How do they get the crane out of it at the end?

Use what's called a davit arm. Lean the boom down against the shell and rig it there. Release from the roller race at the bottom of the boom. Then use the load line and boom line to lift up and flip upside down over the edge and lower to the ground. Slide last roof sheet over and weld it up.

A Davit arm is one method used for CET type water towers not too sure how that would work with the curved shell versus a tank shell. A different method most likely was used on this 1.5 MG spheroid.
