TINY RIVER - CREEK FISHING - LOTS OF FISH! (Video 116)

Спорт

You join me fishing a tiny, neglected waterway, out for the afternoon employing my favourite tactic link ledgering, using the Drennan mini feeder rod, trying a multitude of contrasting swims and finding some most beautiful fish in a forthcoming mood.

    Now this is fishing. Hi Mark, fished since I was 10 year old but neglected the hobbie for the past few year.. Me uncle recently asked if I'd like to come on an overnighter at the local river he's been fishing while on furlough.. I know the river, but being out of the game a few year I thought I'd brush up on abita knowledge. After discarding the commercial garbage, I came across your channel and was immediately hooked. The Barbel fishing with your fatha was the 1st video, which was followed by a fair few more. Love your enthusiasm for the sport and genuine love for the discipline. I've never caught, or fished for a barbel.. but your videos are encouraging me more and more to achieve that goal. Good on ya mate. I've been a KZreadr for a while and know the amount of effort taken to make videos. Happily subbed and will thumb up every video, because I learn something new and appreciate the knowledge you share. Tight lines bud. Luke

    Mark and Mike are right, these waterways are hidden gems. I live 5 mins away from a tributary of a much larger river, I've been fishing it for a decade or so and over that time I've pulled out quite a few crackers. These little rivers are perfect because they are overlooked. Some Dog walkers i come across don't (for some reason) want to believe that there are fish in there and that's just fine with me, don't want any poachers coming in and taking out all the good ones. These rivers need to be respected and protected, don't overfish them and be extremely gentle with what you catch, Mark you set a perfect example. Also, I believe these rivers have such good stocks because the top predator (atleast in my stretch) is the trout, not pike. But as soon as the cormorants and otters come in, it really does have a devastating effect on its eco system. Well done mark for uncovering these waterways and enlightening people on just how good these rivers are, keep it up!

    Always amazed to see such fish in a tiny creek Mark! Here we do have that kind of creeks and brooks but you would find stickelbacks and minnows in it, sometimes a couple of roach and an odd chublet but certainly not the stamp of fish you found in your waterway. Incredible!

    I used to fish the Kennet, around Ufton Nervet about 1989, when i moved from West London to live with my then girlfriend, in Reading. A lovely time, big mistake moving back. But since then the Worlds a nastier place. Even there, was the train crash when a chef parked his car across the level crossing, with the train, ploughing into it, killing 3 i believe. Then more recently, the young copper being killed by the diddies, just down the road. Anyway nice little vids, keep it up. PS, i caught a nice tench there, surprisingly fantastic fight, for a fish not used to being in, a normally fast flowing river.

    Another great video Mark. I'd just like to echo what you've been saying about not dismissing these small waterways and urging people to get out there and uncover these hidden gems. My local river Mole was hit with pollution this week and I went down to visit the EA clear up operation out of interest to see what was going on. It's not too dissimilar to the river you fished on this episode, really intimate and small with you being able to jump across most of it. I could not believe the size of some of the fish they were pulling out dead! The chub stocks were incredible, dozens and dozens of 4lb plus fish all the way up to 6s! All the carp, pike, bream, gudgeon, dace etc all gone as well as big perch to 4lb and barbel to 15lb which I never knew were even in the stretch! Was heartbreaking to see and I feel absolutely gutted I never gave the stretch the attention it deserved before its been decimated. If I'd have known fish like that were residing in a small stream literally a 10 minute walk from my front door I think I'd have been down there every evening ! So for anyone who's out there, like Mark says, you need to do a little bit of groundwork and make the most of these waterways and not overlook them like I have done !

    Mike firstly can I just say thank you for the kind words and secondly agree wholeheartedly with you regarding our smaller waterways, especially those that are neglected, it would help to have a few more eyes and ears out there to be bankside at times to report such pollution incidents and perhaps save a few more fish in doing so. I saw your pictures and video clips on instagram Mike, gutting does not sum it up, devastating and a tragedy, the fines need to be much much more heavier for the culprits.

    As much as I love fishing the Nene,these small brooks and streams are where my heart lies. It`s a place similar to that,where I learnt to fish as a kid and would spend hours wandering up and down,searching for fish holding areas. Now that winter is approaching,bankside vegetation will be dying off and weed will be going the same way,allowing me better access to my old haunts and new promising areas too.one other way to discover these waterways etc... is by visiting your local library and taking a look at their map book section. My local library has a rather healthy selection of ordanance survey maps and road atlas` ,that show public rights of way etc... making access to water ways a lot easier.Take a pen and paper to copy/right stuff down or photo copy stuff.......simples !!!Smashing video as allways and a 5lbs chub from a small waterway like that,is a bloomin fantastic fish .

    Thanks Nick, I wholeheartedly agree with you and for myself searching along these capillary waterways fills me with a sense of wonder and untold enchantment that I'll certainly never tire of, dropping into likely looking, fish holding zones, areas with slight variances in depth or other fish holding features, they are beautiful and hold so much for us anglers to enjoy, which is why I went into detail regarding the online map functions available to us in the shape of google maps and bing maps. I am hopeful these videos will tempt other chaps to go out and do the same, for there is so many bloodline waterways out there that are less obvious, usually disregarded/overlooked, yet offer so much to an angler with a keen eye, or inquisitive mindset.

What is your most favourite fish of all if you was pushed too chose one?

    Hello there Andrew thank you for taking the time to watch the videos and for subscribing, also cheers for the message via instagram it is good to hear from you. To answer your first question regarding my uk pb, you don't mention what species? for barbel it is 15.6, chub i have many different personal bests based on each different venue, venue bests if you like, but my overall chub pb is 8lb from the Thames caught many many years ago, way before I started making youtube videos sadly. My favourite fish gosh that's a tough one! I like many, but if pushed I'd say Chub are up there for me.

    also about the colouration of the perch... i thought the colour variation in predatory fish occurred when they were in murky water going more light and colourless, i notice it most in commercial carp venues where the perch are in very murky water they almost lose all colour.

  • @francolinobasco

    @francolinobasco

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hello mate, yes much like Tench in weedy waters they do adapt in colouration, however that is the thing,this is not an overly murky waterway in fact the river bed is quite heavy in gravel in places and it runs fairly clear on a whole unless there has been heavy rain, despite this fact it seems to contain darker marked as well as more limey green perch. Which is interesting, in relation to this the Blackwater which I fish mainly throws up a more vividely marked variety and less lime green of the species.

    Hi Mark. I'm just taking in my daily FFM's back track and what a superb 30 mins. I adore wild brooks and streams that rarely see a rod yet hold an abundance of species, many of of which are real beauties. Is this Brook a club water or is it a case of asking the land owner? I ask as in my locality there are plenty of similar streams running between the two main rivers and a number of old mill streams that cross the area, none of which seem to be club controlled yet someone must be maintaining the banks ect EA I guess? I have often drifted on to them while out fishing the main rivers and have never been challenged. Any advice would be gratefully received👍😊. Ps I still have a Silstar rear drag reel I use as my heavy line feeder reel. It cost me about £6.00 in 1994 and still works like a dream having never let me down once. Every now and then I gently tighten any loose screews, remove the spool, give it a good wipe out and a couple of tiny drops of oil and it runs as smoothly and as quietly as when it was new.

    Hello there Michael and thank you for the question, glad you enjoyed the video. In answer to your question on this particular occasion no, spots were fished or fed and fished at the same time. However yes sometimes during a trip I will trickle some free offerings into likely looking swims and then allow the fish to gain some confidence before then fishing those swims. So generally I normally do a bit of both.

  • @francolinobasco

    @francolinobasco

    4 жыл бұрын

    I generally try fishing more than swim and looking for the fish as on some of my rivers they are also riddled with crayfish and sticking in one swim where and when the crayfish are active can sometimes mean that the fish are not pushing them out the way at the time, I don't do anything that different to what you've seen in this video really and at times using worms on crayfish infested rivers can be the stuff of nightmares.

    I'm happy to try and help spf. The rod I am using in this video is the "Drennan ultra light mini feeder" and perfect for these smaller waterways, allowing you to get into many small swims that you just would not be able to with a longer rod. However if you wanted a more economical rod then may I suggest the "avanti Airstream feeder rod" these can be purchased in a 9 foot length, come with two different quiver tips and usually retail online at around £16.
