Thomas Lang Learns "Lux Æterna" As Fast As Possible
Drumeo loves daring drummers to learn songs on the spot - especially if it's in a style they don't normally play. International clinician Thomas Lang is one of the only pros we've challenged who really isn't confined to one or two genres: he plays everything from fusion to metal.
We asked him to learn "Lux Æterna" from Metallica's 2023 album 72 Seasons. As fast as possible.
(He'd never heard the song before, but we did let him listen to the original drum part to see if he could quickly replicate it!)

Man nailed his Dream Theater audition. Not surprised to see him kill this too. What a powerhouse.
@arqz4821
6 ай бұрын
Wouldn’t exactly say he nailed it, he nailed DT’s actual songs, but he failed in one sector. They gave him an unknown prog riff, and he had to come up with his own drum part as fast as possible, now thats where his young arrogance got the best of him and thats also how Dream Theater did not select him. He’s definitely more mature, still an absolute unit of a drummer. He was arrogant and usually showed off at a young age, but now he really professionally display’s the level he truly is on without ruining the song, but rather by serving it
@lingonberriesofwrath1836

@@arqz4821 He did nail that audition. The video of the audition that Dream Theater chose to show was edited in a way so that Mike would appear to be the superior drummer. But all of the other drummers were technical equals. Knowing Thomas work, that he would have trouble with DT stuff is impossible. It's just that they showed clips where he would come off as having problems. I'm pretty sure you could edit that video in a way so that Mike would seem like a total noob.

They said that it doesnt matter and he should come anyways. It was never a competition and they werent searching for a drummer... they knew they wanted Mike Mangini and then just invited some exceptional good drummers for having a fun show.

I absolutely love this dude's energy. BIG fan!
What's so awesome is just how much fun Thomas is having playing this track!
In all honesty, I opened KZread this morning looking for some meditation videos and veered off into drum covers. Natural transition, wouldn't you say? Thomas is amazing in how quickly he puts stuff together. What I love the most is how much fun he shows this song is to play. I mean let's face it, drumming is the best meditation anyway, right? Thanks to everyone who made this possible. Metallica forever!

@@camthesooner123 name one song Thomas wrote, or album he made that sold millions. Or music scene he helped start……I’ll wait. He’s amazing, and so is Lars.
the best part is seeing someone use his own language for crib sheets, like many of us do. You end up speaking a shorthand language unto yourself; and having been in touring bands that did the same thing, I'd get to see these incredible little works of structural language on the stage or on stands, that guided these pros through songs. This is great stuff.
😂😂😂it’s bloody ridiculous how amazing Thomas is…..much respect….definitely took the song to another level. This guy is a beast, a musical chameleon, he could slot into any genre. But his musical knowledge enables him to dissect this song and reconstruct it. Always impressed by his talent…..Lars watch out buddy, this guy could put you out of a job in a heartbeat 😂😂😂😂
