Hell, even the channel @Cynical Reviews for hit with a personal Email from the director herself, how one person could be so childish and immature baffles me, over people criticizing her movie...just, why, lol? I mean Trin is 17 years old I believe, she's just a kid who is an amazing and hilarious KZreadr & she's honest, only uses up to 10 mins total from whatever movie or show she's reviewing, (which is under fair use), yet she gets hated on and mistreated by a grown woman...where in the world did this director get off thinking that this was ok, she is extremely unprofessional, I mean, if she can't take a little criticism on a movie that is...literally terrible, in every way, then she shouldn't be in this business, lol. 😅

I love how the director is claiming that people who don't like the movie don't understand satire. Just because your movie is satirical doesn't mean it can't also be bad. This movie is poorly done satire and people are allowed to criticize it.

Daniel Amade Satire is meant to take the aspects of something it wants to make fun of, and blow them so out of proportion it’s clear the subject matter is being mocked. If satire is done poorly, then what happens is it plays to the beats it intends to mock with complete sincerity, as far as the audience can tell. At that point, if it does the exact same things as its subject matter and isn’t clear about mocking it whatsoever, does it not then become exactly what it set out to mock?

You'd be surprised how many beggars there are out there, and that's the actual problem. Where's the "learn that no means no and don't test your luck at the expense of another person's time and resources" movie, I ask? The writer-director doesn't seem to realize that there's actually plenty of women who do want to sell their bodies or images of them. In my opinion, the best message fit for such a movie would be "don't harass girls who aren't into you, paying for a private session is a transaction and not a farmer's market so don't try to negotiate a price that isn't specifically listed for negotiation, don't ask anyone for free stuff (male or female), only continue outside interaction if the girls are the ones who contact you." An app that is for hookups only would greatly benefit sex workers and cam girls.

It's clearly the *director* who doesn't understand what satire is, or what sexism is for that matter. Claiming that women don't benefit from hookup culture pretty obviously *is* sexist. They're arguing in the movie that women are all these sensitive angels who would never ever enjoy a hookup and only want commitment out of a relationship, and that's a form of sexism, just like claiming men are all strong and brave warriors is a form of sexism. They try to turn it around as "aha, but *The Culture™* says all women benefit from hookup apps!!!" but... When did anyone say that? Hookup apps just exist as an option for men and women who want to engage in that, and the idea that it's negative for women is pretty firmly rooted in a negative (and sexist) perception of sex as men using women. The director even uses a sofa metaphor which reminds me of disturbing descriptions of non-virgin women as "used, chewed-up pieces of gum". So yeah, this director seriously needs to buy a mirror and start looking in it. Or at the very least throw out their projector.

Like, I wanna get to know a person first and be able to trust them before giving them something as personal as my own body. If other women don't mind hooking up with people they don't know much about, then all the power to them, but I don't feel comfortable doing that kind of thing.

There's also people who make something bad thinking it's good then when people point out how bad it is they try to say "It was meant to be bad." Tommy Wiseau was convinced The Room was a serious drama then when everybody laughed at how bad it was he lied that he'd always meant it to be a comedy even though he clearly didn't.

Even with that in mind, even with a tiny voice in the back of my head saying that these comments were just mean, I was still able to see them as criticism, listen to them, and improve based on them. It baffles me that people with higher platforms can sit atop their ill-deserved pedestals and guise what is essentially the reaction of a cornered wild animal as either legal concern or a delusion that they're actually the "right" party. I mean, why can't people just say they're offended? "I worked hard on this movie(I mean, they didn't, but they can at least just say that to start with), and I'm deeply offended that you didn't like it" (Not that one should be offended over someone's opinion, but if you're going to say anything, it might as well be the truth.) It's just sad that these people who wait around for people to say mean things about their failure and then slander *those* people are paid anything, let alone given that platform to influence younger viewers to begin with. The number one rule for coming into that; let's say "power", and remaining likable is to be humble. This writer/director just comes off as, uh... Well, I don't like them.

"Did you perhaps not understand the message" is SUCH a stupid point to make when somebody dislikes a work of fiction. I personally think that the best, most enjoyable and smartest way to make a satirical work or just anything with an important message is to weave it into a central story that can be enjoyed on it's own, without even getting into the deeper meanings. If your story is a terrible clusterfuck when the underlying themes aren't being analysed then it can't be that good a story.

Well, no, sorry to break it to you folks but, that's why you have editors and first drafts, these drafts are subjective art too but you're making them better day by day until you're happy with the polished final product. Most of the shit you see that makes it to the leaderboards started off as something completely different. An okay idea and a shabby performance may be art, but that doesn't make them any less subpar to what a better writer and better actors would've done with these.

I think it's worth noting that the proclaimed feminist filmmaker went harder after a teenage girl than she did the male creators who had the same opinion and method of expression. Just some food for thought even if I'm late to the party.

This is why I use screencaps on my reviews. I rarely use videos unless it's absolutely necessary A bad review isn't copyright infringement. That director is horrid

Yes, homeless just means you can't afford housing. It doesn't mean you're literally penniless. Also plenty of homeless people already had smartphones from before they lived on the streets. Even if they don't, you can get cheap/second-hand ones.

Yeah I remember seeing a documentary featuring homeless folks trying to sneak wifi from cafes with their smart phones. You can get a smart phone off kijiji these days for $10-$20 tbh, but getting a phone connection on the other hand can be pricey.

When you want to be in the public sphere, but can't take criticism and backlash from the public... it's time for a new profession. It's almost as if you can't have a difference of opinion anymore.

I'd say the worst directors are the ones who use an actor's gender, sexuality, race or whatever to call people prejudiced for disliking the film. People who dislike the Star Wars sequel trilogy are called sexist for not liking Rey and accused of only hating her because she's a woman even though she's hated for having no personality or character not being a woman.
