Thump mat- rope hot pad
In this video we tie the thump mat.
The mat was made using 1/4 inch (6mm) hemp rope. For a tight 4 pass version you would need about 20 feet (6 meters) of rope, while a looser version can be made using at least 24 feet (7,2 meters) of rope.
How to do common whipping:

Mark, thanks for this video. I tied a 6 strand thump mat coaster with nylon twine, and it came out perfectly the first time. Excellent explanation.
Just finished this. Beautiful mat and very clear tutorial. Thanks so much!

Explicas muy bien muchas gracias
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
I love working with jute but I also have a lot of yarn left over because I also love plastic canvas This video also gives me a great idea on braiding all my left over yarns and then making a shape like in this video to create a rope anything including placemats and coasters 😎
Good idea ! I will also try
Beautiful
Thank you .You are the only one how to finishing the two ends of the cords .Big help
gracias
Super thanks for for giving nice information
I like this creation very much. I have a skein of rope, but it is thinner and I think the effect would not be so full and solid. Will look for one like yours. Thank you for your useful video!!

The vdei is pretty good indeed. It's a very old braid knot typical of the ancient navies. This model is the simplest. In french it is called a baderne and it's mostly used as a rough carpet. You can use any diameter of rope, and use 6 to 12 passes, and even with different colors or textures, but tjhat becomes very lengtthy. a more carpet model kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKWpqsl6qN2-msY.html

Usually a coil is about 220 meters (720 feet), that should be more than plenty :). Mark

Very nice. I don’t think you explained doubling the number of strands to get it to be full though.
Hi! How can i make one like that but bigger, like a mat-door?
Superb 👌👌👌👌👌

what kind of rope?
Hi Mark... so beautiful... i am going to buy rope to do today.. thanks a lot.. and how long was the string for doing this?
Kim was asking what kind of rope you could use for a pot that had just been taken out of the oven after cooking in it for a couple of hours. Still hemp? ... Another useful tutorial. Thanks, Mark!

Hey! Well, I think the mat should hold up, but it will get some heat marks. Natural materials rarely take severe heat very well. Mark

How long
Awesome. But bit difficult to make
I want to make this mat with 8mm rope. Do I need more than 20 feet? When you make your mats, is there a formula that you use to calculate the length of rope needed in relation to the rope diameter? How do you also calculate the length of rope for the number of passes?

Just the starting is a little bit difficult, not well open the 6 circles... not easy to follow quickly. 😉
Holy heck. That went way to fast for me to follow 😞 to bad because it's beautiful
Deveria ser obrigatório no mínimo ter legenda ei português um passo a passo desse agente não sabe nem a medida do barbante sem contar que a legenda em outro idioma atrapalha pra ver como é feito pura perda de tempo ver estes vídeos .
Way too quick and your hands are in the way. I've even played this on slow time and can't get it.
I have to say something here... Who's face is in the wood board... Look closely...
Good video but seriously why the use of "merica" measurements! Maybe use measurements invented after 1402!

This was a hard one. Had to take it apart twice. I had it too loose so only three leads were possible with 21ft of cordage. It would be helpful to know at the beginning what the diameter of the finished product should be.
