TIMELINE: 2002 In Professional Wrestling
Спорт
2002 may technically be “decades ago”, but its footprint sits deep in today’s wrestling panorama. It’s the year where WWE gained new competitors like TNA and ROH, each of them amassing their own cult followings. It’s also the year in which the next crop of undoubted Hall of Famer began their trek to greatness. And all templates for how to divvy up an oversized roster owe a little something to 2002. The years to follow were distinctly shaped by the original thoughts of 2002, and the influence is still felt today.

One thing i didn't see in the video, so i'll leave it here in the comments. May 12th, 2002 - Eric Kulas, formerly known as Mass Transit, dies from complications from a surgery. Kulas is most known for the 1996 Mass Transit Incident in ECW, where New Jack cut him deep with a scalpel, almost making him bleed to death.
Been waiting for another one of these videos since the 2001 version. Glad to see this will be an ongoing series
So much awesome things happened in 2002 and it was quite an important year for WWE in particular

1997, 2001 and 2002 are my favorite years in Pro Wrestling
2002 was the first year I watched wrestling regularly so it has a special place in my heart. Amazing video Sam!
July 23 of this year was when I found wrestling. I was flipping through the channels and found the steel cage match. Seeing Rey climb that cage in what I could have sworn was 2 leaps and jump from that high hooked me. Crazy how long it has been now.

If that's the content you so desire, i highly urge you to check out "Wrestling Bios". He's got great content, and does a literal show by show timeline he calls "Reliving The War" where he breaks down each show of the week by episode, match by match, promo by promo. Very in depth stuff and very well made content. Seriously. Do yourself a favor and check him out

Only 2 minutes in, but I'm very impressed. Will be following this series.
Hope to see more of these 2002 was defiantly a year of transformation and a forgottenly great year in wrestling I mo
You guys are frikkin amazing, all this content you created pre Xmas just so we weren't bored over the holidays! It's why you are and always will be, my favourite KZread channel. Here. Take my money.
2002 would always be my favorite year in Wrestling history. The year TNA and ROH were born, the year the WWE's brand split was born, RAW takes the brand warfare against SD, Rock vs Hogan, HBK vs HHH, Brock Lesnar, brand new faces and stars, SmackDown Six, The PPV Quality was great, the TV matches were also great, etc. Well the year for wrestling started off so weird and it felt different from January to June. Austin had enough and left the WWE, The World Wrestling Federation turns into the World Wrestling Entertainment (Get the "F" out), Triple H had a awkward run as a babyface, Chris Jericho hated his Undisputed title run, so weird and negative stuff, nWo and Mr. Perfect had failed runs. So weird. The first half was so weird and the ratings are dropping down and the second half was awesome. It's almost WWE's 70th birthday. This company is almost 70 years old. ROH is about to turn 20 years old in February and TNA IMPACT Wrestling is about 20 years old in June. What a Time to Be Alive.

I discovered wrestling in 2002. The royal rumble to be exact!
HHH vs Jericho would be one of the most underrated Hell in A Cell matches of time.

Sam, this is friggen amazing! 2002 was the year I got into wrestling, this was filled with nostalgia! Keep on crushing it boys!
Thanks and safety to ya all as always!! Man this is really good! I hope you guys will do more of these, granted I'm sure it will take time but man, great job on this! (And I was at the No Mercy in Little Rock in 2002 holy crap!! Thanks for bringing back memories!)
Absolutely outstanding work..Great narration from Sam. Must of been a ridiculous amount of effort for this to be made and I hope it is rewarded for it. Great work guys. Hope to see more of these if it's worth the effort for you
Was at the Jan 4 show where HHH returned. Good show overall.
Low-Ki's ROH 2002 run is underrated
Remember when WWE Niagara Falls opened, story goes that when the store was featured on the news in the area it caught the attention of a safety inspector who then showed and had the Pile Driver ride shut down as it was not given proper clearance to operate with rumours going around that they found an engineer who was retiring and left the country to sign off on it without doing a a full inspection. The ride remained closed for the majority of the existence of the store.
The King Of The Ring came full circle when it returned in 2002 to Ohio. It was in 1993 in Dayton, Ohio I believe where the Inaugural KOTR took place.

This is an incredible concept for a video. I know this definitely took a ton of work, but I hope you do more of these in the future. Wrestling history, man 🙏
FINALLY!!! I love these year timeline videos. Thank you so much!
Great job as always guys. I know so much effort went in to this and I learned so much. . The owner from FMW owing the Yakuza money was wild!
This is amazing! Can't wait to see more of these. Incredible content Sam and all of Cultaholic
I love that you're doing more of these! Thank you!
Fantastic work Sam and all that worked on this project! It deserves so much more exposure! Cultaholic has the best community on this platform! Can’t wait for more of these!
This video is so, so good. Thanks for putting this one together.
Love these videos I work by my self in the graveyard shift at the market where I work and these long videos full the classic wrestling info that I live for really gets me through the night
Ah… the year I became a wrestling fan… hard to believe it’s been two decades. Fantastic video Sam and team! A good trip down memory lane.
These are beautiful videos. Especially since I've been truly entrenched in watching and finding all wrestling I can. Learning as much as I can about it.
First timeline video i've seen from you guys, and I'm loving it so far
My favorite series, I know these types of videos take a long time so thank y’all for entertaining us!
Really enjoying these TIMELINE videos. Keep up the great work! 👍
I absolutely loved this and the 2001 Timeline videos! I know you guys have a lot on your plate but I’d love to see more.
31:00 Austin was right. Shock booking is one thing, but there was no build to the match.
These videos are really cool. Hope you guys do a couple more of these timeline retrospectives in the future. All love from the states boys ❤️
This was the year I finally got into wrestling, the segment where Shawn Michaels jumped out of the wheelchair on Raw is when I knew I was hooked.
Oh yes keep doing these Timeline videos! I’m waiting for the 2007 video!
Man this was great. You guys should definitely do more of this
I really feel like I was time warped back to 2002 thanks sam for reliving the memories I’ll never forget and some I haven’t seen in decades. Can’t wait for the next one!
These timeline videos are immense guys, would love to see more of them 🙂
Keep up the timeline vids ! I remember being so happy getting in to ROH around this time ! Since ECW died. I was lost with wrestling in the states. I bought every dvd i could !
Thx so much. This Format is Amazing. Hope for more. Plz!!!

My god, you dropped a new War Stories AND Timeline 2002 in the same day??? Cultaholic isn't content with being "one of my favourite" channels, you're going for the undisputed number one spot. :)
16:39 This was the era where I was 9 and 10 years old and I could more easily understand what was actually happening in wrestling, and Across The Nation will always be the RAW theme song that gives me the most nostalgic pop

I agree with everything you just said
Phenomenal job on this video guys. Didn't think I'd catch you in an error though, but I did: At 24:52, that's not the late WCW referee Randy "Pee Wee" Anderson with the sunglasses on, but rather longtime WCW/WWE ref Nick Patrick, who of course is very much alive. Still, a fantastic video as usual.
Great video timeline. Just need at least 21 more 👊
Great work Sam, thank you for the video
Incredible video. Kudos. 😊👍
Awesome video and a great narration from Sam. Also, on a side-note, any feature that gets Witch Costume Stephanie some air time is going to be a winner.
This is a brilliant video well done on all the research and thank you
This is a great series man thank you! Please go back and start around 95/96!
I'm sure the work that went into this was mind bending but I would love to see more years laid out like this
Nice work, great year for wrestling. Went to a house show @ MSG back then, we saw Flair vs Lesnar, RVD vs Eddie Guerrero, Hogan vs Undertaker. All legends, you're not gonna beat that lineup.
Hahahaha the Panda dancing In the background celebrating at 24:29 is awesome
Great video, but that second shot of "Randy Anderson" after his death announcement was actually Nick Patrick during his NWO ref run. Keep up these vids, they're great for making my time at work enjoyable! 😁
fantastic work sam
When the boys moved from Name Dedacted, I never thought Sam would do much as far as presenting videos, over the last few years he has quickly became my favourite presenter, great work as usual Sam!
These are great videos!
you could perhaps say 2002 is to modern wrestling what the year 1986 was to thrash metal- does that make sense to anyone else? I think it's a good comparison
This is just AMAZING. Props to Sam! Ps: the second photo of Kenny Anderson is actually Nick Patrick
At Wrestlemania X8, we were all cheering for Hogan. Even hours before the doors opened. After the match, most of the crowd left as we knew HHH was going over. I bet there was maybe 5-10k people left in the stands. Then we got stuck in the snowstorm that night.
I shall enjoy this profoundly. Good work Gents
Love these timeline videos
Can't believe you didn't mention Me Perfect in the rumble ,coolest chewing gum spot ever !!!
Please keep these going. A year 2000 would be sick too. And 90s
Great video! Thank you so much
Keep doing these, they are amazing
I was there for Triple H's first match back in Binghamton, didn't realize it was his first match back. Also saw Brock Lesnar wrestle The Brooklyn Brawler....so there's that also...
wow 2002 really was an important year for wrestling history, awesome video
2002 was a great year for WWE! It started off pretty dull, but as the year went by, it really started to pick up steam. The inaugural brand split saw Smackdown put on some of the best television it has ever put on! Raw had the talent to put on some quality television as well. It had great PPV quality as well! Royal Rumble, Vengeance, Summerslam, Unforgiven, No Mercy, Rebellion, Survivor Series, and Armageddon were all solid shows. TNA and ROH had a decent first year as they made their mark in the professional wrestling industry.

flippin heck these timelines are brilliant. Sam should be really proud.
20:40 Backlash 2002 becomes the first WWF PPV to be held at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO since the death of Owen Hart at Over the Edge 1999. Notice that I said it was the first WWF PPV to be help in KC since Owen Hart's death. WCW actually held a PPV in that arena in 2000. Also, at 20:58, Over the Edge 1999's main event was Austin vs Taker for the WWF title with not one but two special guest referees (Shane for the Undertaker and Vince for Steve Austin). Fast forward three years later, take away the WWF title being on the line and the special guest referee being Ric Flair, it is a repeat of the match as Undertaker defeats Austin in a controversial finish (just like Over the Edge 1999).
16:16 Let’s not forget that this was also the debut of the 2002-2006 RAW stage and the debut of Kane’s Slow Chemical theme
Love the video....I remember buying wwe anthology...and the guy in the store laughing at me
Looking at Shawn Stasiak.. that man was definitely on the juice
Fantastic video
The popping a, cold one on raw line had me completely folded!!!
In my honest opinion, I look back at Professional Wrestling in 2002 and I thought it was crazier than I remembered. There's too much to cover.
They were airing on Sky Box Office long before 2002!! I'd stop watching by then and I still owe my mother the money for all the sneaky times I bought it without her knowledge!
THIS IS SO COOL. MORE PLEASE!!!!!
Love the timelines can't wait for 2003
Brilliant I want more of these
2002 was such a great year Triple H Returning was awesome Eric Bischoff's Debut in WWE was Very shocking and Stacy Keibler Joining Raw On August 12th 2002 was an amazing moment for me and The Very First Draft in WWF History was very shocking Summerslam 2002 Unforgiven 2002 No Mercy 2002 Survivor Series 2002 And Armageddon 2002 were all Great PPV'S WWE in 2002 brought me so many Memories.
YES YES YES, I LOVE THESE, THANK YOU!!!!
LOVE this new series
This series is the best thing Cultaholic has ever done in my opinion
Please continue this series
This is absolute gem content
This was one hell of a year
yes,i definitely agree i wanna see cultaholic do a video on the year 2002 vs 2004 because in my opinion those two years are debatably parallel and i dont know which one was better.
@onuoraawesome7777
2 жыл бұрын
When it comes to WWE, 2004 was shit! TNA was starting to develop themselves as the alternative for WWE, and ROH was pretty decent. And I believe there were only 7 good PPVs throughout the entire year between the 3 companies. WWE had 2. TNA had 1, but that's because they started producing PPVs late. And ROH had 4. Yeah! 2004 was not a good year for wrestling. 2005 was a much better year than 2004! 2008 was a better year than 2004 just based on PPV quality. Hell, I thought 2016 & 2018 were better years than 2004 outside of Monday Night Raw.
Incredible work by both Sam and the writers
