The very last knot that you show, the Palomar, is arguably known as the best and strongest knot around. And to be fair, one of the simplest knots to learn for folks new to fishing. It was the first knot that my father taught me and the first knot that I taught my two sons.

The second look really nice. The last one, palomar is strong knot for main line. But I think I have another, better and even simpler than palomar. I call it knot without knot. You simply make 3 loop inside the ring, you pass the excess under the main line then inside the 3 loop. That's all. You can make some loop for finishing and it's perfect :)

The basic problem with hooks with ears is that the end of the wire is almost always not separated cleanly and has a clear, sharp-edged burr. As a result, any knot with the turns of line wrapped around the hook shaft will sooner or later break as the burr will inevitably destroy the line.

been fishing in saltwater for over 20 years - your main line will break before most knots as that is where the highest stress is not the knot itself. Landed 400+ sharks on 30lb test with a standard clinch knot. (only knots you actually need - clinch for mono, improved clinch for braid, uni to uni (joining two lines), loop knot and mono to wire knot) less time tying silly knots and more time fishing. I love the guys who try and tie an FG on the boat - 30mins later their back in the water. lmao.

problem with the FG you have to secure it with super glue otherwise it will start to come lose. Lost a few studs on the FG - including a white marlin at the boat. for me its a waste of time and being offshore retying that knot in 3ft+ seas is a big L.

Meh....there wouldn't be a knot called the IMPROVED Clinch Knot, if the OG Clinch was flawless. You don't fix what isn't broken...and someone along the way decided they should fix the Clinch 🤷🤷🤷 And anyone who's spent a life fishing, knows exactly what I'm saying. There's not many feelings in life that're worse than that feeling you get, as you're staring down at this squiggly/curly/twisted up end of your nauseatingly empty ass fishing line....where only moments before, was a HUGE hard fighting TANK of a fish. A fish SOOOO big, that it made your knees weak when you caught that first glimpse.... RIGHT before the knot failed. You go from feeling you're on top of the world, to feeling like you got hard kicked in the cockNballs. You're sick to your stomach. All because the clinch knot pulled apart.... 🤬👎

That’s why, on a mooching salmon boat, when I noticed the deckhand tying everyone’s bait with a clinch knot, I told my nephew not to let this guy touch his gear, and I tied improved clinch knots for us. Sure enough, on a hot bite, more than 80% of the hookups became clinch knot failures. Didn’t happen to me or my nephew, though. The boat must have thought if they fish the fish out, they’d be out of a job. Aldo, when my nephew’s 20 lb king came to the boat after 2 laps around, the deckhand took the net and bopped the fish on top of the head, and Zi lost it; cane after him. The skipper pushed the deckhand away then after the 3rd lsp around the boat, he gently netted that king for him. Man I was steamed up but the skipper did the right thing. No fish that got away from us that day! Improved clinch knot was the bomb!

The first knot is the only one you need to know 90% of the time. If you have a large diameter eye you are tying to… or snap ring… it can slip out. So the other is a polymer knot. (Spell check) It won’t ever slip or pull through. 👍 my dad showed me the cinch knot when I was about 8 years old. It’s my go to. Only time I switch is if I test my knot and it pulls through, or if I have a lure or hook that I know will probably slip the knot. Cinch knot simply does not break.
