberry flavor... ALL of the hundreds of poisonous chemicals & pleasurable nutritional/ flavorable features woven into cigarettes used to be listed on the Philipp Morris Website (20 years ago) Anyone working at getting free of any addiction: Holy God will help you If you do not give up+💖

    While I had exactly the same reaction as Fr. Mike regarding a flood of tears (even sobs) that I had to stifle so as not to disturb the others in the small theater, I disagree with his critique that it lacked explicit "God" references. I felt God's presence enormously. I am reminded that "naming You is all in vain." God is the unnanable. As beautifully shown in Exodus when Moses cries out "show me your face." God puts him in the cleft of the rock, covers him with His hand and passes by so Moses can only see him from behind. This is more, I think, our experience of God. We understand afterwards what has happened to us. I felt God's presence fully and quietly throughout the movie and as such was overwhelmed with emotion and tears. Explicit God references MAY have defeated the movie's impact on the unchurched or even nonbelievers. For the believer, for the Catholic, I contend that the movie clearly showed God's presence in Cabrini's life.

    Strange. Perhaps borne out of busyness or unwillingness to pend the time

    It’s due to busyness. Our parish has a minimum of 15,000 people or 7000 families. Confession is offered 3x week & appointments as needed.

    What I hate is going into a confessional to find it fully lit with the priest behind a transparent screen and nothing but a comfortable chair to sit on instead of a kneeler..all anonymity is gone and that does not make me feel like I can be truly open and honest about my sins..I don't go to confession to have a friendly chat with a priest, it's a real put off to me.

    I had not been to confessio for a long time and I had spent a month trying to find a Church that heard confessions. I finally found church and I waited my turn. There were two doors, I saw the priest enter one door and I went through the other door. I was struck dumb. It was an open room with two chairs. I could not utter a word. Father gave me absolution but I had not made a confession. I feel as though the Church has let the faithful down in the second Vatican Council, I feel lost as I live at least 40K from the nearest Catholic Church. Pray for the faithful Priests who are being cast aside.

    @@joan5856 I agree...luckily I have other options so I can avoid the churches that have turned confession into a farce. I'll pray for you, God bless.

    ST. TERESA OF LISIEUX: “It is not because I have been preserved from serious sin that I lift up my heart to God in trust and love. I am certain that even if I had on my conscience every imaginable sin, I should lose nothing of my confidence, but would throw myself, my heart broken with sorrow, into the arms of my Savior.”

    I went to confession after about 50 years this past Christmas. I had to do it face time face and I freaked out. The whole experience was a letdown. Patrick Madrid was hoping it would have been handled better. There are certain big sins I have on my mind that I want to verbalize. Is that stupid?
