Check Out My Foo Fighters Playlist! • Foo Fighters
In this Times Like These guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this Foo Fighters' hit in it's entirety.
The tuning is standard tuning.
Dave Grohl opens "Times Like These" with a really interesting chord voicing that is probably not something you have played before. Pat Smear also adds some double-stops to this chord riff when it happens later in the song.
We also have a signature guitar lick that is repeated throughout the track. This lick is pretty easy to play, but there are some slight variations thrown in there throughout the song so pay close attention to that.
The chords for the verse and chorus are mostly basic open position chords with a little bit of melody embellishment.
And as will a lot of Foo Fighters' music, there will be some additional guitar layers thrown in there including an octave melody over the chorus.
All-in-all this is a fun track to play and hopefully you will be able to get it under fingers quickly.
Thanks! Carl... #timesliketheseguitarlesson #foofighters #guitarcovers

    Every KZread lesson on how to play this song is incorrect, even from the most reputable guitar teachers; except this one. I thank you for the skill and time you invest to make yours so reliably accurate.

    I think the most important thing to notice here is that the riff at the beginning and during the 1st part of the interlude is in 7/8 time and not in the more standard 4/4. For the 2nd part of the interlude they change for a regular 4/4, so listen closely to the drummer (which incidentally, must really be tight and know what he/she’s doing).

  • @ChrisJamesVideo

    @ChrisJamesVideo

    You are correct. 7/8 time is key for those parts of the song.

    Great lesson as always. One point though, you played the octaves under the lead line in 4/4 time where they’re actually in 7/8, switching back to 4/4 on the final run with the 10-12-10 on the lead line.

    Thanks - nice pace to the lesson Where you mention the octaves behind the intro apegios, I think it's 7 beats per note rather than 8 as you're playing . After the final (3rd) decent it does the full 8 beats prior to the strums returning (once) then the verse. So clever time sigs!
