Pike Fishing on a small River in winter - Was This Dog Madness?! (Video 249)

Спорт

Polite Notice - This Video was filmed before the commencement of the current river close season.
You join Mark on a two fishing trip video as he heads out casting around with some dead baits after pike on a small river, using the little Rvs Ambus Rod. Finding a few fish willing to feed and hopefully put a bend in the little 7 foot rod. Would the endless amounts of dog walkers and off camera issues with them mean a tough trip in the second part of the video? Probably!
Please be aware I do tell a dog where to go during the second half of this video, but off camera I had far too many negative encounters with poorly controlled dogs.

    Totally sympathise regarding the dogs Mark, just the other day had a couple throw sticks out in front of me for their two dogs to retrieve, even though I was plainly visible - in fact they even threw the sticks over me! I gave them some rather non-complimentary dialogue and eventually they departed but the fishing was done. Some great results there, you are quite the all-rounder!

    Thanks Frank and it happens too often,I don't know about in your country but here due a certain virus, we had many new dog owners during i/ because of it who seemed to think ownership of a dog is about letting them run riot and invade,doing whatever they like without any control.

    *"Rover's Only Playing"* Yep, not only is it unfair on the part of those minority of dog walkers that allow their dog to jump in where an angler is fishing, it is *downright irresponsible for the safety of their dog.* I have taken to saying *_"I'm legitimately using very sharp hooks here!_*_ Then suddenly the _"Rover's only playing"_ attitude changes to one of sudden urgency to get their dog out and inspect him all over for hooks. It's a darn good one-liner, to re-educate those irresponsible few.

    Yep. That section is a no go for me any weekend dog walkers just don’t care. I’ve had dogs jumping in when lure fishing then owners saying ‘you don’t own the river’. The erosion on the banks from dogs going in is something else as well.

    Cheers Bailey and yes they simply don't care, very irresponsible. Near the end of the video as I was sat down to have a drink and bite to eat I had that breed from Tom hanks film Turner and Hooch approach me off the lead growling and snarling coming up to me, two women mother and daughter "oh dont worry she's alright!" was she fk.. As they're walked off she came back at me for a second go. Now I'm fairly confident around dogs but some breeds you're not going to stand a good chance with if they're out of control, especially if you're sat at ground level and in a weak starting position, this was one such breed. Now factor in that it was two women with light builds supposedly going to be able to control that dog? No chance.

    I love my wildlife, am a keen birder and twitcher (6 hour drive to see a 12 second view of a bird then 6 hours home - daft, and years ago, couldn't afford to do that now) , but I love my angling as well. I wonder how much litter the 'anti-angling' lot collect as they wander about? As John on The Fish Locker says, Take 5. When you go out, if you can take 5 pieces of litter away it's 5 pieces that aren't going to do any more damage. Top vid as usual Mark. Has anyone ever caught a dog whilst fishing?

  • @francolinobasco

    Very much agree with your sentiment there and especially the same for litter. I regularly litter pick places and clear up others litter, because I know if i ignore it then in many ways it makes me nearly as bad as those whom have littered.

    I've been exceptionally annoyed with dogs on that stretch, the owners give zero care about anyone except their mutts

  • @Beesa10
    @Beesa10 Жыл бұрын

    I have to contend with dogs, joggers and the local rowing club which can be frustrating at times. I've come to the conclusion that the fish are used to activity, at least to a point and I try to do my fishing in a considerate way eg stay alert, move my lines away from oars, keep hooks and bait away from passers by and their dogs. The fact dogs have such keen noses means they invariably go straight to your bait tub, net, sandwich bag etc. I made the mistake of attempting to open air dry a batch of freshly made seafood boilies on the bank before which turned out to be a predictably disastrous method. Unfortunately many dog owners let their dog off the lead and then have next to zero control.

  • @francolinobasco

    @francolinobasco

    Жыл бұрын

    Agree with you. Not only do some dog owners do that but then the dogs that are then off the lead take advantage of those which are under control and on a lead.

    @@francolinobasco One of the more severe dog/ owner encounters I experienced whilst fishing was when a drunk bloke took issue with me & my lines being in the water, threw a ball in right in front of me, which his dog followed naturally. He had a go at me along the lines of 'you think you own this place', then when I responded along the lines of 'mate, it's okay to share this place' he actually jumped in the water as well and then hugged his dog in the water for quite a while possibly because he felt a bit foolish.

    well done mark some smashing pike and that chub getting in on the act ,pike can live to 80 years old so the size of yours could be 20 years old to 60 ,,,,,, on dogs,,,i was fishing on a lake many years ago and a dog ate all my luncheon meat,all of it,, the dog was with an angler on the other side so i walked the greedy small dog to its owner who did apologise i came back to my swim and two swans had eaten all my maggots and sweetcorn ,i was not happy ,a few weeks latter i saw the same angler i said hello and he moaned at me for letting his dog eat my bait i thought this guy is thick,, i let his dog eat my bait i ask you... any way,,,the dog was not their he went on his dog spewed up in his car and had the runs in the house,and the dog was banned from fishing by his wife,,,,,,made my day natural justice well mark great video and until your next adventure on the bank tight lines..

I ALWAYS TELL THE DO YOU BUY A LICENSE , to go to waterways and enjoy there nature and do you pay for the fish to be restocked after pollution or over predation ect ,, the answer is always an excuse, at this point I tell them my bto work and to piss off and educate themselves, makes me happy the last bit 😊.
