One thing I forgot to mention is that lowering air pressure substantially can reduce your ground clearance minorly. However, in Subarus, most people will not typically be airing down enough to sacrifice much noticeable clearance. Learn more here: liftedimports.com/airing-down-subaru-tires-offroad/

I have had my tire deflating/inflating setup for a while, and it is a must-have just like recovery gear when wheeling. All I use is an ARB E-Z deflator (exact one in the video) and then a Smittybilt Battery Terminal Air Compressor. I replaced the analog gauge with a Jaco digital gauge (also had to get a Thor's lighting digital adapter) and replaced the bag with a cheap large tool bag from harbor freight. You don't even realize how impactful even just taking 10 psi out of your tires can be for comfort and capability until you try to skip that step.

Those smitty's are a GREAT bang for the buck compressor. My friend keeps one in his SAS Runner on 37's and it zips the tires right up. You're totally right. I'm really hoping more people will catch on to how much capability a small decrease in air pressure can be.

I thought airing down wouldn’t do much… then I tried it. Even dropping to 18-20 PSI from 30-33 makes your ride on rough roads so much smoother, and gives you some noticeable traction.

Biggest mistake folks make on their Subaru offroad builds is thinking taller/wider tires give you more capability. You'd be surprised of what you can do with OEM size tires by just airing down. Sadly, if you spent more money on wheels than you did on tires, you're doing it wrong. Also, fancy metal valve stems and extended lugs won't do you any favors as well.

You can definitely air down more aggressively and create a longer/wider patch with a taller tire. But it is unfortunate when people miss out on things that will make the most difference. I have ripped up rubber valve stems on the trail. Maybe I should get some metal ones😅

What's the lowest pressure you've run on OEM tires?

@@LiftedImports7 about 20 on fire service roads and down to 12 if crawling. I do run Toyo AT's with a taller aspect and have the dual range swapped transmission. Running Ironman lift springs, ADF 2.5" strut lift and 2" body lift with Toyota Taco high-angle inner CV boots.

@@slol144 that's typically what I run as well! Jealous of your dual range that's sick. You'll have to remind me what type of Subaru you have.
