Well said, he says his welfare is my concern caring about others ✌️
I'm 66 and still can't believe or understand why hate is still taught in this world. A child doesn't look at other children as being different. That seed of hate comes later from what they hear and see. As you said, we are all brothers and sisters and hating someone for being different has got to stop. We must open our arms and our hearts if mankind is to survive. I'm still waiting! PEACE...

I agree with you. I am 65 from south Louisiana and now it's like the government wants to go back to the 50's. I remember when they started to bus children to different schools. I still have friends from high school who are white, black, Mexican, from Asia. I am of American Indian, English, French, Spanish and Cuban. I just thought of myself as an American. When I moved to Texas and someone was talking about my mother speaking spanish so well because she was white. That is the 1st time I heard of someone calling themself brown.

If don't shed a tear to this song your not human. Much love everyone ❤️
Absolutely, you put your “brother” on your back and carry him during his time of need. “It’s a long, long road, from which there is no return.” Life is that long, long road. There’s no going back, we only get one chance at this! Love the reaction!

It's special because it is a Vietnam War Era song. So brothers in arms are also included in the overall sentiment. Beautiful song.

Yes Mel!! Plenty of reactors take this song literally. It's not about a family member, it's about your fellow man (or woman).
One of the best songs written. Vietnam was devastating to our young men and this song was the only tribute to them. Those boys fought for each other. They came home to a country that wanted to forget them.

Goodnight Saigon may have come around much later in the 80s, but it was 100% a tribute to Vietnam vets specifically. This song on the other hand has a much more generic slant to it's lyrics, you could easily take it to mean wartime or peace time with civil unrest/riots and all sorts in between them.

Any veteran that receives rejection is inhumane and total stupidity
So many of the 60s and 70s songs were about peace, love, & spirituality-No wonder so many of us prefer that time period of music. So many of these songs were about caring about the mindset of the people, and the state of the world. I wish people today would head back to these themes and learn from them. We are all members of the human race, and citizens of the world.. We need to remember that.

The Hollies were a sensational band. Their music is just timeless
I dedicated this song to my brother in 2009, after we buried him. He died by his own hand. I loved him so much.
One of the most underrated groups of all time.
This song always does two things: 1) I choke up 2) I think about doing a good deed. That is the power of great music.
This song covered a video of Viet Nam with American Evacs carrying wounded soldiers - during the height of the antiwar movement. It made a huge impact
This one is one of the greatest songs ever made. From this one it gives many other versions. But - this is absolutly the best - THE HOLLIES - with one of the best - for myself the best pop singer of all times and most underrated - ALLAN CLARKE from THE HOLLIES.

See beyond skin and cultural differences..we all need food, water and sanctuary. If you are down I will pick you up, my brother and sister
We're all brothers and sisters and we are on the road together.
I'm the last of 5 boys, 3 of us left. Thanks to our wonderful parents, we had a loving home, despite being poor. I always think of a picture they had on the living room wall. It was a "Boy's Town/Father Flanagan" ad or promo. It was two boys, one giving the other a "piggy-back" ride. The caption was: "He ain't heavy Father, he's my brother". Right before my father passed, we were at his bedside in the hospital, and he said that his one wish is that we brothers always remain close. This song hits the feels. 😔
One of the best songs ever in my opinion.
The Hollies are an English rock and pop band formed in 1962. One of the leading British groups of the 1960s and into the mid-1970s, they are known for their distinctive three-part vocal harmony style💗
One of the most beautiful songs EVER! Thank you Hollies and the writers of this song
Shawn & Mel, thank you for reacting to my favorite Hollies song! Your reaction brought me to tears. ✌️🎶💙
On this side of the pond, the Hollies were one of the most successful bands of the 1960s. They notched an unbroken chain of 21 successive top 20 hits between August '63 (Searchin') and October '70 (Gasoline Alley Bred) a feat that not even the Beatles could match. It's still a UK chart record. This chain also did not include two of their, now, best known songs: Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress ('72) and The Air That I Breathe ('74).
It’s a beautiful n beautifully sung statement of brotherhood and sisterhood, and caring for one another! It all starts in each of our hearts with a decision to be willing to care!
This song was written during the Vietnam war era, a time when a wave of love, peace and brotherhood swept over the world. This is such a beautiful song. This song was a huge hit. I like all the songs from The Hollies. ♥️
This is the song of the human journey...God made us all in his image. There are forces that have tried to tear us apart by pitting one against the other for thousands of years. But it IS a long long road. We just keep moving forward and making sure we keep the awareness of being humans first and foremost.
This song makes me hold my breath every time. I knew you would love this. Every time I hear this I think WHY are we not there yet? And now I cry. I do every time I hear it.
You got it , it was about brothers in humanity , it remind me of my dad he was in Vietnam x brotherhood of Man x
This was the most emotionally powerful song of my generation. An underrated masterwork.....
Song that transcends time and it’s meaning, very well done by the hollies beautiful song
One of my favorite songs of all time. Way before my time but a great song is a great song! Got to be honest my Mom turned me on to the Hollies...Love their music.
You're so right Mel. It's not about blood, it's about love. And I love you both, I really do. I see your love for each other when I tune into your channel, and I don't miss any of em. The lead singer is called Allen Clarke. He unfortunately has had to leave the band in recent years, because, in Allen's words in an interview "the voice has gone". He couldn't sing anymore 😢 But, he has all of those wonderful hits from back in the day. And now the younger generation are showing a new appreciation for the old tunes, thanks to reaction channels like yours. Again.... I love you guys. Just keep doing what you're doing. 🔥🎙🎵❤🇬🇧
'He Ain't Heavy, He’s My Brother' must surely be one of the most covered songs of all-time. Singers including (deep breath) The Ruffin Brothers, Glen Campbell, Gladys Knight and The Pips, Olivia Newton John, Al Green, Neil Diamond, and Barry Manilow have all recorded a version of it. Written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell, who was to die shortly after the song's release in 1970 from cancer.

The song was written for Boys Town, a place for wayward boys. Spencer Tracy starred in a film by the same title. This song has since become an anthem among US Military members; especially upon it's release and the Vietnam War and Vietnam Veterans as it was released during that tumultuous time.

It wasn't written for Boys Town, though the phrase has an earlier reference there and even much earlier. It was written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. Mr. Russell was dying of lymphoma, and passed within a year or so of completing the lyrics. Elton John was the original pianist on the recording session.
I'm a baby boomer great grandma who grew up in the 60s and 70s with what I think was the best ERA of music... I love watching you young ones appreciate the music that we had that we grew up with and the meaning behind the songs back then when music and the words went together to make something really special... And that 99.9% of it all is still relevant today in 2024❤😊
One of the most beautiful songs the Hollies ever put out. Just tugs on my heart each time I hear it. We need songs like this today. Songs that unite us, not divide us. Great reaction guys❤️
The lyrics are from a true story from the early 1900's I believe. A young disabled boy wore very heavy leg braces and getting around school, stairs and to the lunch room and bus pick-up was nearly impossible. A young amazing classmate took it upon himself to carry this boy into the school from the bus. Carried him to each and evert class, up and down the many stairs. At the end of the school day he carried him to the bus. This amazing young man did this each and every day. One day the principal stopped him and asked, " why do you encumber yourself with this? You need to enjoy being a boy and playing the sports you love". The boy responded, His welfare is my concern. He ain't heavy, he's my brother".
That was beautifully said Mel. This song always touches my heart. It reminds me of the Bible story about the Good Samaritan. A man found a man from another nation, on the road unconscious and near death. Beaten by robbers. Many people passed by him and could have offered help but refused to. The Samaritian man took the injured man to an inn and paid for someone to tend his wounds and visited him until he was well. The moral of the story was that all men are brothers. I always think of this when I hear that song. His voice is so pure.
I dedicated this song to my younger brother after our mother died. He was 13, I was 17. He died a year ago. Thank you for the memory.
You got it exactly. The love of our fellow humans. We’re all bros and sisters!
The Hollies were the closest any group ever got to the Beatles.
I can't hear this song without crying. Clarke's voice and the harmony is brilliant. Vietnam era..... video depicts troops carrying their brothers across the battlefield. Deep.
You nailed it. This love for all of our sisters and brothers. ❤️
I still get goosebumps hearing this song after all these years. This song was inspired of God and to bring unity and love to all of us. We should not know any person after the color of skin, politics, male or female, or class status because He created us all.
Love this group. The Hollies are a British pop rock group formed in 1962 & known for their great harmonies. They had so many great songs such as "Bus Stop", "Stop Stop Stop", "On A Carousel", "Carrie Anne", "Just One Look", "Here I Go Again", "Look Through Any Window", "King Midas In Reverse", "Jennifer Eccles", "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" etc. "Graham Nash" was originally in this group & left in 1968 to form "Crosby, Stills & Nash". Neil Diamond also had a hit with this song "He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother" in 1970.

You guys totally got this song. It is a beautiful song both musically and in meaning. Many other great Hollies songs. I believe you already reacted to "The Air That I Breathe." Also, "Bus Stop," "Carrie Anne," "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress." The lead singer is Allan Clarke and is one of the great, underrated singers in the game." For another song that echoes a similar message, you guys might try reacting to "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers. Love you two!
*You can't imagine how meaningful this song was to our young soldiers in Vietnam when it came out in 1969. Watching their friends become their brothers, then lose their lives and having to carry them off the battlefield. Imagine them hearing this on Armed Forces Radio while there!*

This band was named to honor the IMMORTAL Buddy Holly.
I tear up every time I hear this song. I think of my brother who I love so much. We are both in our mid-60's and except for 5 years we have always lived together. When he was young I looked out for him and now that we are older and I'm disabled he looks out for me.
This song is so great. The voice, WOW. It’s all about love and caring. Love it.
Thank you Mel, you totally caught the message. And the Road they're travelling is the road of life. we all have the same destination, so carry each other all you can.
I KNOW you're gonna love this one!
That's what I say. Go ahead and play the very best there is. And this is certainly one of them. Mel is spot on in her assessment. Today it might have to be changed to "You're Not Heavy, We All Are Family". Y'all are essential to the well-being of society, because you excavate these gems, like musical archaeologists, and react to them honestly, reminding people that there is goodness in this world. It's like Sly says: "We are family." Peace and love.
I was a camp counselor in the summer of 1987 for kids with special needs. this was the song played the last day right before we all went home. ❤️
this is a song from a time when people were trying to make the world a more beautiful place...!!!!!!
The title of this song was the slogan for the famous Boys Town Center(subject of a 1941 movie with Mickey Rooney) and charity for many years, and by the late 1960s(when this was recorded) was ubiquitous and almost universal. The charity advertised in many magazines and newspapers. The lyrics are timeless and appeal to everyone, but were hugely popular and appropriate to the public at the time, because of the US war in Vietnam. The song is still appropriate and moving, to this day. Since I was raised Catholic, I remember the Boys Town ads, and I bet a lot of other people remembered also, when they heard this. Thanks for posting this and reminding me; the Hollies were contemporaries of the Beatles and also a great band.
Great reaction as always to this absolute masterpiece. This really brought a smile to my face. Allan Clarke's voice is truly one of a kind.
Have loved this song since it first came out in 69. And it still gets to me. Loved the reaction and comments guys ❤
Such a classic 70’s era song that can be called an anthem for so many reasons - war, civil rights, women’s rights, it makes me cry when I hear this one. Used to sing along with my buddies back in the 70’s. Love & Peace ☮️🇨🇦😻

I lost my Brother 23 years ago and this song kicks me into memorys of him. Love you Bro and miss you every day till we meet again.
Always wanted to hear a version of this done by a full orchestra and a gospel choir. I think it would be beautiful.
God bless you both. You two are really "pulling out" the classics! Just like most of us, your eclectic taste in music covers all bases and ensures your generation and the generation to come understands that ALL music branches out but grows from one root....our soul.
Still remember the tv commercial back in the 80s were they played this while the older brother was visiting the younger one who was in there because of drug use. Powerful message and great song to use.
In these times I think everyone should hear this song. Show love instead of hate. God bless us all. 💗
This song was inspired by the movie "Boys Town". Do a little research, but there's a scene where one boy is carrying another boy with polio. When asked if he was hard to carry, he responded "He ain't heavy, he's my brother".
