Throwing out a WHOLE CHICKEN For Bait! (CRAZY RESULTS) Catch & Cook

Ойын-сауық

Using an ENTIRE CHICKEN for bait? What could go wrong!?
So this week, we are trying something we’ve never done before: we are using a whole chicken to catch live crabs. We have the chicken, we have the crab lines and the crab net, sounds easy enough, right? Hopefully, we will be about to catch a bushel so that we can take them home to cook for our family. This was such a crazy experience and one I can’t wait to repeat!
We will be turning our crabs into Maryland style crab cakes! Watch for the recipe and try it at home yourself!

You are so lucky to have a great, fun father and a great, always smiling wife who enjoys fishing together! My dad never did anything with me, not once. My wife doesn't like to be in the sun, so all my fishing is by myself and it sure would be nice to have it be a family affair like you do! You are very, very blessed!!

No one ever taught me how to fish for crabs when I was a little kid, but that is exactly what I did. Piece of chicken on a line and pull them up into the bucket. I never told anybody what I was doing on the pier, and we never ate them. I would just throw them back. But I had endless little boy fun catching them and playing with them on the small pier. Got pinched more than once and that drew tears, but hey, I was only nine or ten years old!

Being pinched by a crab was great practice for those two legged crabs with hands for pincers you would meet just a little later in life.

A bit of advice from Cajun country: when crabbing like this, use ladies pantyhose/stockings to put the chicken in. Cut the stockings a little larger than the bait, tie a knot on each end, then the line tog the knot rather than through the chicken. Bait lasts longer & often the crabs claws get hung up on the stockings, makes them a little easier to catch.

When I was a kid my mom would take us to help her catch blue crabs 50 years ago, she would dangle a chicken neck tied to a short cane pole over the grassy Bay Area of Bradenton Beach, we would scoop the crabs up with a hand held net and put them in the bucket. Within an hour we had plenty of crabs for supper. Many memories watching your video. Happy crabbing !

WOW am I envious!!! I was stationed in St. Mary's County, MD with the US Coast Guard years ago. Fresh caught blue crabs, oysters, and hush puppies!! The locals would fill jars with blue crab meat, vinegar, and their favorite hot peppers, and see whose peppers were the hottest!! YIKES!! Sadly, as I got older, I developed a shellfish allergy...oh NOOOOOO!!!! I can now only safely eat fish. RATS!!!! But the memories still linger on any taste buds forty-five years later.

I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and often crabbed off bridges using the necks, backs, etc of the chicken and attaching some bolts as weights. When you pull up the line, have your net ready because the crab will let go as soon as they come out of the water. Of course you’re catching the Chesapeake Blue Claws and there’s nothing like them.

If your found with underside or over the limit, fines are huge, like $200 per crab and iv even heard of peoples boats being seized by the fisheries.
