Hi Britt, I know you like stories, Toby said he was inspired to write this song, when he was playing a celebrity golf tournament and he was paired with Clint Eastwood, Clint was in his late 80s, Toby asked him how he kept producing movies and acting at his age. Clint said he gets up every morning and just does what he always does and he doesn't let the old man in.

Yes, but this evening, Tobi was thinking about himself while he sang the song and so did the whole audience, so it's a bit annoying that everyone focuses on the fact that he wrote the song for 90-year-old Clint, who can die at any time due to age. But here Toby wasn't thinking about Clint but about himself and his tired worn out body because of the cancer. So let him own the song as a so-called goodbye song.

@@newsooner1155 He chose this song to tell the audience something on his heart. Do you think he chose to praise Clint with his last appearance. Come on, try and use your head a little. That song fits any man near death. That night the song was about Toby himself so Clint wasn't relevant that night. Clint is still alive at 93 years old. Toby has died aged 62. It wasn't what Toby had in mind when he wrote that song. So that song ended up being about Toby himself. So that fact about Clint became the fight of Toby's own life which he lost. So the least you can do is take the last night Toby sang for what it was. Namely Toby's night.

I'm a 54 year old bridge builder and I get watery eyed watching this performance. Toby's bus would pass through a little town in Arkansas on occasion and stop at the tiny burger/shake joint on the side of the road. He would hold up his bus so friends and family of the employees could have time to get down there to meet him just because they asked him to. What a humble fun loving God fearing patriot. We got screwed on this one folks. God took a legend home. RIP Toby Keith

My father died from prostate cancer. At present I'm having prostate issues. I have already decided that if they discover cancer in me that I have no intention of taking Chemo or radiation. They say it starts with men over 50 when men start having issues, so I say to men take note. It says there is a much greater chance of getting it is you use dairy products and read meat. Some things to do for prevention is Pumpkin seeds, apricots, beets, olive oil etc. and more. Prostate cancer is to men as breast cancer is to women. Be aware and monitor. Blake Shelton a good friend of Toby said he's cutting back or quitting alcohol, good for him.

I’m having heart surgery on Friday and if one more doctor says “Bob at your age all surgery is life threatening “. My answer has been from this song…if you didn’t know the day you were born how old would you be…he wrote this song after playing golf with Clint Eastwood who told him he was making a new movie. Toby said how do you do it at your age? Clint said “I don’t let the old man in”. Toby went home and wrote this song and Clint used it in his movie.

Toby said this song was inspired by Clint Eastwood. Toby asked him one day, “How do you keep doing it?” (Clint is 93). Clint said, “I just don’t let the old man in.” Toby then wrote this song. It was played at the end of the movie “The Mule.” Ended up being quite prophetic.

He wrote it in 2018 for Clint as everyone has explained, but this was perfect for his goodbye song. This was September 2023, and he was receiving the People's choice Country Icon award. I think the reason we were all shocked at his passing, is that he performed 3 shows in Las Vegas in December. The man never quit until God decided it was time. My heart is broken. And yes, that was his wife. Another beautiful song by Toby is called 'Cryin' for me'. He wrote it as a tribute to his friend Wayman Tisdale, who also passed from Cancer. The song & video is beautiful & Toby's words of love, now describe how we are feeling about him. If you haven't seen it. Check it out. It is really beautiful.

No, he did not. Swift had been noticed by several people in the industry before initially being the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Tree publishing house. Swift left then BMG-owned RCA Records and was then signed by Scott Borchetta to Big Machine Records. While Big Machine Records did become a joint venture between Borchetta and Toby Keith, Keith had absolutely no part in signing Swift to that record label.

He most certainly helped her it cannot be denied. Her deal with Sony was irrelevant, her first record label and first record was with BMR which Toby funded to get it going. Scott wanted to sign her but Toby was definitely a reason why she signed because she looked up to him and he helped create the label. It was never really a joint venture because Toby had his own label but being a smart businessman he he got 2.5% royalties off of her. She has praised him multiple times up until 2016 when politics got in the way and now she is a liberal pos and wont say anything about him because of politics thats so shitty@@kristinkeiner6547

Clint Eastwood inspired this song during a conversation they were having. Toby asked him how he kept on working at his age (88 at the time) and Eastwood replied that he didn't let the old man in. Meaning that he didn't allow himself to think like an old man and stop living like he always had. No matter how old we get, we are still that person we have always been inside.

Toby said he was planning on singing something fun and upbeat, but the showrunner (I forget his name and exact job title) really wanted him to do this song. Blake Shelton played one of Toby's upbeat songs earlier, so that's part of why Toby wanted to do an upbeat song. But this song hit number 1 on iTunes after this performance. He wrote this song years ago after asking Clint Eastwood how he was able to keep grinding at his age, and Clint replied, "Don't let the old man in". Toby sent it to Clint and thanked him for inspiring the song, and Clint said in the movie he was working on, he is often referred to as the "old man". And Clint put the song in that movie. "The Mule" is the movie.

I am in my 70s, and I am trying to keep the old man outside, but I also have an affliction that will let him in faster than I want him to come in. The essence of spirit and the life in me is fighting to keep him out, but eventually, time will have its way with all of us. Old man time is unrelenting.

Good job young lady, Toby Keith- Cryin For Me (Waymans Song) ft. Arthur Thompson, Marcus Miller and Dave Koz is an awesome tribute song to his good friend Wayman Tisdale who played college basketball at Oklahoma and played in the NBA, was also a jazz musician who passed in 2009 at the age of 44

The song actually came from a conversation with Clint Eastwood when Toby met him at a Golf Tournament and Clint was talking about a new movie he was starting to film at 88 y/o. Toby said, man how do you do it? Clint said I get up everyday and I don't let the old man in. Toby said wow, I'm gonna write a song about that, and he did!! How fitting, that was 5 years ago. Tricia and Toby would have been married 40 years in March!!❤

he was playing golf with Clint Eastwood, and Clint said I need to go finish shooting this movie, Toby asked you 90 years old why do you still do this, Clint said i`m trying not to let the old man in, ...Toby was wow by the answer and wrote this song for Clint and put the song in his movie

I was so fortunate to see him in his last concert in Las Vegas this past December. After this performance. I have always been a Toby Keith fan since he came onto the scene. He played 2 straight hours, no opening act, no breaks. I watched entranced with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes. I still tear up when I see this performance. Such an amazing man.

He originally wrote this for Clint Eastwood movie The Mule that movie did not do as well as expected, so when they asked him to perform on this show everyone encouraged him to play this song and it shot straight up the charts

For some reason I ended up seeing this performance at the time and I found myself going “wait that’s Toby Keith? What the hell happened to him?” And that was how I found out he had cancer. It was so jarring to see him looking so thin. RIP to an absolute legend.

There is a video of Toby explaining how he came to write this song. He was playing with Clint Eastwood in Clint's golf tournament. It was Clint's 88th birthday and Toby asked him how he was going to celebrate that and Clint said he would leave the next day, for 3 months, to make a movie. That movie was "The Mule". Toby sent the song to Clint and Clint used it at the end of that movie. This was 2018, I think. It is such a beautiful song. RIP Toby. Girl, I have 40 years on you and my mind still thinks I'm 18.

I feel so honored and happy that I got to see him in concert twice. He was an amazing performer. But currently, I understand how he felt ..battling cancer takes a lot out of you. It's true what they say that the cure is worse than the disease. I've been battling cervical cancer since March of last year....I know he was so strong, and he showed me that you have to keep fighting. And I am...I will say I am a survivor. I wish he had the chance to say it. But I will keep his spirit and strength with me. Toby will never be forgotten. Thank you for watching and sharing this song... I know it was close to his heart. And yes, it was his wife. You were right.

Dont let the ole man in is what we just witnessed in this video. Don't let anything steal nor take what ya love doing, stay active just like TK did right here despite it all and do all you can do. He could have just gone away but nope, thats not him and what he did here is something all of us can learn from. The kids he supported throughout their cancer struggles, they saw him live life in midst of the fight and thats the example he left behind for all. What he did for us troops and those kids in Oklahoma at his OK Kids Korral is beyond words. Thank you brother, last of the mohicans here! Semper Fidelis

I just know I'm crying with the audience and his wife Tricia.. they were married almost 40 yrs.. he died at 62.. they, obviously, were together since they were like 20.. wow.. I can't imagine her pain.. I met my 2nd husband at 26.. he died when I was 40... we raised 5 children together.. it's been 15 yrs now since he passed.. I still miss him at times but I now right now Tricia is going through hell .. She was a great wife and stood by his side.. filled out all the paperwork and talked with all the doctors.. Toby said before he passed how she did everything.. I just feel her pain and the children's.. Toby is in a better place now. His pain is gone..
