Three-Horse Title Race & Arsenal Look Dangerous! | Fan Debate 2024

Спорт

The Fan Debate is back, sponsored by Sky Bet, with Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher alongside The Traitors star Harry Clark and some of the biggest fan channels in England.
As the Premier League season comes into its final stretch the only place to start is the title race as league leaders Liverpool host treble-winners Manchester City on Sunday. Is it pivotal for the title race and could free-scoring Arsenal potentially capitalise on Saturday evening?
4th and 5th place are still up for grabs, but who will miss out on Europe between Aston Villa, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur? And why are season ticket prices so high?
It’s been a disappointing season for Chelsea, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace; why has it gone so wrong for the three clubs and what can they expect from now until the end of the campaign?
Everton have had to deal with a points deduction as they battle avoid the drop, but could Luton Town define the odds and stay up in their first Premier League season?
Finally we talk about club ownership and the impact of the financial fair play’s profit and sustainability rules.
We are nearing the 1 million subscription mark so please do not forget to hit subscribe to not miss another Fan Debate or Stick to Football episode.
We’ll be back next week with a Traitors themed special… 👀

The thing about Chelsea is that they look like they want to do what Arsenal did but they’re skipping steps massively. What Chelsea need to understand is that there is no shortcuts to a proper rebuild. It will take years. Money can buy you players. But money can’t buy you a structure, long term planning and vision. That has to be developed over time and unfortunately for Chelsea, that takes time.

Since 20/21 according to Transfermarkt Chelsea are top with €1.44B, City 2nd with €726M, Arsenal 3rd w/€674M, United 4th €671, Spurs 5th €656, Newcastle 6th €507M, Liverpool 7th €485M, West Ham 8th €460M. Arsenal have made one of the biggest losses and been one of the biggest spenders over the past 3 seasons, so they should be winning titles. I wouldn't be surprised to see them have to make some big sales over the next couple years if they don't start winning things.

@@Stegibbon You are clearly missing a few VERY important facts there. And you are even wrong when you claim that Ajax won the Eredevisie every year under ten Hag. They always managed to get top 2, but they didn't always win it. Either you are hiding the facts or you need to educate yourself more on Ajax. The reality is that Overmars had to leave because of some sexual harassment he did. And most if not all quality players at Ajax got sold the year ten Hag came to United apart from one that got sold last summer. Ajax got totally stripped of quality players at the same time as they lost Overmars that was an extremely important part of the puzzle at Ajax. Ajax turning shite after ten Hag left has extremely little to do with ten Hag leaving. The reality is that every single aspects of running the club Ajax well was already in place before ten Hag started there. Including the play style and how they trained their academy players for that play style. All recruitments were done to fit that play style and there was in reality not much for ten Hag to do there to do well in the Eredevisie. With the squad they had at that time, almost any manager in the world would have managed to get 1st and 2nd in the Eredevisie. And Ajax had in reality only one great season in the Champions League with Ajax under ten Hag and that is something we have seen many not so good clubs with not so good managers have managed both before and after them. It is ALL about the facts and not rumours, myths and hearsays. I am so tired of United fans thinking ten Hag is a great manager when he in reality has done NOTHING that is great or proving he is capable of being great at all. Most United fans have not watched one single Eredevisie game and most have not watched a full Champions League game Ajax have played. At least 99% of all United fans are totally clueless about ten Hag's in game management at Ajax because they NEVER watched a game. And still they think they know everything about ten Hag as a manager. Most likely including you. I have watched almost every game Ajax have played for the last 20+ years, so I am confident I have much more knowledge about Ajax than most United fans.

The answer to selling academy players to abide by profit and sustainability rules is to require a number of academy players for the squad registration, not just homegrown in the nation but homegrown at that club. I believe a better system would be forced to dissolve your largest contract/wages if you're in breach of FFP, and then a lock until you're below the FFP threshold. It would make clubs like Chelsea be very considerate of purchase of players or just lose the player and eat the cost, rather than telling an academy player they basically wont play at the club they're growing up in. it would stop single season splurging, where they have to see if an expensive player works for them. no points deduction just dissolution of players, if you risk losing your best player clubs will spend more responsibly. Also, they could force clubs to put total contract value in an escrow account up front.

Add in commercial pressures, expensive tickets, limited availability & pressure to go to a PPV I would say enjoy the last few years of "competitive" football.

without the financial constraints you'd get more states etc buying PL clubs making it even harder for clubs from the championship and lower half of the table to compete. It would cause even more inflation to a level we've never seen ( Imagine another 4/5 PSGs and what they did to market ). The ripple effect across Europe would make it even harder for clubs in other leagues to compete financially and only embolden the want for a super league. The only place that would be able to compete with PL fees and wages would be Saudi

Think about it, if a club is only allowed to lose 105m only three years, you've spent that already on one player in hopes of trying to just be able to compete.
