I do have to say, knowing how the U.S. is at least, if there was some weird chemical coming from the trees and killing people for destroying the environment, there would soon be no trees and a far worse environment. The sad truth is that humanity isn't gonna let something else one-up it by killing everyone, it's gonna have some major part in killing itself off.

​@@milowolfface9392 It's for a better enviroment for us to live in. Ever heard of landslides due to the rain? Let's say there's a highway right beside an inclined terrain with little to no trees. If the heavy rain hits, it will cause the muddy soil to slide down onto the road and drag stuff with it, like rocks or single trees that couldn't hold it down by themselves, risking accidents and traffic jams. More trees on that terrain can reduce the risks of those accidents happening, as their roots would absorb part of the water and help holding down the soil in place. Trees increase the soil's ability to absorb and retain water, produce nutrients for plants, maintain high levels of organic matter in the soil, and moderate soil temperatures. Ever noticed how the air seems better when you're around groups of trees? They act as "livers", filtering atmospheric pollutants through their leaves, releasing oxygen in exchange. Trees also act as noise barriers and reduce noise pollution through the damping of sound. The lack of trees is also the reason many species are endangered, for trees were either their homes or held their home together. You should watch 'The Lorax', that movie explains it really well on how the trees can affect our lives. It's an adaptation of a book by Dr. Seuss.

@@milowolfface9392 I think they are replanting very young trees. When you grow a plant from a seed and know you will replant it, you can sprout the seeds very close together using very little space because the roots don't reach that far yet (a tree, in particular, is about as big underground as above ground). However, if you don't replant your seedlings as they grow, they may quickly become rootbound and unhealthy and many will not survive. So they are starting them in nurseries and then replanting them in places where they can grow to maturity.

@@milowolfface9392 I’m a year late but trees turn carbon into oxygen, which decreases a fuck ton of the carbon emissions that come from cars, factories, etc. The carbon emissions are a large contributing factor to global warming. Their goal of planting 20 million trees (which was accomplished) will absorb around 1.6 million tons of carbon, which is equal to getting rid of 1.24 million cars every single year. It doesn’t save the environment but it is a huge step forward. Additionally, more trees means there’s more habitats for wildlife and plants to grow and thrive, which is also better for the ecosystem. Hope this helped clear things up a bit :)

This movie falls under the horror subgenre 'films with genuinely interesting, scary, or provocative premises, but abysmal execution' Which is probably why the horror genre (which I love btw) is rarely taken seriously

Not his fault though, the script / dialogues really limit the character, making it so that it can only be played as a goof. There is video of Mark on the sets of the movie trying to convince M Night to change the stupid dialogues, saying that it doesn't make sense. But M Night and this other executive are like - "Nope, we know what we are doing". I think Mark was painfully aware just how bad the script was.

Watching this video for the first time in 2021 and hearing Amanda's mini-rant that no one wore a mask in the movie, despite knowing that there was an airborne threat is surreal, considering what we're going through now.

I love this movie, it's just so perfectly terrible. The actors even seem to be mailing it in, realizing they signed on to a true turd of a film. I watch this movie about once a year because it is so damn awful that it inspires me to keep writing. If this crap can get made into a movie (or Waterworld) then I have a chance! The town of Filbert needs a custom license plate "Filbert is a Happening place!"

....I love Waterworld. Not even in a 'bad movie' sort of way. I legit love the shit out of that movie. I thought the world building (though bare bones) was pretty good, and just kinda enjoyed the oddness of the whole thing. I think The Fifth Element and Waterworld are two of my 'weird' favorites.

When the pandemic first started, the government wasn’t sure if the hospitals had enough masks, so they were recommending that we don’t buy masks and save them for the people who needed them most. But now that we know that hospitals have enough masks, there’s no reason not to buy them.

Maybe instead of "B" movie, he meant "Bee" movie.

10 years later one of the one of the guys who Wrote/Directed the Crank movies did a much, much better job with this basic concept of a sudden mass wave of unexpected and inexplicable violence (even though HIS movie had problems of its own) called "Mom & Dad". It was actually scary at times, actually funny at times, the performances were wonderfully over-the-top rather than stilted, and had literally 1/15th the budget! (yes, $4M made a fun, high-energy bad movie while $60M made this utter embarrassment)

Do you know how great it would’ve been if the town they filmed in had a sign that just said “The Happening happened here” “Why does no one have a mask” aged like fine wine

Twist. This is a prequel to bird box and theres a jeepers creepers style divine being that comes when man kind needs a cleansing

I just wanna know how some of this was directed! Like, especially Mark Wahlberg, that voice he keeps doing, that's the voice he always does when even his character knows whatever he's saying is bullsh*t but he doesn't care, or he's being sarcastic with intent to p*ss the other person off! How do you direct somebody so poorly that you get THAT for an ENTIRE PERFORMANCE???

You should just continue with the marky mark movies and do a video about his movie Fear. No one ever talks about it and it’s actually a pretty intense movie.

I would be way more concerned if people actually were falling over dead every two seconds because of covid, but its mortality rate is low asf. I'm just a little worried about what sort of trees they plant. Some are cheaper than others, and also invasive. Are they careful about which trees get planted where?

I just checked up on this and it actually happened (pun intended), they got to 20 million trees!

I remember watching this with the family when I was a kid. We were all shocked on the opening scene, I think it traumatized me lol It still is the most memorable scene of all the movies that I watched! And that's the only scene I remembered from this movie 😂

I love how Mark Wahlberg will always just be Marky Mark to the world.

This is definitely something I'd save for Bad Movie Night with friends. I wouldn't be able to finish it solo cuz once John Leguizamo's character gets killed, I'd be all like, "Welp, my favorite actor in this movie just exited stage-right. Now I am sad." And I'd just shut it off. (Yeah, I know his performance is just as drained & deadpan as everybody else. I just like him, okay?) I'd need friends for back-up riffing of the rest of this disasterpiece.

My cousin and I watched this movie back-to-back with "Ferngully" back when this movie came out on DVD, so we pretty much decided that "The Happening" was Hexxus' origin story.

A level of green screen that puts Neil Breen to shame? They ought to put that pull quote on the Blu-ray release if it happens, properly attributed of course.

I'm mildly perplexed by the idea that in the US you can just walk into random gas stations or hardware stores and buy a gas mask. Used ones from an army surplus store, maybe. But that's really the sort of thing you'd have to order online. Like... from a survivalist KZread store... like Canadian Prepper. Meh. I like the movie. And I like all of M Night's other movies (that I've seen) as well, especially The Village. It's no Day of the Triffids, I'll grant you, but then what is? Hmm... now I want to watch Day of the Triffids again.

I once tried to watch this movie with my older cousin back when it got released and had freaking nightmares. It took me years to finally watch it and I'm still very uncomfortable with people offing themselves

This film really is like Birdemic but with plants rather than exploding gif birds.

To this day I love the village. No world where I would call it a horror movie or anything but it will always have a special place in my heart

Just started the video but came here to say that I really like The Happening as a kind of horror-comedy. Scenes like that far away shot of the guy laying down in front of the thresher thing is genuinely horrifying to me, and then almost everything that Markie Mark says is (unintentionally or otherwise) hilarious to me. I still quote, "What? No!" all the time.

The way Zooey Deschanel say "tiramisu" made me cringe

lol The Happening was horrifying! Well, the writing was. I saw Split recently by Shyamalan and I liked the movie for the first half, then there were some weird choices he made, but it was the very end that made me not like it. Things like the girl staring at the screen for like 500,000 minutes... it was weird and ruined everything because of how awkward it was. So Shyamalan can take a movie someone is enjoying and somehow make them not like it. It's a real talent.

So now that it's conclusively proven that masks did nothing, how do you feel about your mask fascism in hindsight? Do you still feel good about LARPing as a Nazi for 2-and-a-half years? Are you still proud of yourself? You provably made the world a worse place. You caused real harm, and you hurt innocent people. You should be ashamed.
