Oh! The time I’ve lost by taking a shortcut… sometimes a guy can get so focused on his destination he forgets to plan his trip. In the pioneer days, the trails were littered with all matter of treasures and dreams shattered by that reality. Is it possible to have your tailgate all three ways? Can you Add a set of barn door hinges without demolishing the drop/lift gate that you now have? It would really be sweet to be able to switch out tailgates to configure the bed to what the current job needs… However, it will still require you to plan the trip before you are blinded by the destination! Neil, I hope y’all had a wonderful Independence Day…

I was so hopeful this could be an easy solution to hauling multiple pieces at once, but it is cumbersome. Taking the tailgate completely out eliminates the usefulness of the truck on site as an actual dump truck. There's a local excavator and a friend of mine that hauls his skid loader in the bed of his dump truck and then hauls his trencher on the trailer. He does it everyday and he has a really nice system for it. He has a barn door tailgate on his truck and it works in all three directions like you suggest. It's a tricky modification and probably pretty costly, but I think it would save me time and effort in the long run. I'm really hoping to pursue a barn door style hinged tailgate on both trucks to make doing this easier plus hauling firewood. We had a wonderful 4th of July! Plus a bonus is it turned into a 4-day weekend! Hope you've enjoyed yours as well Dave!

Brings back so many memories of been there done that many a time back in the 80's into the early 90's, with a mini track-hoe and a 1845c in the bed, 821c on the deck (tires hanging over the edges) of the tilt deck beaver tail, with the 60inch tree spade on the end of the tilt deck. For sure over legal weight limit, but one has to do what needs to be done. (good thing there were no cell phone cameras back then) You should look into a longer tilt deck, get a slip tank on one side of the frame, and a small set of frame work attached to the trailer frame to hold those ramps, so you always have them with you as needed. Always a party when having multiple pieces of equipment with one operator doing all the work..😅

Nice job on the landscaping. I think if they used river rock around the cement pad as a transition from lawn to cement it would provide a beautiful accent and drainage all in one. As far as Louie goes I'd put a winch mount on the top of box to lower/raise the tailgate and add a short set of ramps that can clip on. Way less modifications.

I literally leaned this lesson this past week. Last year, I bought an above ground pool and put it under some pine trees that I wanted to have taken down. Long story long, after only using the pool a few times last year because it was always dirty I just got it filled up this past week. Had I got the trees cut last year I would have been money ahead, time ahead, and would have been swimming long before it got uncomfortably hot to get in said pool. I may have a giant hot tub now, but at least it’s clean!

The engineer insisted on concrete piled up behind the storm drain in front of our house which led to not enough soil for the sod to survive the drought last year. I am trying to reseed the area, but it is requiring constant watering. Moral of the story, don’t bury concrete where you want grass to grow. Project is looking good.

Grab welder and put hooks on the bed up near the pins you took out and get two chains made up that will hold door from going all the way down - kinda like a pu truck tail gate. I have them on my 6 wheeler louie and that way you can just drop gate and leave it on the truck instead of taking gate all the way off when hauling long logs etc etc or loading tractor in back. I use spray paint on the links so I know where to hook it to get gate even with the bed when lowering. My gate clears landing gear on my trailer so I can run with it down when tag trailer is hooked up. If I do have to close and by my self I will jack knife the truck and trailer and use skid on the ground to pus gate up into place. If im hauling the mini .. well most of theses problems are eliminated. haha Great video ! Keep them coming

Running out of fuel has only happened to me enough times to count on 1 hand . Once as a kid after my grandpa told me to check it b4 bush hogging .... and of course a 10 year old kid knows more than his grandpa so that day i was taught hoe to crack injector lines 1 by 1 and bleed a fuel system . After that it was mostly when im in a different machine on site and the guage is off or doesnt work at all. I am the type of guy who gets antsy when im near 1/4 tank and i know better but it happens !!! Out of all the super crappy emissions junk on new equipment i have to say they got the fuel systems figured out !!! You cycle the key a couple times and they fire right back up . Its awfully hard on the fuel system though

Always a party when having multiple pieces of equipment with one operator doing all the work..😅
That grader box cleaned up that yard really good 👍. You definitely need the barn door. I use mine sometimes 4-5 times a day now. I know you don’t use that truck all day everyday like I do but the time you would same . I mean I remember the times I was trying to get my jobs done and messing with the gate . It even fell off at the stump dump in one of my earlier videos 😂 if there was no loader there I’d be in trouble. Well worth the time to put one on . Great vid !
That's more work than what that paint job is worth.
You should fab up a bracket on your trailer to hold a can or two of diesel. Always good to have on the job site.
you might consider a hybrid tailgate that will pivot at the top pins, or open like a barn door. Best of both worlds. Thanks for another great video.
I appreciate that you show the wins and the losses. Thanks
Awesome work sir! Looking forward to seeing the final layout
All those tools doesn't run on hopes and dreams only. But you got it all done in the end.
It’s Sunday! Got my DDD hat on while working around the house and on my projects! My favorite quotes from today’s “episode”………”I am sure I forgot something but that’s okay, I’ll remember when I get there”…”if you don’t want dirt somewhere, don’t put it there”…. Nice work thinking through things. …and you read my mind! I love how you made the door into a ramp off the trailer!
Those folks yard is looking drastically better which is the most important part. I hope he lets you sneak inside his shop for a shop tour. That thing looks awesome!
That’s hilarious. The struggle is real. I think I would have taken two trips. Thanks for a good laugh. Have a great day Neil
Thank you for your weekly posts, I look forward to them as all the other individuals I follow on KZread are not near as entertaining as your's, I appreciate all your hard work!!
I absolutely hate that prepay for gas has made it's way to the upper midwest. The theft of anything is a big city thing & big city policies need not apply to small town America.
Great stuff! Me and my kids cant wait to see this job completed
I really enjoy your content, Neil. I have learned a lot from watching your content, and I really think I want to get into some sort of metal fabrication when I get older. I'm definitely a girl who likes to get my hands dirty! And I appreciate all the times ur wife and kids work with you. 😊😊

Really appreciate it!
Wow that was a great idea to bring it all home. Stay safe sir. Love to watch the way you get things done.
I have found over the years that the best lessons learned hurt more! Don't feel bad, we all try to save time out of a little laziness, but when it bites, we learn! 😩
Nice work as always Neil, some of the best learning experiences don’t come easy but as always you made the best of it. 😀👍👍👍
👍 Looks fantastic. He's gonna' need some sort of drain, French or whatever if he doesn't want that edge to be permanent, that's a lot of water. Man, those ramps were sketchy, glad you're ok.
Careful what you wish for. We had a barn door tailgate on one of our dump trucks. Had a lot of problems with it. It kept disconecting on one of the latches and would fall down and then wouldn't close. I'm not sure if it happened when the gate was slammed or what but the boss says never again. May want to ask around and get some other opinions on those gates before making it happen. Have a good one Niel!
Good Sunday morning & may God bless you all beyond measure today
My cousin had a dump truck and always needed red diesel for the boring machine . He found a small saddle tank and mounted it to the frame of the truck next to the truck saddle tank and added an electric transfer pump and always had fuel on the job for off rd equipment .
The man has balls of steel and he doesn't even know it!
So the concrete is under the gravel, good. The village gave us a new road two years ago, with curbs.

A comment out of ignorance of the drainage design.
The trick I used to deal with the half(gr)ass weeds/grass/hard soil was a 36 inch spring tooth drag on an ATV, we all took turns driving the ATV around. worked great. But renting a soil conditioner or a PTO tiller is the better way to do it.
Your end result looks really good. Personally, I would have backed the skid steer in the truck used the loader to close the tailgate then loaded the tractor and grader box on the trailer.
Dirt is what you find in your carpet soil in the yard-a quote from my soil geologist.
Always love your posts and seeing what you and the family are doing.
Appreciate you recognizing a learning experience and what you learned from it. Thanks for the videos!
Nobody got hurt. That a success.
We are so much alike it is funny. I Get an idea like this and it drives me crazy thinking about it until I actually do it. Then when I make time to do it I either have no fuel, a flat tire, dead battery, or get pulled away by some other "emergency." Then I get it done and realize I forgot to press record or I was so focused on the task I never setup the camera. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for sharing your whoas with us.
live & learn Neil! great job either way!!!
A nice skeleton bucket for scooping and shaking the soil out and holding the rocks and debris would be ideal!
Only 2:35 into it and I keep hearing you say “I really need an AMI Ruckus Rake like Dirt Perfect has” 😂 9:08 - Ah Haaaa! 😆 What’s that old saying? “You can pay me now or, you can pay me later but, you’re going to pay me!” That goes for time, as well as money, spent on something 😁
You can thank Uncle Joe for that low priced fuel. lol.
The old learning the hard way, yep I've resorted that a fair bit in my lifetime. Glad to have you on the team Neil!
The big ramps will make it a lot easier. You need to make sure you have some way to pin/secure them to the dump bed - as real bad things will happen if they slide out..
Gracias 🙏 ❤
Thanks and GOD BLESS
Love the video Neil and your chanel to .
Very impressive and educational.
You are a true artist with that grader box!
Brother you're too hard on yourself. You know what you're doing. Sometimes we just have bad days is all.
Sometimes I feel like you're taking the loader off the 755 just to mock me 🤣

No, you just inspired me to do it more often! 😂
That diesel would cost about 440 dollars here in the UK for the same amount. It's grim mate 😔
Great job - good learning curve!
Looked like there was a little pucker factor going on when you drove the tractor up the car ramps and those boards to get it in the dump truck. Glad it all worked out ok though.
Good morning Neil!

Morning!
The oh it dented it was so calm. I totally would had cussed for about 15 minutes
hope it doesn't fall, falls. That's what I call comedic timing! I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing with you cause lord knows I've been there!
Just a thought you could have the 750 go backwards so you can use front loader to put your tail gate back on the truck. Just a thought as i was watching this video.
I personally would’ve backed the tractor into the back of the truck then you could’ve tailgate with the tractor. Just keep that in mind for next time yeah it looks great by the way.
Weld some Tiedowns in the bed so you can secure your tractor
I vote for a larger trailer.
good video as always! u guys are having it so good there in the US, here in sweden the same amount of diesel will be 411.5 dollars
Now you need a hand hold pump that runs off a cordless drill so you can get fuel out of the dump truck for the skid steer
Neil, anytime I can see you use your box blade graded in a circular motion, life is good! I enjoyed the layout of your plan for the property, you helped me understanding the importance of grading both rough and finish, the usage of your equipment.... And doing all of this by yourself. 250 for gas, how much would you charge for doing this work if the painting of the truck was not involved? Enjoyed as usual and thanks for sharing!

I wonder how much you would charge for doing your basic box blade repair driveway? I love this video! It was great to watch and listen to what you will do on the project!
That’s how it goes. You think you’re saving time but in the end you spend hours doing a 10 minute job. Glad to see that I’m not the only one who goes through this.😤😂
Enjoyed the episode. Always learning.
Tough one today Neil, but true to your spirit you made the best out of it. Please take these comments as good-natured as they are intended. Guess you did need 300 dollars of fuel. I too find it difficult to sometimes switch on the fly. Seems like you had a plan in your head and made it work no matter what. How difficult is it to swap tailgates? Louie getting a friend or getting traded? Guess ill have to keep coming back to find out. Have a great week and see you next Sunday.

Ha! You're right I did need that extra $50 for sure!! 😊 I'm hoping maybe Louie gets a modified tailgate one day! Thanks for continuing to come back my friend!

Another great video. You have an impressive ability to talk through your work plans beforehand in a way that makes it easy for me, a notice to understand and visualize. Additionally, how well you roll with the punches when things don't go your way, is something I aspire to. Question, does the skid steer fit in the bed of Louie or is it too wide? Might that have given you more options for loading all the equipment?
Hi Neil, maybe if you fit a manual winch in the back up high on the truck to use it when raising the rear shutter?
Well, now you know. Nice job
Neil, very cool content. Great job grading. Carl FONDEROSA FARMS MD
Love your videos! What about backing the tractor into the bed after dropping the tailgate? That way you can use it to raise the tailgate and drop it again when you have to offload. I find baking up a trailer/ramp and driving off easier than the inverse.

Might work pretty good!
Sometimes our brains get in our own way... I like to blame my folks for it when it happens to me, but it happens way too often as I get older. ;)
@ 10:47 we may have to give you a Kleeman Award for the sketchiness of this endeavor, let's see tailgate held up on blocks, car ramps and boards to cross to finish off. You are dangerously close here!
Landscaping, not my content preference, But my experience with your channel has taught me , So i skipped through it. Watched you problem solve. If that was as hard as your day got ,you had a great day. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your adventures. It is appreciated. Best wishes for continued success.

Thanks for giving it a look. I'm curious though, what is your favorite type of content from the videos I make? I always wonder what people prefer since I do tend to mix it up a bit. I always always appreciate your comments. Thanks so much for coming back! 🙂
Good job on the big haul !
Yeah, I have also spent hours trying to save minutes.
Could you back the skid steer into the dump bed and then use the skid steer to close the tailgate? Deere would then go on trailer. Just an idea.
with you living in the middle of farm country, and all of the farmers around you know. find you some animal compost / manure to amend the soil before you plant seed this fall. you might be even able to find a farmer that has a manure spreader and use it too. a few loads on that bear dirt would do wonders for growth. and then use the Harley rake to finish it off.
I hear the upset Killdeer. I wonder how many nests you smooshed
