When Yondu opened the ball and saw the troll doll instead of the Infinity Stone, he couldn’t be angry. He laughed because he raised Peter Quill. Peter Quill tricked him and Yondu couldn’t help but be proud because he taught Peter everything he knew. Everything like stealing and tricking people. Yondu taught him well.😂

and Yondu loves such small figurines for his cockpit decoration... if you paid attention, he really had that little crystal figurine from "Eyebrows" on his cockpit panel. pretty sure the troll willsoon be there too.

Something about Yondu not being nice but also not being stupid, esp after now knowing what the stone does, what it is.🎉🌌

It sucks to have to cut out most of the incredible soundtrack in order to avoid copyright issues, but I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much. James Gunn really does an excellent job with the music for the Guardians. So happy to continue this MCU journey with you, Evie. Another wonderful reaction!

Guardians had the best soundtrack in all of the MCU. and it gets better as it goes along.

This movie was an unexpected - and bold - move for Marvel. Traditionally, superhero movies were always about the biggest name superheroes that everyone already knew and cared about. But no one ever heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Even hard-card comics fans were barely aware of them. They weren't just second-string characters, they were more like seventh-string characters. It seemed utterly ridiculous to me at the time that they'd even make this movie. But they didn't consult me, and it turned out to be one of the best MCU movies!

On the other hand, I haven't read ANY comics -- so all the MCU characters are the same "string" for me. Heck, the MCU *is* "Marvel" for me. Yes, I've seen the Blade movies, some (not all) X-Men, Daredevil, the first Spiderman trilogy, and maybe others -- but I never connected those to "Marvel". The name really only showed up in my view when everyone called it "Marvel Cinematic Universe" and they made characters from different movies meet. So now, MCU is the authoritative "Marvel" for me...

The "Winter Soldier" link worked just fine. Thank you for your effort.

The GotG movies are all about trauma. Mostly Peter's, but all of the Guardians are messed up in their own ways (except Groot, he's delightful). Watching them grow and heal across the trilogy has been wonderful.

These films give me hope for James Gunn's Superman film. He knows how to create a film with alot of character and see them grow throughout a trilogy of films while also being fun wacky adventures that doesn't take itself to seriously but also has it's dark and serious moments when needed. The whole cosmic aspect of Marvel is VERY interesting and I was surprised that they went with the Guardians a lesser known comic series dating back to the late 1960s but the line up we see in the film was only introduced in 2008 so pretty new by 2014. Fantastic Four were off limits as Fox owned the rights but Guardians was a great pick to open the door to the cosmic side of Marvel. I'm not sure if you've watched any DC films, keep it spoiler free just incase. But the DCEU (Connected DC universe) suffered from most of the films having the same tone and visual style, mostly the Zack Snyder movies. Basically characters like Superman had the same tone of Batman and they were overall much more edgier and "dark" creating this illusion that DC is at it's core darker than Marvel. But that's just because the DC films have adapted the style of the Nolan Batman films creating a trend of grounded dark superhero films instead of giving characters like Superman there own tone. So that's why I have hope for Gunn's Superman, give us a more wholesome, colourful depiction of the character with an Art Deco retro futuristic Metropolis and hopefully some cosmic stuff. Peacemaker is still my favourite Superhero project from James Gunn so I do highly recommend that along with his Suicide Squad film if you have not seen it.

Yeah I love the Nolan Batman films but they 100% created a shift towards darker more grounded Superhero's. Iron Man was heavily inspired by Batman Begins in terms of telling a modern Superhero origin story while also being grounded, Iron Man is a pretty grounded character anyways he's got no Superpowers and is basically just tech based so get that right visually and showcase how it's made you'll have a solid modern day Iron Man film. Marvel also focuses on real cities for the most part so New York for example is just that New York City with Marvel landmarks like Avengers Tower. While DC has whole fictional America cities with very unique designs from the Gothic Revival meets Art Deco Gotham City that's stuck in time between the 1930s to modern day to Metropolis an Art Deco City of Tomorrow inspired by the 1950s vision of the future. In the case of Nolan and later Zack with Man of Steel they just turned these two cities into basic American cities with no personality grounding them to the point where they started to lose the personality of the comics. Thankfully Marvel started to introduce more fantasy and later Sci Fi elements creating a grounded lived in world first and then introduce Gods and Aliens to now with Guardians where we're in space seeing these crazy planets and aliens. Hopefully Gunn's DC Universe is more comic book inspired visually and is not afraid to be unique visually. Like I would love if Gotham was stuck in the 1930s with Tommy guns and people driving around in retro looking 1930s to 1940s cars with a mix of old and new tech. Would be a big contrast to the MCU.

The Guardians are definitely my favorite sub-franchise in the MCU. So much fun, even in the littlest of moments. Like with frustrated Rocket (27:27): "You're making me beat up grass!" 🤣 But also heartfelt and moving. Love it!

Racoons are a specific species. Rodents are an entire family of species. Vermin is very generalized term for "undesirable creatures" Rats and Mice are rodents (family Rodentia), while squirrels are not rodents (Family Scuridia) but are all often considered "vermin"

Most of us was in awe on the post credit scene because that was Howard the Duck's first movie appearance since his solo movie from the 80's =) And yes, he actually is a character from the comics. In fact, both his creator Steve Gerber and Marvel have been in dispute with each other on the rights of the character until he passed away in 2008. Gerber never got to see Howard in the MCU, but I bet he would have hated seeing Howard wearing pants ;P Back then Disney demanded that Howard would wear pants because he looked too close to their own character Donald Duck, and he did wear it in one issue and it ended with him tearing the pants and saying screw this! =P But afterwards I think he started to wear pants all the time after Gerber passed away.

Fun Fact: when Pratt handed the orb over to the Collector, he really did drop it, but recovered and stayed in character, so Gunn kept it in the movie.

Without spoiling anything , every stone has its powers IF the person who use the stone knows how to do it. All of them are powerful as an energy thing but : The tesseract (blue)controls space , you can open portals ,travel all galaxies in am instant etc . The aether (red) controls reality , can alter reality ,change matter to something else etc. And because you know about the gauntlet already i would say to you to pay attention how the gauntlet works. Every time Thanos close hes fist that has the gauntlet,only then the stone works and the stone that works illuminates . All other time the stones are not active ever if Thanos has them on his arm and gauntlet.

Part two is just as good and the soundtrack is just as awesome. There's more Guardians mayhem and we'll get more Groot. Also remember the scene on Morag where Quill stole the orb. That scene will have huge relevance in a later film. So please take note Evie. Great reaction and I'm loving the Marvel films reactions. Please keep them coming. Onward to "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Looking forward to that one. Sending Canadian hugs to you and your kitties.

@@scover3 I agree with you,the 2nd film is weaker than the 1st and 3rd.The 2nd act with EGO was very boring and bland.I checked out mentally when that part came on. The first film is still my favorite.

This film is great. The cool thing about this, was that it was it was a big risk. Nobody knew it was going to be such a hit, especially because not even as many comic fans knew these characters. The music is definitely a high point. Haven’t seen a movie with a better soundtrack. The comedic timing is great, especially by Drax. He’s probably my favorite in this one. Although the comedy is great, it still pulls at your heartstrings at the end. “We are Groot” is classic, and will get me sniffle-y every time

This was an unexpected fun change of pace for the MCU. Suddenly we are in space! A lot of fun for sure.

It's always hilarious to me that nobody ever watches "Howard The Duck" before starting the rest of the MCU movies and TV shows.

well because it´s no MCU even if the comic was from marvel, and it´s an cheesy kids movie quality story, that is nice in itself, but not at all getting true to the original comics... maybe apart from 1 or 2 toned down adult jokes in it...

Love your reaction to this, especially the start. I went in to this at launch looking forward to a fun adventure time since it was about a month after I had watched my dad die of cancer in paliative care, that was rough start to the movie for me for sure but movie was so good that I was still smiling by the end.

Baby Groot is adorable. Love these movies, and sound track. Except it still bothers me that Peter didn't hold his moms hand like she asked just before her death. So depressing. Hey, Evie! "Guardians of the Galaxy" was an acquired taste for me. I like my science fiction sober so it always surprises me that the zaniness of this franchise appeals to so many. I reacted negatively upon initially viewing this bizarre, star-hopping hodge-podge of juvenile lunacy because it was at such variance with the source material! There were two fantastic comic book iterations of the team that I felt outclassed the cinematic interpretation: Jim Valentino's '90s Guardians which exist in an alternate 31st-century and Dan Abnett/Andy Lanning's '00s Guardians which is the basis for the movies. Each member of the Valentino team was the sole survivor of their kind including a time-displaced 20th-century character who served the same function Captain America did for the Avengers. They were freedom fighters struggling against an alien invader that occupied the solar system. The Abnett/Lanning team was cobbled together from a disparate group of characters who had been created by a variety of writers and artists throughout the decades such as Steve Engelhart, Mark Gruenwald, Jim Starlin, Chris Claremont, Gerry Conway, Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. The writing duo crafted a brilliant space opera that tied together all the elements of Marvel's cosmic gallery: the abstract entities, the Elder beings, the Celestials, Earth's space-based heroes and every major interstellar civilization. There was situational and character comedy naturally derived from a motley crew of misfits but the stories were serious and the stakes were real. Most everything is played for laughs in the film. Nevertheless, the humor mostly lands and there is an emotional resonance that carries the day. I do give director James Gunn tremendous credit for pushing the envelope and going for broke with these little-known characters bringing them to vivid life. He takes pains to authentically recreate Marvel's cosmic setting by incorporating organizations like the Nova Corps, facilities like the Kyln prison and wondrously grotesque objects like Knowhere, the severed head of a titanic Celestial that has been colonized by millions and mined of its cerebrospinal fluid! The cast is eclectic but fully committed to their characters which often deviate markedly from their comic counterparts. Chris Pratt is affable and affecting as Peter Quill but his bravado comes across as childish as opposed to the world-weary drifter Star-Lord is in the comics. Zoe Saldana is appropriately fierce as Gamora but is never given a proper showcase to confirm her as 'the deadliest woman in the galaxy'. Drax is presented as a fusion of the dense persona created by Jim Starlin in the '70s and the stoic bad-*ss persona he evolved into under Abnett/Lanning. Dave Bautista's impressive comedic portrayal threads the needle between the two versions spectacularly making his character a stand-out! Bradley Cooper nails Rocket Raccoon as a smart-mouthed, bitter, nasty piece of work. The only character in the bunch actually created by Stan Lee is Groot whose enigmatic portrayal is comic accurate and highly distinctive. There was no need for Vin Diesel to be cast in this part but he apparently learned how to say "I am Groot" in fifteen languages! Diesel would have been ideally suited to play Ronan the Accuser had he been rendered with fidelity. Instead, Lee Pace, a fine actor, was made to portray him as a ridiculous maniac while his comic counterpart is much more noble and complex. When viewed chronologically, this is Ronan's second appearance in the saga as well as Korath's again played by Djimon Hounsou. Three other characters making their second bow are Taneleer Tivan, the Collector, reprised by Benicio del Toro, his Krylorian servant Carina reprised by Ophelia Lovibond and the Chitauri spokesman known as The Other reprised by Alexis Denisof. The Nova Corps of Xandar are introduced led by Glenn Close's Nova Prime in an elaborate wig! Most notable among the Corpsman are John C. Reilly's Rhomann Dey and Peter Serafinowicz's Denarian Saal. Sharif Atkins and Brendan Fehr also play nameless Nova Corpsman. The space pirate Nebula who claims Thanos as her grandfather in the comics is repurposed as Thanos' second adoptive daughter and Gamora's rival in the film where she is played by Karen Gillan. Thanos himself, only briefly glimpsed in "Avengers", finally emerges from the shadows played by Josh Brolin. Gunn rounds out the cast with his usual stable including Michael Rooker as the Centaurian Ravager Yondu Udonta. In the comics, Yondu is from the 31st-century Valentino team of Guardians and he uses a bow to fire his yaka arrows whereas the movie sets Yondu among the Abnett/Lanning team of Guardians and cleverly has him whistle to control the flight of his sound-sensitive yaka arrow. Other Gunn troupe members are the director's brother, Sean Gunn, as Ravager Kraglin, Nathan Fillion as the lewd CGI inmate who gets hoisted by his nostrils and Gregg Henry as Grandpa Quill. Christopher Fairbank has a small role as a skittish broker. Laura Haddock plays cancer-stricken Meredith Quill and Wyatt Oleff of "It" plays young Peter. Tomas Arana has a bit part as the Kree Ambassador as does sepulchral-voiced Ralph Ineson as a Ravager pilot. Finally, Seth Green provides the voice of Howard the Duck! TRIVIA: 1. Chris Pratt lost sixty pounds for the role, Karen Gillan shaved her head and Vin Diesel stood on stilts when delivering his lines. 2. Director James Gunn rewarded any cast or crew member for especially good work with a can of Play-Doh. He gave out forty of them during the shoot. 3. Quill's ship, the 'Milano', is named after the character's childhood crush, Alyssa Milano. 4. In MCU-time, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" occurs just months after the first one in 2014 before "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015. EASTER EGGS: 1. Cosmo, the telepathic canine cosmonaut seen among the Collector's possessions and licking him at the end, actually commands Knowhere station in the comics! 2. Bereet, the alien girl aboard the 'Milano', is a deep-dive reference to a Hulk story where a female alien by her name accompanied Hulk and recorded his adventures! 3. The Power Stone contained in the Orb is the fourth Infinity Stone seen in the saga! CAMEO: 1. Stan Lee appears as a Xandarian Lothario with funky shades flirting with a young woman while Rocket is seeking potential bounties with his scanner. END-CREDIT SCENES: 1. A potted Baby Groot sways to the soundtrack while Drax polishes his blades. When Drax perceives the motion out of the corner of his eye, he turns and Baby Groot freezes in place until Drax turns away whereupon the potted twig resumes to boogie. 2. Sitting morosely amid the ruins of his Collection, a bandaged Tivan sips a tropical drink while Cosmo sympathetically licks his face prompting Howard the Duck to remark how gross that is while sipping his own beverage from the shattered remains of his display case. The next chronological stop in the MCU are the "I Am Groot" shorts "Groot's First Steps", "The Little Guy" and "Groot Takes a Bath" followed by Episodes 1 - 10 of Season 2 of "Agents of SHIELD".

Rocket and Howard the Duck are both from the same planet Halfworld and Yondu was one of the original Guardians of the Galaxy who would later recruit Rocket, and the toys on Yondu's console was a nod to The Toy War that was fought on Halfworld making toys a type of currency.

@@Metzwerg74 this was the origin from the comic, Halfworld was a planet that was home of the mentally ill and the anthrmorpic animals were the care takers of the patients, their cute appearance had a calming effect and the toys were given to the patients.

After watching Guardians of the Galaxy 3, all their screen time that came before it seems different. Better, having known more back story.

According to director James Gunn and Kevin Feige, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" occurs just MONTHS LATER in 2014 before "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015! You have the option of seeing it next WITHOUT SPOILING anything that comes after. Alternatively, you can see it five movies down the road by following release order. Either way works. It's up to you!

Most surprisingly good movie from MCU for me. I am still upset about Groot's dead. I consider baby groot more like Disney merch. The OG Groot in this movie is irreplaceable in my opinion.

Watch the groot series and guardians of the galaxy holiday special. But thats after infinity war.

The Dog in a space Suit is a reference to Lyka the first living thing humans sent to space. Lyka most likely burned up in the atmosphere tho…

I know to avoid spoilers you have to go in release order, but I'm looking forward to you reacting to GOTG Vol. 3. I just watched it a few weeks ago and it is phenomenal. I won't provide any spoilers, but I will say the humor of an the great music are trademarks of the GOTG franchise. You will enjoy all the movies.
