Tikka T3x Superlight 7mm Rem Mag & Tikka 7mm SAUM Superpig & Ruger American 300 Blackout

Спорт

Me and Bradley head to the range to try out my new Tikka T3x Superlight in 7mm Rem Mag and do some load development for his new Tikka 7mm SAUM Superpig rifle. Bradley also has his Ruger American 300 Blackout to try out some new reloads.

    Sweet! Just finished sorting mine out for our Landsborough Thar ballot in June. Man it was pretty finicky the buggar! Ended up with 162 ELD-X, 69.7gns 2217,hornady brass,chi mag primers,seated 10 thou off the lands. Had to modify the mag to suit, feeds and groups really well right out to 1000yds. Also shoots sweet with Deans Quatromax brake. Awesome you got yours sorted. 2213sc is a great friendly powder, It is the best powder in my 270 with 140gn accubonds......1 hole 3 shot group. Regards Vaughan

    I bought a stainless Tikka T3X Superlight in .270 Win for hunting up here in Alaska. This rifle is inexpensive, so it has lots of plastic...plastic stock with no aluminum bedding block, plastic magazine, plastic trigger guard, plastic bolt release, etc. At least now Tikka has steel recoil lug and aluminum bolt shroud and a foam filled stock...all improvements over earlier Tikka T3x. It would cost more than the rifle to upgrade all the plastic components, and they don't substantially affect accuracy. I was able to get subMOA accuracy with IMR4350 in one afternoon of load development...my best load was at ~3,000 fps with a standard deviation of 4.6 fps with Nozler brass full length resized with a shoulder bump of 0.002" shooting 130 gr Barnes TTSX. I also like the recoil hole on the receiver (Sako/Tikka optiloc system) and used Warne Maxima rings to mount directly to the receiver dovetail (no rail or scope bases needed). The Maxima rings have a recoil lug that fits into the receiver recoil hole nicely. A very light, all-weather, accurate mountain rifle.

    Tikkas are great rifles. I got a T3 in 270 wsm, and even with factory ammo it is amazingly accurate. It was shooting .75 moa off the bench when I first got it with factory ammo. And believe it or not, it shoots both Federal Fusion 150 gr and Fed Blue box 130 gr exceptionally well. I tried some premium ammo, and it was just over moa. Now that she's fully broke in, just over 100 rounds through it. I couldn't find the fusion ammo which I prefer due to the higher bc, weight, and better bullet construction. So I just bought a few boxes of fed blue box and sighted it in with that. Just amazing, first 2 shots same hole, 3rd shot was just a touch to the left but still measured .05 moa. Only hunting deer this year so wasn't to worried about having a premium bullet. Was a touch concerned about hitting bone at short ranges if an opportunity came up. So just really watched my shot angles, and took my time. I took my doe the other day. She dropped on the spot with a shot through the lungs. Weather is pretty horrible, and the pressure was high where I was hunting. So, the deer weren't moving much. White tail are rutting, but still haven't seen a decent buck. They are extremely hard to find during hunting hours in my area of Alberta. But Mulie bucks are absolute monsters up here, and stalked one which had to be close to 200 inches, and giant body wise. Unfortunately he escaped to land I had no permission to hunt on. Still time though. Bet yes, that's a great rifle you have there. I'm thinking of going to 7 rem mag myself. Love the 270wsm, just don't like the fact it's hard to find ammo, especially as I don't reload yet. Great vid, cheers from Canada.

    Not saying it will but you should shoot a group with the brake on and one with it off just to make sure there isn’t a severe point of impact shift. In my experience it will change the barrel harmonics which will effect accuracy to a degree, exactly how much has to do with the rifle and load. For the time it takes me to test it’s worth the piece of mind knowing your not going to lose an animal!

    How does your tikka t3x superlite in 7mm recoil? I’m trying to decide between a tikka t3x superlite in either .270 or 7mm rem mag for an all around hunting cartridge whitetail-elk and can’t decide. The .270 has lighter recoil and is lighter. But the 7mm has more energy at further ranges. Any advice?

  • @WildNZ

    @WildNZ

    Personally I would go the rem mag, but only if you are comfortable with recoil. With a suppressor I find the 7mm Rem Mag no worries to shoot. It’s definitely a bit sharper on the shoulder if it’s just straight muzzle but so is a 270.
