This Overland Trip To Arizona Was a Disaster...

When it rains, it pours? It definitely poured at Overland Expo West, and that wasn't even the worst of my problems on this trip. The Jeep Gladiator broke down catastrophically TWICE on this 2 week trip. It was definitely an adventure.

A big thumbs up for Rob's wife putting up with the recovery all the while dealing with their baby. Good Job all around.

Absolutely epic. Most KZreadrs would have made a 4 part series out of this. The scale of your videos is constantly expanding. Really beautiful work Shaun.
I'm not an overland kinda guy, but I love the concept. This channel came out of nowhere the other day and I watched the Mackenzie Trail episode and now this one. Some fantastic content. Hope the hurt wasn't too painful on the bank account for the trans issue. Cheers.

Honestly, the fact that you have modified and wheeled the crap out of Trail Destroyer with little to no issues whatsoever is a miracle. I guess luck had to run out at some point. Unfortunate that it all happened at once though lol. Loved the video
i felt the moment when the other guy left you alone in the middle of the dessert for rest of the journey yes i see a man a husband a caring father and alone man who is working hard i was latterly crying when watching drone shots while you driving alone in that dessert for your work for your family, i hope you get millions of subscribers thank you for being there respect 😔 from the east side of the world
Awesome episode!! The struggles suck when you’re in the moment dealing with them but make for great stories!
Shawn, your cinematography is so on point. Great job! Lately I’ve been saving your videos to watch them on my projector. I literally feel like I’m there.
What a trip! Shows how it goes in real life. Been in many situation like this and I know that feeling too well 😂. But as always you really pushed it to extremes. So cool how it all worked out and the commmunity support.
Really cool video! Never fun having catastrophic issues, but goes to show the 4x4 community is incredible. Would love to get some new merch and help support the channel further!
Wow you really had a rough time! Like literally worst case scenario twice! Glad you have some good friends that were able to help you out.
Have to say, it's hard not to feel cursed after all that. Great on the community helping you out, and to White Rock Dodge for hooking you up with that truck and trailer.
As much as you do with that truck something is bound to happen. 😮 Never fun though. All in all this trip was a beautiful drive in the desert , not a disaster at all!!
Just wrapped up a trip like this myself. Fortunately, no trucks failed or were broken but just about everything else went wrong. Not every trip is sunshine and rainbows, but they do make for some great stories. Thanks for sharing Shaun
Wow, what an experience that must have been. I've got to hand it to Rob for demonstrating exactly how this community operates when something goes wrong. His family adapted to help in this situation, which I'm sure must have been difficult while traveling with a small child. Shaun, nicely done troubleshooting and problem solving both significant breakdowns. I was pretty shocked that in a couple of days, the trail destroyer was on its way to the next event. I'm sure by now you've got a resolution on the transmission issue. I'm looking forward to seeing the next video with that information. I'm sure EPIC will want to take a close look at the truck and AMW will likely want to get some feedback as well. Sincerely, what a flippin' awesome video.

Oh yeah, they went right past 4 Peaks into some grand vistas!
awesome video Shaun, your surrounded by not just ,great people willing to help out when your 2500 miles from home and you can't beat that and the staff at Summit 4x4 were outstanding, the 4x4 community is awesome, like a close knit family in its own way, and as usual the views were other worldly and the colours in that area were off the scale, cameras of all types are getting better every year, you'll have the trail destroyer back up and running before you know it, i am just surprised that stock Rubicon transfer case didn't blow up in you long ago, since you have double the horsepower and torque 👍
I watched it early on Patreon and it was an awesome video. I’m gonna watch it again at the Premier. You know it’s good when you can watch it twice in two days.
Love the longer videos. Such a good channel. 🤘🏼
I feel your pain. I recently broke down on the trail as well. Best of luck.
Welcome to Arizona! Yes, cacti are all over the place, and so are very venomous animals. Perhaps bring a local on the next trip? One of the tactics I am using to keep repairs to a minim is keeping the weight of my modifications and cargo to a minimum. I know we can't hope to avoid all trail damage, but I'm hoping that by keeping it light it will minimize the danger. Seeing great experiences like these videos give good things to think about.

Shoulda took the Tacoma out instead of the Jeep for the adventure so you wouldn't break down ;). What a mess 😮💨 Time like this is when true mates step up to help.Rob and Will are legends
Your repair went a lot quicker than mine. My 21 JLUR diesel needed a turbocharger assembly by the time I got to Flagstaff. The turbo control valve was bad. There are two ways to replace the turbo, pull the engine or pull the body. Jeep paid for the body pull method. I however paid for the extra time spent disassembling my overland gear and putting it back. Three weeks after Expo West I was on my way back to North Carolina. Not my best adventure but probably the most memorable.
Crazy story, one for the books! I love AZ❤ I’ve had the fortune to follow the first trail you were on. Very scenic! Love the videos!
Awesome video as always TSTN.
I’m sorry that that happened to you Shawn hopefully the next adventure will be better

cast iron f100 transfer,,400 hp. no probs.. or,,buy an f100 4x4..they work,,dont break,,like jeeps..
thats a fun trail to drive. glad you guys made a video of it. been driving it for years
This is why after 30 years of overlanding ultimately all the jeeps I have owned have remained stock except for tires. You buy a Jeep designed by engineers to run 32 inch tires and you want to run 37-44 inch tires.....I don't care what mods you run to support those tire sizes, you have compromised the reliability of your vehicle. After 30 plus years of overlanding I have never been broken down/stuck because of a catastrophic failure. I would like to think it's because I kept my jeeps as close to the manufacturers original intention.
@Hephaestusthejeep

That's pretty much why I'm stopping at 35s on mine. Just tall enough to do everything I need but no so big it causes severe damage. Also I'm running the dana 30/44 combo so that changes things.

Great dudes out there and im glad yall stayed safe! I could be wrong but if you did not have the skidplates that you did, things may have ended alot worse with that driveshaft being aboe to contact the ground at that higher speed, thank god for those!

Great video, good job making the best of things. One of the spots by the grand canyon that you ended up at looks like the spot where Thelma and Louise (a movie) drove their car off the cliff.
Incredible work once again. Jeep should really consider hiring you as their marketing director.
I WORKED A NIGHT SHIFT. DRANK EXTRA STRENGTH MONSTER last night. Can’t sleep. I’m living in Phoenix right now. I did live in Flagstaff AZ for a year. I know where Prescott is. IM GLAD YOU KEPT FILMING! And even went on by yourself! I hope the baby was ok! LOVE ALL YOUR ADVENTURES. But I especially enjoyed this video, as well! Thank you!
O Shaun, the first time we took our truck camper from Melbourne, Victoria to Brisbane, Queensland we had major problems. We could not understand why the truck kept on wanting to lift. It turned out truck did not have the right springs for the weight of the truck camper. We had to buy a brand new truck and get all the upgrades done. I was so pissed off at the time, but it did not stop our overlanding adventures around Australia, just money. Love Rolanda
The Story Till Now is always good! We Get Things Done would suit just as well! Keep well, best wishes from England as always! 👍☺
Awesome to have friends to have your back. High anxiety when your traveling and "boom" something goes south. Good luck out there. The lizard sounds like a Gila monster, they are poison nasty bite. Gave you a sub man. Looked like an Awesome trip even with the problems.
Damn man salute to you for keeping at it ✊🏿

I don't know how you kept together! If it would of been me.... Bleeps would be all over the video!! Hope everything works out!
Sorry again for waking you up in the middle of night 😢😂 it was nice meeting you at overland expo. The guy that makes those kegerators was my neighbor at the campground at expo. My friend and we camped at the overlook the night I drove past you.
Wow what a hectic trip. I'm thinking that 600 horses is the cause of your problem. Love your channel mate
It wasn't a disaster. A trip that doesn't go as planned isn't comfortable, but that's what makes it an adventure. Beware moving to low lands (by the river) to avoid a desert storm. A flash flood can come without warning.
Rough trip Shawn. Glad you had the help you did. So any ideas as to what caused the original failure?
