Just sharing my experience with catch cans on these cars. The catch can needs to be on the driver side. At one point i had both jlt catch cans one on passenger side one on driver side. After 5000 miles passenger catch can was still bone dry and driver side had oil.

I think it makes since for anyone that plans on keeping a cobra long term! It just saves the engine from getting gunked up which would cause the valves to bake over the years. Was a contributing factor as to why I think I lost my last motor!

Did I get in first today? Happy holidays Jordan, I wish you and your family the best! The series focus st I have has a problem of blowing oil into the intake which eventually settles in the charges pipes. The “first mod” I did was a crank case breather and I have a catch can on order! It seems like a small thing but I’m glad you (and I) figured it out

Yes, you did! Those breathers can be tricky because it's basically a vacuum leak which can throw off the idle and air-fuel ratio. But if it works then it works! Wouldn't work for me with the cam haha the slightest vacuum leak and it destroys my idle.

@@Jordancraigmiller the breather I got is from CFM and has a check ball in the valve so under vacuum (load) the ball is auctioned shut. You can also replace that passenger side hose with a simple breather(K&N makes a nice one) and plug up the valve on the intake tube. I did that on my Cobra and installed a jlt pcv prefilter over the valve on my driver side...works just fine! Only differences are that you have to clean or replace that breather periodically and the cost is way less than a catch can system.

  • @Jordancraigmiller

Those breathers don’t work very well at all with Cammed cobras. Going to get a JLT 3.0 for that side as well once it’s in stock! If it’s the little one I’m thinking if you’re basically creating a vacuum leak.

  • @tomkjr1

@@Jordancraigmiller Been running for 5 years without any issues. Venting the crank case is not a vacuum leak. Many cobra owners including track cars run the same setup. In fact many use 2 breathers. I also have a stop valve on my breather which operates just like a pcv valve. Pressure blows out but no intake. This system can save a lot of blown gaskets caused by excessive internal engine pressure.

@@Jordancraigmiller Obviously both types work since so many use both. Which is better? who knows, maybe neither. Both my Terminators have been modified cars. Not extremely, only into the 600+whp and I've never had an issue with the breathers. If you are bone stock and worried about emissions and passing inspection, then keeping a closed system with catch cans would be the way to go. Since I don't have to worry about that, I like to keep it simple and pretty without too many hoses. I also enjoy the peace of mind in knowing that nothing unwanted could get into my intake tube because the hose is gone!
