This Modular Tabletop Miniature Terrain is Epic!
Ғылым және технология
Every time we visit the studio of Weta Workshop sculptor Johnny Fraser-Allen, he blows our minds with his newest tabletop miniature builds. In this most recent visit, Johnny shows Adam the follow up to his Hagglethorn Hollow city: a dense wilderness scratch built with modular buildings, trees, and hand crafted terrain. Johnny invites Adam to help dress this miniature fantasy world, the components of which were just made available in a new Printable Scenery campaign!
Johnny's hand-sculpted dragon castle in this video is available for 3D printing as part of his current 'Gloaming Swamps and Wilderness' campaign on Kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

Amazing video Adam. I bought the Hagglethorn Hollow stl's and have used the watch tower, vegetable patches and lovers pool printed at 75% on an OO Gauge model railway. The pieces are fantastic. Good luck Johnny.

GLORIOUS. Mad props for The Storyteller shout out. 'And for the first time in years... centuries. Hope fires the Ferryman.'
Oh my friggin goodness! Love, love, love how that piece came together to form a dragon! Each are fantastic on their own , but together - just stunning! Love the whole video. It's great when a world builder builds for aesthetics and line of sight gameplay. This is magnificent!
these two people are both at work right now, what a time to be alive

It’s refreshing to find artists and creators that’s don’t “gate keep” techniques. I’ve also realized that a vast majority of the DnD enthusiasts are extremely welcoming. I don’t personally embark on campaigns, but I happily make minis and landscapes for my close friends

Agreed! He's so talented, I want that entire table! It was also neat to realize that there are other people who sometimes get lost admiring the scenery of a video game as much, if not more so, than gameplay.
this was always my favorite part on Mr. Rogers, when he would get the buildings/toys out and line them up on the table :)
Best artists in the world working at Weta.
So glad to hear someone else mention 'Storyteller' - Luck Child. Great series, beloved in my home.
I NEED THIS! Waw, what a talented man. That tickled my brain in many different ways.
This is proof that passion is prerequisite to greatness
Especially when there is a little passion involved, again, wow!

Man, that dragon temple is SO cool!
What is it about us Kiwis and our passion for making awesome stuff? We are surrounded by all this natural beauty every day... oh... yeah, that's actually it. We live in a mystical set of islands at the world's far end where magic is real. It's all true.
Seeing that dragon temple come together was so cool! What amazing pieces of art
How clever are people/artists, wow!
That dragon is awesome!
Can i just say.. I looove how enthusiastic this guy is, he's like a kid showing dad the drawings they made, and i am here for it. so good to see someone who just fucking loooves what they're doing
I want that dragon temple just to stick on a shelf and look cool.
Just amazing, and I love the Johnny's enthusiasm.
The rising energy in this video..... it really feels like they completely forgot they were making a video
The first video adam did at weta about 3 and a half years ago was the video that got me into the hobby and then got me into dnd!! I’m so excited that this project is still going on and i can’t express my gratitude for how much i’m grateful for stumbling across the original video❤
That set up is insane !
As a fan of Warhammer and a Kiwi, first the obligatory "ouch my wallet". I am stoked to see someone not only making high quality miniature environments, but also made for a range of systems, well still being crafted with easy of use in mind. Incredible work.
Two people I would love to have as friends.
Phenomenal! Amazing! Jaw Dropping! Stupendous! Wow! The Model Railroad club will never be the same again!
I love how Hoggle is just in the back watching over everything.

I remember this first video!! So good.
I don't play any of these kinds of games, but I still love this stuff!!
I adore this guys stuff, can Adam just move to NZ and do a show with him every week?
I adore Johnny, his enthusiasm is infectious. It's like a kid pulling things out of his toy box and showing you what he made at school all rolled together. The mastery he shows is just unmatched. Having both really characterful and organic looking sculpture but still being seamlessly modular without looking repetitious is supremely non-trivial. 11:54 Ive referenced a lot of Tested for techniques in my hobby modeling but Adam discovering the joy of table top game in real time is just the icing on the whole thing 16:25 I'm going to have to find those now.

I loved when things got real quiet and both of them were just meticulously and lovingly arranging moss and such...it was very peaceful to watch and still engaging. Overall such a fun video! And Johnny's work is just magnificent!
Stunning. Just stunning. The reveal of the dragon… wow.
Def the best designed miniature buildings out there. I feel a lot of sculptors who make buildings for tabletop (3D STLs in particular) forget that buildings need character too. THESE buildings have character! Cant' wait till I get some myself.

I'm just gonna say it - I think Adam would love Warhammer (either AoS or 40K). Even if he doesn't go for the gameplay, the assembly and cosmetics of models and terrain would be right up his alley.
I’m a simple man. I see Adam and Johnny and a bunch of miniatures, I click.
Dude. I see videos like this, and wish I could just play one session with this guy.
well, this is gorgeous
I love these collabs
One of the best gaming experiences I have EVER had to explore the world. The Discovery Tours on Assassins creed which are also being used in universities etc now.
Adam using a god mode just to get a good look around is hysterical!
Beautiful landscape and then the black based mini's gets added, and it immediately takes out my immersion. Base your mini's people :D
Building that set together reminds me when I and my peers would get together in the backyard with an assortment of Matchbox cars, rocks, sand, bits of driftwood and basically destroy mom's loquat tree landscaped area making underground garages, houses, and roads. Good times.
Blown away, seem to be very sturdy!
Imagine this being your job....amazing life
Fuck yeah I love all the videos with Johnny. The miniatures he creates are just amazing, playing a tabletop game with them would be so fun.

As a gamer I can tell you now that table would be a nightmare to play on. Yeah it looks stunning but wargaming tables need to be relatively flat to be able to get the models to actually stand up. You would spend half the time trying to your models to not fall over and this would be even worse for games that need the models to be ranked up like classic Warhammer or Kings of War or historical games like Hail Caesar or Napoleonics. It would work as a skirmish table but anything more than that it is completely impractical.

Stunning.
Like the old days products where people had time to think about it and use it. Smacks of quality. I also love the idea that a tiny garden gnome for us, is a giant in a whole tiny universe. Awesome. Thanks for highlighting.
The problem with this is that I don't just want to play over the top of it, I want to walk around this terrain, especially the dragon!
We need Adam to do a battle report on some tabletop war gaming!! I just love the exciment Adam has on these kind of things!
The Hoggle from the Labyrinth is amazing
Professional as always. 👍
Walking around a computer game level just for the sake of walking around because the level design is gorgeous, that's so relatable :D
