4:50 just don't, roving is not yarn, it will just turn into a mess as the roving pulls apart, because the fibres are shorter than those stitches and it attracts all the dirt, and it can't really be washed, because it can turn stiff and become felted if you're lucky, if not you just have chunks of felted unusable roving.

as a 14 y/o girl with adhd and autism, learning to crochet about a month ago was the best decision i’ve ever made. it’s the only thing i think about and it makes me so happy to finally feel like i have a personality but most of all to learn a skill that makes me feel good and keeps my brain entertained. i swear i’m addicted!! so far within less than a month i’ve made a cardigan, a sweater, a tank top, wrapped my charger (vine charger trend), and made two pairs of fingerless gloves (one for my sister that was all black, and a colorful one for me based off of the kit gloves from coraline). i thought it would just be another hyperfixation, but i can genuinely see myself sticking to this, as it also doubles as a pretty good coping mechanism!!

The chunky yarn is awesome to do it with, but people using wool roving to make hand-knit blankets hurts my soul (not to mention this is a crochet compilation but THAT ISNT CROCHET)...y'all do realise that it felts in a lumpy and uneven mess within weeks right? Make awesome big blankets BUT MAKE THEM WITH BIG YARN, not something that will ruin your hard work

@@marnoon wool roving is yarn that hasn't been spun. It is very fragile if you crochet it. If you crochet or knit something with it, it will literally fall apart. Plus, it's so expensive that you'd be a lot better off using thick yarn. I would hate to see someone spend all of that time and money on making a blanket that won't survive longer than a month. Loved the video though!

  • @meamomo5389

i agree, that will literally fall apart in a few weeks. yarn like that has very little fiber memory and especially hand knit blankets leaves a loose tension that will eventually felt the blanket and make it fall apart into just a bundle of sad yarn lol. better much invest in big, jumbo yarn!

People finger knitting with roving hurts my soul. Even chunky roving yarns, I spent $300+ on a bunch of chunky hand dyed roving yarn and make a sweater with it and it fucking sucked. It just pilled and matted and felted and got dirty, and it's not even warm to wear outside like people think, because the stitches are so big that the air just passes through the spaces in between the stitches. So please for the love of god use a felted roving, get a thick PLYED or even chenille (however you spell that) yarn, or hold yarn together if you want to make a chunky project. I took mine apart to hopefully make something else with the yarn, but I feel like there's no hope LOL

I love making blankets the most with crochet because, depending on the pattern, it can be an enjoyable challenge. Right now, for the holiday season, I'm working on recreating the magic carpet from Aladdin (cartoon, not live-action) for my dad because that's his favorite movie. Using the corner to corner method works best for that kind of thing.

I just finished knitting a blanket a few minutes ago. The blanket is about 5'1 long and it took almost 1 year(mainly because I started to procrastinate and take month long breaks from knitting so really it took only 2-4 weeks). My arms are jacked from knitting so much! I started to knit this blanket when I was 11 I finished when I was 12

Ok so apparently you should NOT make the blanket at 1:49 because it will just attract all sorts of dirt and if you wash it it will destroy your washing machine. It's not yarn it's roving fibers which is what they spin into yarn so you're not supposed to actually knit with it. However I would love to get a spinning wheel and spin my own yarn hehe

that one looks like actual just chunky yarn but the one at 5:00 kinda looks like roving like you're talking about?

Spindles have a much lower starting cost for anyone trying to get into spinning, 5$ for the simplest kind I could never sit still fot long enough to spin on a spinning wheel but my spindle moves with me and you can get pretty fast with a spindle

1:49 is using chunky yarn, it doesn’t spread out like the roving used at 4:50, she should be fine

Chenille yarn is yarn, roving is what you’re talking about and it is the stage before spun into yarn.

My mom has a spinning wheel which I have seen her use for to make only one colour of yarn ages ago. My grandpa has two different ones which are old so I'm not sure if they are really useable for it
