Three Types of Marriages - Cohabitation, Contractor, or Covenant

Three Types of Marriages - Cohabitation, Contractor, or Covenant
Chapters:
00:00 Intro
00:49 Cohabitation stage.
14:56 Contract stage.
31:29 Covenant stage.
Sermon Notes:
1. Cohabitation stage - I don’t love you enough to be loyal to you.
From the beginning being naked was reserved for a man and his wife.
Cohabitation is a sin of fornication.
Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 1 Corinthians 7vs2
Living together doesn’t constitute marriage.
If you are cohabitating:
A. Continue to shake up but Scripture and statistics are not in your favor.
B. Find separate living quarters and stop having sex until you’re married.
C. Get married quickly and have a formal wedding later.
2. Contract stage - I love you if you love me.
“But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. Luke 6vs32
Contract type of marriage:
- Protecting my rights
- Limiting my responsibilities
- Safeguarding my interests
Covenant type of marriage:
- Laying down my rights
- Increasing my responsibilities
- Safeguarding the interests of your mate
His disciples said to Him, “If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” Matthew 19vs10
3. Covenant stage - I love you as Christ loved me.
The marriage covenant is different from a marriage contract:
1. Contract involves promises; covenant involves oaths.
2. A contract involves part of your life; a covenant involves your whole life.
3. A contract has an expiration; a covenant is for life.
4. The contract is written in ink, and the covenant is written in blood.
5. Contracts are enforced by courts; covenants are enforced by character.
6. In the contract you sign your name; in the covenant, you bind your heart.
The marriage covenant demands the death of two wills to birth one.
Who forsakes the companion of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. Proverbs 2vs17
Marriage is not just a covenant with your spouse, it’s the covenant with God.
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4vs12
Covenant marriage means we are glued to each other through a joint commitment to God first.
In contractual marriage, my actions are reactions to yours; in covenantal marriage, my actions are in response to Christ.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, Ephesians 5vs25
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4vs32

This was so wonderful.. our marriage has crumbled because it was not Christ Centered . My husband left 5 weeks ago and by Gods Grace he has drawn me closer to Jesus than I have ever been. Brothers and sisters in Christ, please put Christ at the center of your marriage. I thought I’d be with my husband another 30 years. I don’t have any control. I’m praying 🙏 for Gods will. Thank you Vlad for this amazing message.

Similar situation with my husband and I we got together and spent 17 years together both unsaved. He was verbally and emotionally abusive for many years. I got saved May 2023, he said that turned him off. In July he cheated on me, in October he moved in with the woman he cheated with. In November he lost his job, and his new woman started treating him badly, then started hitting him and yelling for him to get out. Then she called the police and said he assaulted her and her 12 year old daughter! Now my husband is in jail with no bail waiting for trial. We have a 2 year old daughter together as well. I've been getting closer and closet to God during this time, and I know He'll either save my husband, or he'll send me a godly husband and godly father for my daughter. Everything is in God's hands. He knows what's best for us. ❤

This brought me to tears. I am single, but just the thought of loving someone as God loves me blows me away 💗 God has shown me how much he loves me and I believe it’s more than I even know to acknowledge. I’ve been in abusive relationships and when you said, your relationship is only as good as your relationship with God, everything sank in. When I was far from God, no relationship in my life was healthy. Now, I have restored my relationship with family and made friends in Christ. I know God has a man in my future that will reflect the relationship we have together now ❤️ this teaching was beautiful

I have filed for divorce but I still pray for my husband and our marriage. We have been talking in the last couple of days and we both agreed that marriage is a covenant between ourselves and God. God has provided us as individuals man and woman with biblical instruction on how to be as a husband and wife. That by following these instructions we honor God and simultaneously honor our spouse. We have decided to start fresh again with this as our foundation.

@@melaniemartin730 Its not really in the bible. It sounds nice but a covenant is really just an agreement between two parties, while a contract is legal document. A covenant can be broken in the same way a legal agreement can. I dont think it matters what you call it. God permitted certificates of divorce in certain situations which legally allowed women to remarry.

An extremely SELFISH spouse does not get that it's not ALL ABOUT THEM, and they are not looking to give. I am amazed that a person can be kind, gentle, and encouraging, but OH...SO...SELFISH. It manifests in many other ways. Truly, truly, love HAS TO BE A CHOICE! Marriage is about DYING to self to live unto CHRIST. Ephesians 5 is God's instructions for marriage, however, people need to be taught, IN ADVANCE of marriage, specific practical applications, by couples who have "been there and done that." "I'm going to change my spouse because I'm NOT going to change my character;" true SELFISHNESS at its finest!

Thank you so much for this sermon. I’m one month into a separation from my husband of 15 years. We have four small children. Christ has never been the center of our marriage. The more my faith increased this last year the more my husband grew distant. The first and most pervasive statement from him is I deserve to be happy. I’m doing a lot of praying, reading of my Bible and repentance of my own sins in our marriage. I pray daily for his salvation, reconciliation and an intact family unit. Without a heart posture towards Jesus and our own sin nature, a joy filled marriage seems nearly impossible.

Pray fast and believe God can restore anything and anyone. Fight for your marriage if talking doesn’t work just pray that he comes back and be your husband and the father for your kids he needs to be. Don’t be afraid to ask that in prayer because ultimately thats is what Gods wants as well.

"Marriage is not about happiness, it's about holiness." Love it, marriage has responsibilities which must be honored and shouldered despite how we feel. Also, the woman at the well. Jesus saying she had five husbands and the one she's living with now is not her husband being evidence that cohabitation is not marriage in God's eyes. That marriage is something more. -- Just discovered your sermons, enjoy them and am learning much. May God continue to bless you, as He is blessing others through you.

Pray but keep your funds seperately. Do not give him any money and do not pay for any debt if he has taken any. Be strict and firm and set your boundries. If possible talk to him and if he wants to get rid of the addiction then you can together set a gambling block on him if its available where you live. It helps. If the gambling is triggered by alcohol, he must get rid of that addiction too or it will not end. Be strong. May the Lord bless you both and keep you from harm. You can message me privately if need to talk.

Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. - 1 Peter 3:1

Oh honey, gambling addiction is so devastating. Please set very strong financial boundaries, make sure he doesn't have the main control of your finances. Find out what triggers make him gamble, if it's alcohol then make sure that's minimised. If there is support groups please consider contacting one for support. Please make sure that you have plenty of self care and take care of yourself. I'm praying for you.💕

I have listened to a lot of talks on marriage and read a lot of books. I think I got the most out of this message than all the others. I had recently prayed asking the Lord what I could do-- what am I doing wrong, etc... and this is was the answer I received. I sort of knew this before, but this message made it very clear. It has given me a paradigm shift-- a new way of seeing things, which is what I think I needed. I really wish I would have known this before getting married or at least early in our marriage. We have been married for a long time. Both are committed to staying married, but suffering in the process, not really resolving the issues. Thank you Pastor Vlad for your teaching, but also for being so transparent and saying hard things that others are afraid to do. We need the truth. You also made me laugh too, which was nice. God bless you and your lovely wife.
