I sat next to Dave on a flight from Seattle to LA once. It was my first time flying alone, I was probably 12 or 13, and I was very nervous. At this point I had no clue who the Foo Fighters or Nirvana were, so I literally had no clue who he was. He could tell I was super uneasy, so he talked to me and was super reassuring, asking me my name and introducing himself, just generally being a really friendly guy. He talked about how he played music, but never mentioned the bands, and never really played up how famous he was. He helped me get my carryon out of the luggage compartment and told me to have a fun time as I was going to disneyland with my uncle who lived in irvine, and that was it. I saw a couple people ask him for a picture when we got off the plane, but I never realized who he was until a year or so later when I mentioned a "Dave" who played music and took some pictures with people to some friends who asked me if it was him, and it just blew my mind. Really, really genuine guy, and an experience I'll never forget.

It usually takes fresh ears to come up with something very original. Trained musicians tend to stick to the classic chords they were taught. Dave basically created his own because he had no "rules" to follow.

It’s funny how we can take a song and it can mean something so different in our lives. The first time I heard this was on the hour long drive to Toronto’s Sick Kids Hospital, after 3.5 years our daughter was having her final chemo. “Could anything ever be this good again” … hubby and I smiled while our daughter and our son (10 months younger than our girl) sang the Do do do's in the backseat. It was our victory song! That same little girl is a beautiful and brilliant 31 year old who's getting married in October (to a drummer 🤷🏼‍♀️😂), we'll have a family dance to “our song… Everlong 😊 thanks Dave ❤️!

Passion will always overcome adversity. Not to in any way minimize legit adversity, but more to say hang on to your passion. Formal training, proper connections, ideal physick, or whatever looks like it's holding you back, don't let it. Magic comes from so many unexpected places.

@@haggleboggle most rock musicians I play with never had formal lessons either. Same for me. I had a guy show me a couple chords and just took over from there. Same with drums. I was shown how to ride the high hat while alternating bass and snare and the rest is just practice and discovery. My first entire band was like that. We figured out what we were doing as we went. It goes really fast too. You improve so fast as long as you put in the practice. It’s probably way more fun that way actually.

Music has a way of helping us transcend the crap hand life gives us sometimes. The Foo Fighters (and Everlong) in particular is an incredible song and your husband loved you so much that he learned to play it for you. What an amazing gift. I too suffered a horrible loss to the love of my life - my high school sweetheart - my husband - the father of our 2 beautiful daughters - my best friend…to an illness. Time will pass and you might find that it hurts a little less, but this song will anchor you to him forever and your feelings will eventually become more melancholy than sad. It’s been nearly 6 years since our loss and I can finally listen to Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley’s version) without breaking down into a puddle of tears and find that feeling that bonded us to that song with a smile in my heart. I’m so sorry for your loss. And you’re right…Fv

Dave you're a modern rock and roll legend. My wife and I saw your show at the Austin drum many years ago. Wheezer opened for you. Amazing show!! I was distracted while trying to talk to my wife and she started screaming "turn around, turn around!!" I looked over my left shoulder and you walked out to the opposite side of the venue. Blew my feeble mind!! I can't thank you enough for 30+ years of AWESOME rock and roll!!

The way he talked about seeing the guitar like a drum kit, rather than traditionally or classically inspired me to pick my guitar back up and fuck around with it until it until i got better at it. I did piano lessons for most of my life, so when i simplified the guitar and viewed it like a piano, it clicked. For people who dont think youre musically talented or capable, go get any instrument and just fuck around with it, search for KZread tutorials, read a book or 2, but fuck around with it in your way, in your own time and you will be astounded at yourself. You don't have to take lessons, you don't have to learn it a certain way, you dont have to be great at it immediately, you can have fun with it in your own way, thats what makes music so beautiful and unique.

Story time. Many years ago I had my first love. And I loved her with my whole heart. We dated for 2 1/2 years, and then she left me for another guy. It broke me so bad that I dropped out of college, left my job, burrowed head long into hard drugs, and eventually ended up homeless. I went to a rehab for nine months in St. Louis and recovered much of myself. At that rehab I met my current girlfriend, and I got an apartment up in St. Louis. It was there that one day I asked my girlfriend to come into my room and lay on my bed with me because I had found this song, and it meant a lot to me concerning my past with my ex. We laid there, and as the song played, I found myself breaking down and dripping with lots of tears. When the song ended, she looked over at me and said, “Ohmygod baby! Are you alright?” “Yes.” I choked out. “I really didn’t think it was going to hit me like that.” I had so much more to get out about what went down between me and her, and I knew that, but I didn’t think it was going to come out then. To everyone still hurting or still in love years after a past relationship, just know that I get it. It’s the deepest pain that I know. But we have to keep expelling it in whatever ways we know. Keep pushing to cope. “Being missed so dearly is the price of being loved so much.” “In the end. The only thing that matters. Is how much you loved.” “You were with them, and they were with you, and that’s what matters.” I’m finally about to send her a letter as a means of attempting greater closure. It has everything I wish I would have told her in it. Wish my heart the best please, and thank you for reading.

YOU CAN CHOOSE TO REJECT JESUS' GIFT & PAY FOR YOUR OWN SIN WITH DEATH (HELL) BUT THAT SEEMS PRETTY FOOLISH! GOD SEES & HEARS EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID & DONE. YOU WONT WIN AN ARGUMENT ON JUDGEMENT DAY & YOU CANT DEFEND ANY OF YOUR SINS. WE'RE ALL GUILTY WITHOUT ACCEPTING JESUS' SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS! MUHAMMAD DIDN'T DIE FOR YOUR SINS, BUDDHA DIDN'T DIE FOR YOUR SINS, NO PASTOR/PRIEST/MARY OR SAINT DIED FOR YOUR SINS, NO IDOLS OR FALSE GODS DIED FOR YOUR SINS, NO ACTOR OR CELEBRITY DIED FOR YOUR SINS, NO ATHLETE OR POLITICIAN DIED FOR YOUR SINS! JESUS CHRIST ALONE DIED FOR YOUR SINS & WAS RESURRECTED FROM THE GRAVE! HE IS ALIVE & COMING BACK SOON WITH JUDGEMENT! PREPARE YOURSELVES! IT'S NOT ABOUT RELIGION, TITHING, CHURCH... IT STARTS WITH ASKING HIM TO FORGIVE YOUR SINS & INVITING HIM INTO YOUR HEART/LIFE, SURRENDER ALL TO HIM! IT'S ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR CREATOR, DONT WAIT TO CRY OUT! NO ONE IS PROMISED TOMORROW! HE LONGS FOR YOU TO INVITE HIM IN, HE LOVES YOU MORE THAN ANY PERSON EVER COULD, HE CREATED YOU! Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."-John 14:6 "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."-Matthew 10:33 “For the wages of sin is death (hell), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”-Romans 6:23
