Not only are Jimmy Neutron's parents more caring and nurturing, but they actually have more charisma than Timmy's parents, especially when revisiting as an adult. It's amazing how Timmy coped with all this and how he has fairies pretty much exclusively due to his parents' negligence about him.

yeah, they are awesome. most parents in media only exist as a plot device, to cause problems for the protagonists. how often have the kids to hide their powers/identity/magical pets/instertplotdevicehere from them, to avoid getting grounded and being unable to save the world because of this? On the other end of the spectrum are parents that completely ignore the premise of the show, and act like everything is normal, while their child fights giant monsters and almost dies all the time. the neutrons are perfectly reasonable parents. they know, their child is a genius, and are supportive, but also scold him, when he does something wrong. they use the gadgets he makes for them, even though it keeps costing them toasters, but demand that he is in bed, if its a school night, and are not fooled for long by the jimmy android that says nice things.

There were worse episodes. Remember the time his parents were just sitting in the car in the driveway while Vicky was with Timmy? "You hungry yet?" "No!"

His parents were so trash They had a chance of redemption in channel chaser, but it was stripped away because Timmy wanted to keep cosmo and wanda longer

Even then, what *COULD* have happened - and we somewhat see this in the Magic Muffin movie - They could've had their redemption, fire Vicky, but it's a SLOW redemption. Step 1 in the right direction: Fire Vicky, but the flip side of the coin, is the new babysitter is Helga's mom (Always buzzed from smoothies, doesn't care if Timmy runs in the street for hours). Just a One Step Forward three steps back. That way, Timmy could still keep Cosmo and Wanda but his parents wouldn't be teetering on the edge of CPS being called.

To be fair, between having neglectful parents actually giving a crap, which might not last forever and they might go back to neglectful for entirely different reasons which might not even be intentional, and keeping the two people who genuinely give two hoots about my well being in my life and have cared from the start, I'd keep the godparents too. Like, magic be damned, I'd just rather stay with the ones that I care and that care for me, instead of having to cope with them being gone and learning how to deal with the ones who ignored me actually caring for once. Kids like and need stability, having a consistent caring caretaker figure is important for development.

My Dad had an abusive childhood, but still managed to break away from it to love and raise me right. The stories he told me when I was old enough have made child abuse and neglect a berserk-button topic for me, so even as a kid I despised the Turners, Vicky, and any other abusive parent figure in fiction.

Looking back at it now, I think Timmy does forgive and loves his parents but does not trust them enough to let Cosmo and Wanda go. It’s really sad how the chronic neglect undermined that trust. The best kinds of people that can keep a secret, especially something as big as fairy godparents, are the ones that have trust issues.

I find it kinda cool that Timmy learned about babies without being disgusted…. Of course the machine is totally an older topic…

Mr. and Mrs. Turner are literally unrecognizable in the later seasons. They become not only neglectful but verbally abusive towards their son and unlike in the first two seasons, he had became their burden not their most important thing in the entire world. This sort of episode would have had Family Guy level of sociopathy in Season 6-finale with the Turners actually being too selfish to give up their powers.

@DuskTillShawn Chester certainly _deserved_ a fairy godparent, but he did not necessarily _need_ one. Remember, _Da Rules_ say that only kids who are miserable and truly need help get assigned fairy godparents. Conversely, Chester, despite being poor as heck, was rather happy-go-lucky. He was much happier overall than Timmy ever was. Therefore, the Fairy Council must’ve reviewed Chester and concluded that he wasn’t necessarily miserable enough to need or deserve a fairy godparent.

There were two scenarios where Chester did have fairy godparents: In Fairy Idol he gets Norm the Genie(now a fairy) then his good intentioned wishes actually make things worse for the world. Then in the the infamous 'It's a Wishful Life' Chester gets Cosmo and Wanda as his fairies and I'm guess this time his pure hearted wishes work out cos they were there to guide him instead of leaving him to figure it out on his own like Norm did.

While they're not the best parents, you can't say they don't love Timmy. They gave up powers to save Timmy here, his dad made him a bike, his dad didn't let him ride in the Striker Z because it was a screaming metal death trap, they fought a sewer gator to save him. Things like this make it hard for me to say they're the worst given that's it's shown how much they actually care about him, despite their oblivious natures. There are FAR worse parents in the real world.

Also, note dad saying "no time for Timmy, must make world safe for Timmy" while they did get on the hero thing for fun, (or because they felt it was the right thing to do since they had superpowers), there was at least some sentiment of doing it to keep Timmy safe. They did care, and we'll... Between death by meteor or more Vicky time, one feels that dad made the right call then.

I mostly blame the writers for the inconsistent changes in their personality. Not the best cartoon parents, but not the worst either (again in the few few seasons.)

It's really ambivalent. In real life, it's probably easier to forgive but it'll take some healing.

It's funny how the Abra-catastrophe movie shows that at least Timmy's Dad wanted to spend every second with Timmy before Vicky came in their lives.

In defense of this episode (and the first seasons) however is that Timmy's parents are not really smart so most of the times they are more naive to understand how their son is suffering, but they did care for him in many occasion (like the times when they actually protected him or when they finally understood how Vicky was mistreating him). It's in the later seasons they just got flandarized to the point that they literally don't even hide the idea of wanting to stay away from him on purpose making them pure awful

I'm a childhood trauma survivor and a lot of the people in my support forums said Fairly Odd Parents was a comfort show because it involved getting surrogate parents that whisked you away from how horrible your life was. Retrospectively, DAMN that makes sense because his parents are the worst.

I think the reason they don't question Timmy knowing they had powers is because of the Timmy doll. They saw that Galactimus had "Timmy" hostage, and when Cosmo pulled the pull string, the doll says "I love you mom. Give up your powers. I love you dad. Give up your powers." So it probably made them think that Galactimus revealed to "Timmy" that his parents were the superheroes running around in Dimsdale. I'm probably over thinking something as minor as this, but I guess it tends to happen when it comes to the shows I like.

Fun, canonical facts: 1. Timmy has had Lazer vision since episode one. He just forgets he has it. 2. Timmy's dad's real name is Mom, and his mom's real name is Barnaby 3. Male fairies are the ones who give birth

You forget that episode completely retcons the end of “Channel Chasers.” Remember, the fact that Timmy has Vicki for a babysitter, is the very reason Timmy got assigned Cosmo and Wanda in the first place.

Looking back, I can't recall any significant moments Timmy had with either parent. No special bonding with his dad, no fun day out with mom. Just brief moments spent with his parents saying goodbye before going off to do other things. I honestly don't think Timmy's parents know any of his favorite things, what his dreams are, and I doubt he knows much about his parents . Timmy probably grows up and doesn't keep in touch with his parents because he realized he wasn't important enough for them to get to know. That's bound to leave a kid with serious issues later. His own parents barely have any time for him and when they ARE with him, they still hardly give him any kind of positive attention. Cosmo and Wanda are the ones who get the meaningful moments, who have the tough conversations, who actually try. Timmy's parents shelter and provide for him but they aren't really there for him in any other way. A good parent would figure out Vicky isn't a good babysitter.

There were some in early seasons. (The bike-a-thon, Timmy runs away, the picnic contest day his scout troop did) Back then they did seem to genuinely love him they just had really demanding jobs and could not afford to spend much time at home during the week.

Cosmo and Wanda are the two best intelligent life forms in Timmy‘s life, but _Da Rules_ say that when a kid grows up, not only do they lose their fairy godparent(s) forever, but they also forget that they ever had them in the first place. Forgetting having ever had Cosmo and Wanda probably has to be the brutalist thing to ever happen to Timmy in the future.

I find it interesting that Timmy’s parents still seem to care about him even when they’re neglecting him. They’re overworked so they can provide for him, and when they’re superheroes, they’re fighting crime to make the world safer for him. And then of course they give up their powers when they think that’s the only way to save him. The desire to be good parents is there, but they just seem to be focusing too broadly on how to achieve that goal.

The reason Chester never got fairy godparents is because he's very optimistic about being poor and it actually looks like he likes eating from the trash.the getting fairys thing looks to be a quality over quantity thing especially since I noticed it seems to be also that way via versa considering tons of people say the reason chloe got fairys is so silly

I think Helga's parents are the worst. Timmy's parents have negligent but they're mostly criminally dumb and have cared for Timmy at times but I think Helga's parents take the cake for worst parents. Also what about the parents on Rugrats

The Turners are definitely bad parents, they never wanna spend time with their only child and only wanted a daughter. Plus, they even put him in a doggy cage so they can put their surf boards on their flight seats, and always forces him to they’re chores while they’ll doing something dumb or something stupid

I used to think Timmy’s dad was a normal guy when I watched the Oh Yeah Cartoons version. That sure changed, especially in the beauty pageant episode.

Even with the whole "leaving Timmy with an evil babysitter" his mom and dad aren't exactly the best parents. But the show has shown before that they do love him

They sucked. Cosmo and Wanda had their flaws, (Cosmo being a dunce, Wanda being often too dismissive of Timmy. I get that he needed a saner voice, but there's a line between that and too readily being contrarian.) but they were ultimately better for him. Juandisimo I think deep down truly DID care for Remy, but like with Cosmo and Wanda, had his issues (being a LITTLE too into himself) And Jorgen's just a power tripping brute. Not only does the fairy system need work (as shown with Chloe in Season 10 as well), I blame him for dooming Fairy World to the threat Crocker poses. Back to his parents. It's like a certain someone once said, Power doesn't change who you are, it reveals it.

When i worked fulltime as an EMT i had no life outside of that. I wanted to help people but realized i was failing my daughter in turn. Now im able to spend tons of time with her, and i appreciate every moment. I had horrible parents and honestly it never even clicked how bad they were as a child. By comparison they were still better than my parents so i never realized just how bad they were. As an adult it makes me sad for a multitude of reasons to be frank.

I always thought that this should have been the first episode. Introducing Timmy and his parents and how they're always busy and neglect him. And then he gets very odd parents. And then he wishes for his parents to have way more time with him and for his life to be better. And that should just be the whole show. But no, we like seeing Timmy suffer apparently.

Fun fact: Timmy’s Parents and Godparents are voiced by the same people. So you argue that cosmo and wanda are the ideal versions of his parents, also it’s really funny when the two sets meet each other. And yes wanda and mom are the same voice talk about range 😂

idk if this was pointed out anywhere, but! In regards to the super hero references, the Wonder Twin reference where Dad changes into a bucket of water might also be referring to a clip from Cartoon Network where Zan and Jayna are talking about their powers and Zan changes into a bucket of ice water then starts complaining about how he's always something lame like a wave or a sheet of ice and Jayna is always something cool like a tiger or a gorilla. Which is kind of a deep cut and I love it, lol

Erm I dunno about that. Peter is physically abusive. Say what you will about the Turner's, but I don't recall them ever hitting Timmy.

I’d love an ep where Timmy’s grown up & has become even more financially successful than his parents but outright disowns them without giving them a cent, while exposing Vicky’s abusive behaviour with film footage he had his Fairy Godparents record as a kid, putting her behind bars for child abuse (or at least have her put on the most humiliating kind of community service). Can you imagine the pure unadulterated CATHARSIS?! 😌

First of all, I love the nod to the wonder twins that they had, even sticking to the fact that the guy used to always transform into something pertaining to water, that was actually really awesome, but as far as the overall plot point of the neglect of his parents, Taken by itself removing the absurdity of a lot of the other episodes, where they just got flanderized, this truly is heartbreaking if you think about it, but in their own way, they actually thought they were doing what was best.

@@AllaBethony i'm kind of surprised they actually referenced them to begin with, but I guess it was early enough that the audience would've actually gotten such a reference. If they tried it in a modern episode, I don't think the audience would actually get the reference.

Y'know the episodes where Timmy sees them walk out and leave Vicky in charge, those kinda have to be set on the weekends/summer season right? Sometimes he does be coming home to Vicky being there and others they show how little they care about him in person, but there's a timeline here not fully shown. We can presume they work from 8-4 probably since they see him off to school before leaving themselves, and assuming the bus arrives for him around 7-7:30. To my knowledge (It's been a decade) it is implied they are home usually, only hiring Vicky on the weekends or when they want to go do something which is what causes the episode to be worth viewing. It is a children's show so were not gonna see boring nights where they just ignore him unless it's in the context of Timmy leaving and doing something else while they ignore him.

I don’t see Timmy’s parents as neglectful as there are times when they care, but this particular episode shows off how demanding his parent’s jobs are. It seems more that they are too busy to have time for their son because they want to provide him with a happy home and food on the table.

also it feels like most of the comments missed the point of the show as a whole that timmys are parents are supposed to suck he wouldn't have fairies and there would be no show if he had good parents. Also it's true they do neglect him there is an ep where he wished to never be born and when his parents had the girl they wanted they treated her better.

Agree with everything. At least it was that way in the earlier seasons, where they were more naive and just needed to learn. They are also unaware that Vicky is evil and as shown in Channel Chasers they would fire her if they found out. They are better parents than Ned Fenders parents and all the parents in Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory because they are not extreme doormats and do discipline Timmy. Some parents in real life are extreme doormats and spoil there kids rotten, but yet have the nerve to complain about there kids to others.

i never realized before that the measurement fairies seem to use in terms of who gets one and who doesn't is related to whether or not the child has a viable support system to guide them in life, oh my god. framed like that, the logic of who gets fairies makes a lot more sense, and explains why it's often little sh*ts with no other moral guidance getting them too i think my fave part of the where do babies come from joke is that right before it timmy explicitly states he has half an hour until he needs to head out. what was the full half hour explanation that led to that kind of question?!

My friend said she loved this show because…..that’s how her parents were 😳🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩And that show used to make me SO uncomfortable

One of the things that make this episode work so well for me is that, when you look at the motives behind their actions, no one is really in the wrong here. Timmy granting his parents powers may technically come from a place of selfishness, but you could tell that he also wanted to make their lives better too. Timmy's Parents not having time for him was completely out of their control and once their powers gave them the time to spend with him, they sat down and just talked untill the bus came to take Timmy to school. It wasnt even a joke of his parents forcing him through a topic he didnt care about or was disturbed by, he seemed genuinely happy to have just spent time with them. Then, when they stop spending time with him, its because these new powers give them even greater responsibilities that take up their time, even if they want to spend time with him. Timmy's dad even says: "I dont have time for Timmy, Im trying to make the world safe for Timmy!" Showing that, despite his absence, everything he is doing, he is doing for his son first and foremost.

I was always waiting for Timmy's parents to leave so he could be with his fairy parents who, while are trained to BE parental figures to all the kids they are assigned to, we know that they love Timmy the MOST out of all the kids they've watched over, as seen in the episode where Timmy explores their fishbowl castle house. Whereas yes, Timmy Parents can be loving, the fact that it is rarely shown and how they just kinda jump at the chance to do anything away from their son instead of, going out to dinner with him, or staying home and watching movies, playing games he likes, just taking an interest in what he likes and being there when they can, it's rough to watch. You did a great job going over this episode.

As a kid, this is funny. But as an adult, this just feels like a big slap-in-the-face I mean I love the show and even if they have some redeeming moments, Timmy’s mom and dad are the prime example of what every good parent should NEVER be

Same. It always bothered me as a kid that the "T" was on the helmet and suit when the name started with "G".

The major issue with Timmy’s parents was that they didn’t want children. From what I could tell, Timmy’s parents were hippies on the road when they found out the mom was pregnant. The dad quickly managed to get an office job with good pay and bought them a house. They wanted to have a girl and went crazy buying things for a baby girl, and were brutally disappointed when they had a boy. As we saw in an alternate timeline when Timmy wishes he had never been born, had they had a girl, Sophia would have been treasured and raised with great love and care. She would then repay that love by sharing her wealth with her parents. Wealth that she attained in writing, acting, and directing in Hollywood. This shows that their lack of support for their son isn’t due to life, it’s intentional. So basically: Timmy came at the wrong time, was the wrong gender, and had the wrong brain. They blame their son for taking away their adventurous lifestyle and frankly hate him for it, hence why they are constantly leaving. Not for work or school. But to salvage their lifestyle and not be around him.

Yet again I see another comment basically screaming parents should prefer sons and not ever dare to want daughters yet some parents only ever have daughters therefore must be awful horrible parents and parents with sons only must be such wonderful good parents

I mean not all the time they had shown how much their care for their son like when ti,my whished for care free parents or them as super heroes or when Crocker rule the world or meet the oddparents sadly they need to be neglectful because if not the show loses his plot and Timmy knows it that's why he erased their meteorites in channel chasers

My parent always hated Fairly Odd Parents specifically for no reason and it was sorta the only show kinda banned. My parent also worked a lot and would come home to sleep that I would joke about there being no difference between a sleeping parent and an alcoholic parent. My parent also weren't there to do homework or play or engaged with me or even touched me like hugs or kisses or believed in praising me as they believe affection and praise would curse me to suffer cause of some ancestry myth and even if they engaged with me, they didn't really care about my interests or my grades just lecture me on safety and their problems/trauma/paranoia/religion with a few exceptions such as art or watching movies. I also didn't have any babysitter or anyone as my parent banned me from seeing my extended family and I struggled with making friends. My high school homeroom teacher was the only one who was there for me genuinely and I would've dropped out and died or get arrested if it wasnt for them. My parent also provided me the best they can giving me a roof over my head food on the table and art supplies, toys and movies I wanted if they can afford it which they usually struggled to. Now as an adult I try not to take it personally and my parent regrets not teaching me or being there for me even though they still don't but its a bit better but I still have this void and feel like a child that needs a parent and I dont think this void will ever be filled.

I watched the super thanke because its nice to see the support you get because you deserve it. Times can be tough and i hope if you are ever feeling down you can remember you arent alone. As for this video I can unforunately relate. Because I endured a divorce as a teen. And my parent did neglect me alot. But thats mainly cause my dead is a deadbeat. And my mom she just had a job that kept her so busy she was never around. So yeah i can relate unforunately.

Timmy problem would be solved if Timmy asked Wanda to give his parents to have the power to duplicate each other so they can be two places at once.

I was staying with my friend and her daughter and I (we are both adults, btw)ended up doing a total binge watch of The Fairly OddParents all evening and overnight on Paramount Plus. I woke up in the middle of the night and it was strangely comforting to see it still playing. I think we got all the way to the 5th season before my friend’s boyfriend made us finally watch something else! He was literally dumbfounded that we watched so many episodes of a cartoon….It was really pretty funny!! I had forgotten about how awful Timmy’s parents and Vicky were until rewatching so many episodes as an adult. Everything you mentioned was so true though, like how Timmy had it worse than even Chester did and all the adult jokes hidden in each episode! I was not the biggest fan of this particular episode, but I loved this show!! Some favorites of mine were the episodes with Chip Skylark, especially seeing as how Chris Kirkpatrick voiced him. I was a huge NSYNC fan, and you can’t really beat “Icky Vicky” and “My Shiny Teeth and Me”!! 😂❤ Every once in a while, I’ll remember those and have them stuck in my head for days; I have no idea why!! But this really was an awesome Nicktoon and I hope you do more videos on it!! 😊

I remember how back in the day (Oh Yeah! Cartoons back in the day), Timmy's Mom and Dad legitimately weren't that bad, just at events every now and again and they chose Vicky once and after the fun Timmy had with his Fairies, he insisted on Vicky being his babysitter so that Cosmo and Wanda would continue to be his Fairies, and on the one time they decided to let Timmy be home alone, they made sure that Timmy was guaranteed alright and left him with: - Emergency Phone Numbers and Emergency Provisions should anything happen - A First Aid Kit - A Second Aid Kit (Bigger than the First Aid Kit) - A Third Aid Kit (Bigger than the Second and had legitimate hospital equipment like Heart Monitors, IV Bags) - Emergency Flares (Somewhat dangerous, but I get it) - A literal satellite phone with direct connection to the Pentagon And even with all that to guarantee he was safe, they still wanted to check if Timmy was okay and when Vicky tried to pull a Candace, they came right away. Man, the jump from Oh Yeah! Cartoons to its own series really left the parenting part out, and it only got worse...

Dude, I had the same thing happen to me as a Dispatcher. As I was nearing the end of my training (which was on our PD console), the stress gave me nightmares. I woke up on time yelling in my head, "3510!" (one of the officers' numbers). I finished training shortly after lol. It was always joked around that once the nightmares/dreams happen about you dispatching, then that means you're close to being signed off. As I trained people for years to come, I can confirm that it is very true, lol.
