Andy Cole: Goals, Fallouts & Being Rooney’s Idol | Stick to Football EP 30

Welcome back to Stick to Football, brought to you by SkyBet. On today’s episode we are joined by Premier League legend Andy Cole.
Wayne Rooney also makes his first host appearance alongside Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott as the panel welcome the treble winner Cole.
With 187 Premier League goals to his name, Cole is regarded as one of the finest strikers to grace England’s top-flight, where he won five Premier League titles, two FA Cup’s, a Champions League and League Cup.
Cole talks about learning his trade at Bristol City before cementing himself as a regular goalscorer at Newcastle followed by his move to Old Trafford.
The Treble winner also opens up about his kidney transplant and how his nephew saved his life.
Finally we welcome Andy’s son and Barnsley striker Devante Cole, who finished the season as the third top goal scorer in SkyBet League One and chats about the influence that his father had on him.

Most important was vs Spurs on the final day of the 1999 season. United needed to win to secure the league. Went 1-0 down, becks equalised, Coley got the winner just after half time. Pipped Arsenal by one point.

For the United haters, just so you know, King Cole also played for Newcastle, Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Sunderland, Bristol City, Birmingham City, Burnley and Forest. He is the fourth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history with 187 goals, and used to hold the Premier League records for most goals scored in a 42-game season, the fastest player to score 50 goals, and the first player to top both the Premier League's goalscoring and assist charts in the same season. More than deserves to be a guest here.

It's only now as an adult I fully appreciate what Keane did, I was 9 when we won the treble and obviously I loved Yorke/ Cole/ Giggs/Beckham as they were the ones getting involved in attacks but now I realize Keane was the irreplaceable one. What he did in Turin will be talked about in centuries to come.

@@brettpilkington9539true but honestly they all did their bit. United we’re a well oiled winning machine led by a resolute manager and his winning mentality and relentless work ethic captain. Scholesy unlocked defences, giggs mesmerised them, Becks wiped balls in behind and scored mind boggling free kicks, Irwin was ever dependable and assisted (pens and odd free kick), Stam was a giant, brown was versatile, O’Shea committed… etc etc, Schmeichel omfg what a player. We haven’t even come remotely close with what we have now. Unfortunately the likes of Liverpool and now city have.

This is why Stick To Football is one of, if not the best footy show going on YT, TV or any streaming platform. 15 minutes in and no big laughs. The vibe and tone of all episodes is based on the personality of the guest or the topic being discussed. No need to force jokes or force laughter. If it's funny, it's funny. If the discussion is serious, it's serious. Nothing forced. Many talk shows can learn from this.

On the other hand he's starting to undermine his image as a hard-man when you see him in the background like this: (2:26) 😁🤣 I've started watching English Football at around the start of this podcast, but I get the impression I've watched him getting more comfortable in that period. In short clips his grumpiness distracts from it, but there was always an uneasiness, and as I understood it these were the people he actually knows and likes. 😁 I come from a part from Holland where literally everyone is like him, outwardly gruff and terse, but if you get a nod and a "that'll do" it's the highest praise and from that point they'll have your back against all the devil's in hell.

He’s not underrated whatsoever. I don’t know what it is at the moment but people across KZread when it comes to football massively overuse the word ‘underrated’. He’s always in the conversation about Premier league top strikers of all time, the difference between him and a lot of the others is that he just doesn’t really have much of a public profile in his retirement so younger people aren’t as aware of him. That does not make him. “underrated”.
