This Week in Volcano News; Major Eruption Danger at Ibu, Ruang Update

This week, the destructive eruption of Ruang in Indonesia appears to have finally ended. However, at the same time, another volcano in the country known as Ibu now has a risk of producing a major explosive eruption. As a result, thousands of people were evacuated. Meanwhile, the Taal volcano produced an uptick in sulfur dioxide emissions while at the Slamet volcano its exclusion zone was expanded. This video will discuss these stories and list the 45 volcanoes which are currently erupting around the planet.

As for a comment on this week's volcano news, Iceland Reykjanes volcano seems to be in a state of "why hasn't it erupted by now?" Its magma chamber just like before the last eruption began has surpassed a volume of 13.8 million cubic meters, which suggests that if an eruption were to occur that it could be larger than average. The Reykjanes volcano could technically erupt with as little as 30 minutes notice, although there does not appear to be an ongoing magma run at least as of when I typed this comment.

This channel is awesome!! He gives us a well thought out and comprehensive breakdown, and does it in a way we can all understand. If I see something major happened, geologically speaking, I always come here to find out what's going on. _edit: I just got to the part where he talks about the donations. It sucks he had to do it, but it speaks volumes about a person who uses their channel to help others._
Amazing news, great job helping these people in need!!
Thanks as always! It is lovely to see that everyone's donations are making an impact. The Indonesians everyone helped are now happy, thanks to all of you, everyone!
i'm so glad that the ad revenue were not misused.
One thing I love about your videos is how you summarize how many volcanoes are erupting on any given day!
How awesome that viewers of this channel were able to make a significant impact in the lives of people affected by that eruption!
Its grear to see you getting sponsored 👍👍👍👍
Glad you got a sponsor you deserve a lot more
*Congratulations on the sponsorship!!* And a huge thank you for putting in accurate timestamps so we can skip to the news stories!
That's so nice of you and the community to reach out and help the people affected by Ruang. Kudos!
Congrats on the sponsorship, your channel deserves it for sure ❤
Great update and fantastic that donations can have a direct impact on peoples lives like that, well done those who helped.
Glad to see you finally getting sponsored! You've come a long way
You are the Viceroy of Volcano 🌋.
From what I've seen, most major news outlets only report on volcanic eruptions if they have the potential to cost a significant number of lives, cause vast sums of money in damage to buildings, disruption to air travel, and they can get hold of dramatic video of the event. Hunga Tonga Hunga Hua'api didn't make it to the news, and the ongoing events in Iceland only get mentioned when it looks like Grindavik is in danger, or the activity will close Keflavik Airport. Even then, you can't rely on them to get things right. Last week, The BBC reported on the Marapi eruption causing floods and 'cold lava'. They meant 'lahars'... and I said a great deal about thier ineptitude and indolence on another video from this content maker!
@flambe

Hunga Tonga Hunga Hua'api absolutely made breaking news, at least on the BBC. But this was also likely in relation to many of your points as it did have a threat to life, infrastructure, air travel etc.
@malcolmyoung7866
24 күн бұрын
Hunga Tunga Hua’api was mentioned on U.K. news outlets but only about a week after the event when the extent/force of the eruption hadn’t been ascertained.. it was the lack of communication to the island that was the ‘main story’.. you are right unless people are killed/property destroyed then most news outlets are interested..
@malcolmyoung7866
24 күн бұрын
IIRC it was only mentioned because it was the first eruption ‘caught’ from outer space by (again IIRC) the ISS (might be wrong there) so the news outlets had footage to show.. hardly anything regards the tsunamis affecting the nearby islands etc.

Its getting bad when i get information about my province from a site covering volcanos. Information is being lost to a variety of reasons, but we need it more now than ever before!
Nice you have a sponsor for a product I'm already using and love! 👍

It's interesting. Your choice of example for the ground news ad was different from what most youtubers would use.

Media talked so little about raikoke, sunset were purple for more than a year but searching online all you could find was nibiru😂or artificial sun to replace our dead star😂😂 It took few months before i found a video about volcanic sunset and raikoke eruption
Quite possibly the best source anywhere for volcano related stuff.. and the explanations and reasoning for any conclusions given clear and concise(as one can be regards volcanoes I guess) been a sub for a long time must say my understanding of volcanos is greatly improved. I live in Scotland in an area littered with extinct volcanoes …obviously I have to explain to everyone what’s what etc much to their annoyance… keep up the great work and an awesome effort regards the charity donations to the people affected by Ruangs ‘naughtiness’!!
Thank you.
Very charitable of you and a credit to all who donated, sadly I am unable to help as even a hair cut is a waiting game when your on a pension. Take care.

This was no where near as large as Hunga Tonga, if that level of eruption occurred at Ruang nobody within a 20 mile radius at least would’ve perished.

Could you talk about Rocky Butte in Portland, Oregon? I think it was a volcano at on point in time. Also, any other extinct volcanoes right in the middle of cities. Thank you. 🙂🖖💕
campi Flegrei updates?
Every vid I watch of yours I go to both the usgs shake map and switch to terrain, as well as google earth and switch to the same filter. I noticed when looking that Slamet from this vid might be sitting at the southern edge of a caldera system, maybe a remnant. Not just that it maybe a nested system due to other crater edges in spots in and around the volcano and caldera zone. A notable example is to the southwest where a oval shaped crater where part of it is buried under the westward Slamet ridge at its foothills but the other half is visible though eroded a little. There is also what looks to be a crater remnant halfway down the volcano northwest from the main cone. Not sure but it might be a larger system alltogether. If not well at least its geologically interesting or noteworthy. Maybe an ancestral caldera system similar potentially to Vesuvius.
❤❤

Is Campi Flegri getting ready to have an eruption? Would that affect flights in and out of Naples? Are residents in the immediate and surrounding areas of Campi Flegri safe, and what, if anything, could residents do to create some kind of kit that can be helpful if gasses or volcanic ash are erupted?

Hi everyone! 👋 Serious question. Are more volcanoes blowing their heads off now as opposed to 30 years ago? Just curious.
@davidcranstone9044
25 күн бұрын
Almost certainly not. I doubt if it is possible to give an absolutely definite answer, since so far as I know there was no list comparable to GeologyHub's, definitions will have changed, and eruptions at some of the remoter volcanoes would not have been known about. But there is absolutely no reason to think there has been any change.

Imagine, you bought beach front property on an island, and the government tells you you're not gonna live there anymore. That makes Harry Truman the ultimate gangsta, telling the government he wasn't gonna leave when Mt St Helens erupted. Now is the government gonna pay these folks fairly, or rip them off, and dump them to n a shack??
soo that means you donated your add money right?lol

Do you think that the solar flare that happened has anything to do with these eruptions?
So wierd thought do you think the recent spike in volcanic disruptions have to do with the recent solar flare earth was just hit with?
